    protip, you can use a dremel with a very small bit on it to recreate the perforation holes

    tip for next time: lightly sand the seat at the cracks and after filler lightly sand again... gives way better results and isnt like a sanding paper feel after the color cures

    Nicely done. How did the repairs hold up?

    @averagedad - thanks for this honest video! I wonder if the results would have been better if you sanded the crack filler after spreading it for a smoother look. Not bad for $50 and two hours though!

    how long did it take for the car doctor stuff to dry? Looks like you didnt really use the 3m stuff.

    • @AverageDadChannel
      @AverageDadChannel  10 месяцев назад +3

      Used the car doctor stuff the most but the 3M stuff has held up better over time
      Car doc stuff probably took an 15min to dry using the heat gun some

      You had to clean the cracks from grease and body oil before applying the car doctor crack filler. That's why it's not lasting as long

      Hey Brooke, cleaning it holds up well. Wear and tear it deteriorated some over 6 months but I was able to quickly touch it up again. May make a short following up soon

    I went thru that last year. EVERY car expert talked to told me that the worn area nearest the driver's door is very, very common. I first tried the 3M kit on small area - (for me) was crap. So got better products for 'filler' and exact color from audi. It took some time, but still looks like there was never a problem about 18 months later. How is yours now that a year gone by?

    • @AverageDadChannel
      @AverageDadChannel  2 месяца назад +1

      What product did you get for filler? I don’t have the car anymore but I needed to retouch the area around months, so an improvement but by no means perfect

    • @AverageDadChannel
      @AverageDadChannel  3 месяца назад

      It lasted a few months, I think this would be much better done on a non-perforated seat

    How has it held up after a year?

    • @AverageDadChannel
      @AverageDadChannel  5 месяцев назад

      Hey Ted, sold the car a bit ago but the crack filler did not hold up great, the adhesive filler with the seat doctors dye looked decent still.
      By no means a professional repair but I’d still recommend it as a good bang for buck visual improvement. ESPECIALLY if the seat is not perforated (would probably work better for longer)

    Why didn't you just use something larger for making the hole, or just create the holes while the stuff was still wet?

      As an upholsterer, I would say, not long. And customers ask if I think this is a good idea. Answer: No. Forget the shortcuts, save up the money to have it done right.
