Just an average dad making mediocre videos about house/dad stuff.
If you are inspired or entertained, please considering subscribing. I know people saying that is super annoying but it is a big help to the channel and helps me justify the time I put into this. By all means though, don't make a rash decision.

Hidden Door from an Existing Door: DIY
In this video I take a standard interior door and make it disappear into a slat accent wall. I've seen some other impressive videos of people hiding doors this way, including the one that inspired me to do this project by @DesignCraftWorkshop (linked below). In his video though he custom makes both the door AND door frame, all with some fancy green and black tools, so I set out to find a way to achieve a similar result with far less skill (and if you thought I was referencing Ryobi tools, that’s very cute, you’re the target audience for this video)

One of my coolest builds. [@DudeDad Winner]

Check out the DIY mini golf hole I built for the 2024 Dude Dad Mini Golf Open (yes that's a real thing). The event was held at New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, CO, with proceeds from playing the holes going to RespiteCare. Based on the free computer game Space Cadet, the hole features interactive pinball mechanics that give the player a chance at a birdie or hole-in-one. It was a lot of wor...

Ultimate DIY Cat ‘Tree’
Просмотров 39 тыс.Год назад
When was the last time you saw someone's cat tree and thought "wow, what a nice piece of furniture". In this video I try to change that by building a cat tree/tower (potato/potatoe) out of one large driftwood piece. I made some mistakes along the way and discovered what electric scissors were. DIY Faux Boxwood Wall

Checkout how I transform a wall in our nursery from plain-jane to trendy plant accent wall with just a couple hours and a staple gun. To accomplish this I’ll use faux boxwood panels off marketplace and Amazon. This is a pretty easy project and relatively affordable project as far as accent walls go, I'd recommend it Affiliate Links: Boxwood Panel Option A - amzn.to/3OBEWj2 Boxwood Panel Option ...
DIY Car Rust Repair (no experience)
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
In this video I'll fix a rust spot on my old Audi S4 using a kit from 3M and paint from TouchUpDirect. There are definitely some things I could've done better, or will do different next time, but overall it turned out pretty good for having zero bodywork experience. Lesson learned- don’t be afraid to go out and try something new! Affiliate Links: Rust spot kit: amzn.to/43yacU3
Easy Backyard Steps Improvement

In this video I'll redo our old worn-out backyard steps that lead down to our patio by changing out the wood treads for composite boards, and the wood balusters for flat aluminum ones. I'll also fill in some of the cracks where the wood is deteriorating with Bondo wood filler. Awesome job.
Love this idea! I am just having a house renovated now and I am saving this video for a creative idea! Gorgeous
Well done sir! Might have to give it a try.
Great job 👏🏼
You're a wiener for trying to fool someone into buying that. You could have just used rough pine and stained it. It's cheaper than the foam, and much less work. Thumbs down for being just another douche who hides amongst the rest of us. At least now we know what you look like.
Eye Protection !!
love it..
Thanks Dee
Great video, thanks for taking the time.....
Thanks mom
best DIY video! you have to be scrappy otherwise its not DIY :D
Thank u
I was just pricing foam beams and they are stupid expensive. You did an excellent job, and I am a woodworker and carpenter. Fantastic!
Thanks Jerry!
If I cover the fireplace and outside vent the cold air is coming out from the outlet? The air still is in between the walls?
Thanks. We want to do things to hide the joint in our modular home to maken it look site built
Part number?
Let's do it half past buy some wooden do it right put some nice rough song come on typical kind of house you go in when you're looking to buy a house in the game goes oh I got beam ceilings here made out of Styrofoam old boy those are real fake and ugly that is
3M Super 77 spray adhesive, 3:15. Gorilla glue construction adhesive, 5:36.
Where did you get your hinges and templates? Great system!
Thanks, see the video description for parts details
Yes, I saw the parts list but there was no link for your hinge template.
What state are you in and are you available for hire?
😆 unfortunately not
gotta admit.... your narration was pretty darn funny!!! [Greg, Garden Grove, CA usa]
I think these turned out amazing! Great job! One observation (don’t mean to be a critic) but maybe to make the add on pieces at the end a little less obvious, maybe you could have glued the extra length to the end before adding the joint compound and faux wood grain and then staining it all at once. That way the grain lines wouldn’t get disrupted by the joint compound and the stain would be more consistently applied. Yours really did turn out amazing!
the carpet is for a reason.. but yeah, spending 40 hours using drift wood taken from a waterfront, which is illegal in a lot of cities, is another option
👍 Great video - I’m just about to start almost the exact type of project so it answered a few questions I’ve been wondering about. I’d love to get ahold of those hinge templates files.
Hey Greg, shoot me an email (listed on the About tab of the channel)
"I dont really like the cat anyways" Yeah I used to say that about my sweetheart when she was young and rebellious, then when she passed it felt like I lost a daughter of college age.
This is to date, the best hidden door video on YT I've seen.
Thanks C, pinned.
I thought this was a great video. I never had the inclination to install such beams but I always thought in the back of my head when I've seen them that they sold something similar somewhere already prefabed and finished ready to hang.
thanks FT
Heck yeah ! Looks awesome!
If you look real close at most coffee shops and places like restaurants that are new buildings you may notice that they do not have brick or solid finishes on the exterior. Instead they are using foamboard that have a skim coat of colored spackling applied to them. If you ping a lit cigarette at it, it'll melt right in. Being a millworker/ woodworker contractor for a lot of years, we've done many faux beams and columns and sills, etc. I cannot judge this work because I don't trust pictures of work. (even though they say a picture tells a thousand words). If I see things up close in real life with my own eyes and not in a picture or video, then I can see the truth, but that's just my eye and professionalism. I like your creativity and I think you are talented. It does look good, from here, but I'd be concerned on how easily it can be damaged, and for me that's warranty work. (we like to build things durable that'll last for years). What if the next guy wants to paint it and bumps it, damaging the fragile product. Man would they be upset. Still, It caught my eye. So props for that. But now I have to go out and get a burrito because you made me hungry. Good Job! Great video!!
Thanks Phil Ya we'll see how they last, and will have to warn the next owner not to hang things from them
Awesome work! I love Larry David! He’s pretty, pretty, pretty good!
Thanks!
🎉looks great But what does it look like with the door opened? I have a corner of my bedroom that has three doors and would LOVE to the final look you got
check out the YT short on my channel and you can see me walk through it
Amazing execution. I have to assume you are somewhat artistic or do some sort of artist work for employment? The knots and grain look amazing
Unfortunately not, thanks for the compliment though!
Yuck
Appreciate the feedback
@AverageDadChannel using marker to emulate the holes was a bad idea. Why not find a drill bit the correct size?
Nice. I would have removed the return vent cover…painted the inside and run the slats right over it. Good work.
Ya this would’ve been a good idea, thought about putting black mesh over it and having the slats go down through it like you said, but it’s covered up by furniture for our setup so decided against the extra effort
@ Very nice work
The fire pit is too large, or the fire too small- this is why it is not smokeless.
Love it…would like to do the same thing at my home. Thank you for making the video!
You're welcome, good luck!
you probably spend more on materials than you would have on a couple years worth of electricity from that draft.
Had most of it leftover from other projects but otherwise you may be right, but also our room was very asymmetrically cold near the fireplace so this helps a lot with that
This is great!! I’m currently in the middle of the exact same project. I’ve been avoiding the hinge installation because I’m terrified I’m going to mess up the door. I 3D printed spacers to keep the boards level, but never thought to print up a router guide for the hinge alignment. Such a good idea!
Thanks, good luck on the hinges!
From a distance it looks perfect and impressive, well done! I’d probably have incorporated a skirting board with hidden up lighting and mirrored the same up to the ceiling. Those dark gaps are excellent for hiding led strips. Lighting will transform it into another dimension. Well, you did ask. 😂 🏴😇
Thanks! Yes have seen some really cool lit walls, maybe I’ll add that one day
Done that 30 years ago.
Doubt it
Awesome video man. Very creative!
Thanks for watching!
What is the purpose of the light switch innthe middle of the wall? Did you think about flipping it around so it is used from the opposite side and you dont interrupt the slat side?
Light switch was existing and I didn’t want to go to the trouble of relocating it on another wall
@AverageDadChannel oh, I meant the other side of the same wall so it's in the other room. But I don't know what it does. Thanks for response all the same.

Looks great! I have seen a few of these walls and am always curious how much of a pain they are to dust/clean long term.
We shall see, not thinking about that right now 😆
Thank you for sharing all your tips and mistakes!!!!! 👏🫶❤
Thanks for watching
Great job! It looks good! I can not imagine holding real wood beams over my head!
So essentially just use crack filler and then paint over it
Bro has the same exact garbage disposal but it was much more dirty🤔🤔
sir this is a Wendy's
Did you show which paint color you used?
I am a finish trim carpenter, and have built faux beams of various complexity for my GC's clients and I can assure you that they pay (him, not me) a lot more than a few hundred dollars for a whole room! I watched this because I like seeing creative and frugal solutions. It's very impressive for a DIY homeowner! I'm about to build a few beams for my own house, and I'm not sure if I will do this myself, mostly to avoid the ridicule and shaming when my boss comes over to see the finished house that I've been working on for almost two years! Clever idea! 😎
very nice idea and workmanship. However in most jurisdictions, exposed polystyrene foam can't be left uncovered due to its toxic smoke if there is a fire. If it is exposed in an occupied space, it must be covered by wood, gypsum, or cement. . My building inspector nailed me on that. I learned the hard way.
Wow
