    Wonderful video. I hated my body for most of my life. Two things were major turnarounds for me: turning 50/hitting menopause, and recovery from mental illness (a lot of healing of past trauma). I love my body now, and ironically, I'm the heaviest I've ever been, due to the creeping pounds of age and the effects of one of my antidepressants. But I'm so happy, and have an incredible amount of peace. I wouldn't trade anything, including whatever society's current standard of beauty is on a given day, for those. Learning to screen out the constant barrage of messages from the media is difficult, but it can be done. Ultimately, it comes down to this - did you wake up this morning? Can you walk, hear, see? If so, congratulations! Everything else is gravy. EVERYTHING.

      This is actually so inspring! I am at this awkward stage in life where I recognise the importance of accepting my body for the way it is a long as it is functional and not care too much about the aesthetics but due to years of being trained to only consider one type of body or lifestyle to be beautiful, it is so hard to accept myself for who I am. I have started to seek therapy so hopefully that'll help me change my mindset but it is frustrating to be aware that something is off about my brain and not my body that is leading to my body image issues but not knowing how to fix it 😅

    Salam! When I got married I was so so scared and insecure about my body. And btw i live in a western country (mexico) and my husband is 100% arab. So when we got married he moved with me and he got a little too excited with the western women, i mean like his eyes were everywhere. And here women show soooo much skin. So that alone was so distracting (for him).... However, at that time my self esteem was on the ground. I was so heart broken. Because we were just married and he didn't payed attention to me but his eyes would be on other girls... Like literally ALL THE TIME. So i felt like there is something wrong with me. I mean, i wear the hijab and i dress modeslty (alhamdulillah). I was so sad, my hair started falling, i gained weight. I became so insecure with myself and with him. I just wanted to share this. I think we all need help in this journey on accepting ourselves. And learning to be in peace with our body.

      @ F R. Salam. Next time you and your husband go out, and he has wondering eyes, film it with your phone.
      Then go marriage counselling together, (not an imam, they're misogynistic) and show them the video.
      Realise the girls he look's at, don't look as good as you. Since he isn't romantically involved with them.
      If you don't have kids yet, make a fake profile on Facebook with a photo of a random hot girl, and try flirting with him.
      If he tells the imaginary girl, that he's single. Or flirts with her, then you can make a decision to divorce him now, instead of having kids with a cheating husband.
      Cheating husbands, are always deadbeat dads sis 💁‍♀️.
      You deserve so much better than that.
      There's a guy that Allah has made for you (soul mate), and he's most likely making Du'a for a girl like you.
      Your not going to meet that guy, if you stay with some dude who doesn't act like a husband.
      He's acting like he just hit puberty, and he's like "wow! Females!".😑
      A woman wants a MAN. Not this lil boy.
      May Allah give you strength, and help you make the best decision, Ameen. 🙏

      Salam, I can understand you and at the same time when you’re self esteem is low it makes things way worst you even start to get so paranoid that he’s looking at other women because you feel bad about yourself, it sucks when your husband doesn’t make you feel beautiful but all I can recommend is to work on your self esteem, that’s what I did, I stopped depending on him to make me feel attractive and I just worked on my mental health and physical health as well…. By the way are you Mexican? I am Mexican and Muslim I like to hear of other Mexican Muslims…

    Suuki mai means skinny woman. Also, I agree with what you were saying about fashion. I have a weird hairline so that whenever I wear a hijab without an underscarf, you see baby hairs in all directions and it just looks strange. And the reason why I think it looks strange is just because we have been so used to seeing a single type of ideal hijab style with an ideal hairline. So, it is hard to feel confident wearing a hijab that will never suit my face and hairline. Moreover, exercising is important in daily life, and it is true that specificity training will only give results to the specific thing you are training for life (like a long distance runner training for a marathon would not be great at lifting weights). But, I do think that it is important to try to incorporate different types of exercise, if your goal is only to be healthy. For example, cardio and resistance training in combination would be the best for this goal. Lastly, I have been going to the gym for many years (and I am only 20) and even though I feel comfortable and ignore ppl most of the time at the gym, I still get self-conscious some times. But I try my best to ignore and focus on myself and my workout. The way I see it, people are always going to have opinions and thoughts and questions, but that is on them and not me. I want to better myself. And I never see many other women, even non-hijabis. And I always find it sad because exercise is so important and because of the stereotype that it is a manly and aggressive sport, many women are deterred from it and are unwilling to try it out. If you could address the issue of muslim women and exercise barriers, I think that would be very important and interesting discussion. Addressing the reasons why these women feel this way and possible solutions. Thanks for reading, if you read this far lol

    It’s not a coincidence - look up food/grocery deserts. In areas of low income there tends to not even be a grocery store within walking distance.
    Your story resonated a lot with me. As a desi woman what makes everything harder is the expectations from your own mother. No matter what size I’ve been she’s always criticized me. When I was 30lbs lighter she said I looked like a zombie. Now she says I look like a fat donkey. There’s no way to win and she’s always in my head.

    • @nikiichan
      @nikiichan 3 года назад +2

      YES! My mother did the same. I either looked "sloth"/ "fat" when I was about 10kgs lighter "sick" . There is no in between. I think part of that is because my mother never came to terms with her body. Whenever I get her critique in my head I have to remind myself that that was then she is not saying it right now (because I am grown up and don't allow it), I am going to acknowledge it but reject it because it isn't my reality. I just wish women were more positive and less judgemental towards other women :/

Btw I love your talks I watch them at night after my baby sleeps so keep them going please you can literally talk about anything I’ll watch it lol

    So I am the in the same both in that I feel SUPER insecure because I agreed to marry a Pakistani man , he is soooooooooo thin and I am not even close to being thin and he said he doesn’t care but he hasn’t met me in person , I know I know for those of you that will say that ppl that meet online and marry are crazy , don’t go there because getting married the traditional way didn’t work for me in the past either lol . Anyway I know that the majority of Pakistani ppl are thin and I feel sooooooo nervous to even go to Pakistan like I’m sure the clothes there won’t fit my body type and I will be mortified when trying to find anything to fit me 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣😣

    • @xiahkixiri
      @xiahkixiri 3 года назад

      The majority of Pakistani people are not thin! There’s a lot of variance in body types and sizes, like anywhere. Also if you go there you can order online and stuff, and even in shops it’s very common for people to buy unstitched clothing and get it tailored for their body. You’ll be fine.

    I know I should exercise, but I hate doing it. Even if I have time to do it. First, I have to mentally (and physically) prepare to exercise. I can't eat or drink anything hours beforehand or else I get a stitch when I exercise. And then when I actually exercise, I can only do it for a short period before my heart beats so fast, and afterwards I just feel tired and sweaty and still somewhat unaccomplished. I wish I was one of those people who could exercise regularly and feel energized after doing so, but it's just not my experience :(

    Fitness advice at gym...go to someone with exercise science background- 4 years of college study it...and people who lost alot of weight +80 pounds and kept it off for 3 years or more.
    Avoid advice from gym rats + celebrities who give wrong advice that's not science backed.

    Same here about cups, it takes me long to decide which mug for a tea, took me a couple of years.
    I thought I was fat even though no one called me fat in my life in teens. Reality was because I did not get any validation or been told explicitly that I was a good weight, so I automatically assumed I was fat and not good enough. Fortunately, I was going through a spiritual high, getting deep into my deen, it did not effect me,I ended up with more confidence and just this overwhelming happiness in my soul so getting external validation was a minor issue, I started wearing hijab and abaya, not the fashionista type, later got into fashionista type but alhamdullah I am over that now wearing a burqa without veil.
    I fast now mondays and thursday since last Ramadan, its helped me with my relationship with Allah swt and a body feeling good alhamdullah.

    You’d look much better without hijab. God will still love you without it - I’m sure he doesn’t care about some material on your head!

      @@Whereisshellymiscavige Your “tip” was not helpful to her improving. We don’t wear hijab to look pretty, that’s not the point. Taking it off to look better is not the point of hijab. It’s actually a very insulting and unhelpful thing to say to a hijabi.
      Of course we would all look better without hijab. Duh. We all know this and it’s not helpful to point out the obvious. We wear hijab for modesty, to intentionally conceal part of our beauty and as a sign of devotion to Allah ( God ). It is a part of our religion not a fashion choice.
      So yes, you missed the point. Your comment was rude, unhelpful and ignorant.

      @@MsLeanneO you say my tip was not helpful to her. How do you know? Why are you taking her agency away from her? To think she is unable to speak for herself is more insulting than saying she’d look better without some polyester on her head. And again, I don’t think God is so petty to care about whether or not someone wears fabric on it their hair. Surely the almighty is beyond such trifle considerations...

      @@Whereisshellymiscavige I know because she is still wearing her hijab. She would take it off if she wanted to and she doesn’t need your suggestion to come to that conclusion because she’s not an idiot.
      You are in the wrong and you aren’t able to admit it. Your ignorance of our religion, the importance and purpose of hijab is blatantly obvious. I spelled it all out for you and you just double downed instead of trying to learn something. Pity.
