The song they are playing is called "Stick Pit" (with some extras thrown in) which is on the Monsters and Robots album by Buckethead. Les worked with Buckethead on that album and plays the Whamola in Stick Pit just like this video.
OMG!!! I was in the back of that crowd trippin balls!!! LOL Buckethead simply tore my face off and fed it to me at Wakarusa that summer! PEACE AND LOVE!!!
@garou827 It is Les Claypool, who bucketehad also has toured with. that1guy uses a Magic Pipe, which is totally different from Les' Whamola. Plus Les has his signature Mr. Krinkle Mask C:
love this duo. 2 of the weirdest guys in the best possible way! ive seen them both live many times and ive never had anything short of an amazing time! yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me!
it's called a whamola (also the name of the song). at the last Claypool show i was at the guy told me a fan made it for him and it's been part of his act ever since. it's used in the new version of the South Park song if you listen for it.
Buckethead plays "It's a Small World after all," "A Pirate's Life for Me" and "This is Halloween." They're all Disney tracks, the first you can hear on the ride at Disney Land; "A Pirate's Life for Me" is on Buckethead's Giant Robot album(where he uses a talkbox) and the last is from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Buckethead and Les Claypool, both crazy-ass geniuses cut from the same cloth. It's too bad we lost Zappa so many years ago - can you imagine a show with the three of them?!
This is probably the 30th time i've watched this vid. Its brilliant. Some of this seems impovised also, aside from a few of bucketheads songs that he plays.
the song is a experimental version of "stick pit" from the album by buckhead called monsters and robots which was co-produced by claypool..... the middle bits seem to be totally improvisatinal....... id expect the middle bit to be a taster of his disney album
it has one string that is 'strummed' by hittig the string with a drum stick. it can use fretted notes or you can use the lever at the top to alter the tension and therefore the pitch of the string
If i remember correctly, I believe i read an interview with buckethead, and that particular les paul is slightly larger than others to accommodate BH's height.
He did invent it...i know everything there is to primus and les and yes he invented this to create a chanlege...he bend the one string to create other tones...very amazing truly genious
There is one thing stealing something from someone if all you're doing is going with the flow. And yeah, Buckethead may steal stuff but he has his own style and what he puts back in return is amazing.
yes thats right... the instrument is called a whamola, basically its a bass string and a whammy bar(tromolo) whammy+tromolo=whamola. and they guy who invented it... no its not les, les got the instrument from a fan of him, and then les made it better so that he would make the beautiful sounds of love with it :)
"It's a small world... after all", "Pirate's Life" ,& then "This is Halloween (?)" from the Tim Burton film Nightmare before Christmas. It musta got musty under the Pig Head mask.
Azam Ali shes a pretty good singer and did sing one of his songs didn't want to phrase it that way but i did but the song was "Coma" that was a pretty freaken kool song but i want more!!!!1 lol
yeah $300 pedal, has really improved though, doesn't kill your tone nearly as much anymore. but also when tapping above 12th fret, you can use harmonics tapping, though you can't control precisely the pitch. He is however definitely using the pedal.
You should listen to C2B3. No Serj, but it has Brian Worrel and Brains instead, Claypool does vocals so the songs can sound Primus like, very cool stuff.

It is Les Claypool, who bucketehad also has toured with. that1guy uses a Magic Pipe, which is totally different from Les' Whamola. Plus Les has his signature Mr. Krinkle Mask C:

I've seen Buckethead twice and That 1 Guy 3 times. Both are amazing.
This is the coolest performance i have ever seen.
Oh Wakarusa. Great jam here. I moved right before the first one and could never make the festival. I recognize some folks in the backround. J Hubs! XD

ive seen them both live many times and ive never had anything short of an amazing time!
yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me!

incredible sound effect from Buckhead!!!!!!!!
Pure greatness when he played 'This is Halloween' from Nightmare Before Christmas
Buckethead plays "It's a Small World after all," "A Pirate's Life for Me" and "This is Halloween."

Buckethead and Les Claypool, both crazy-ass geniuses cut from the same cloth. It's too bad we lost Zappa so many years ago - can you imagine a show with the three of them?!
it's been around for hundreds of years. mainly used in jazz bands and such. Les only revolutionized it and brought it to the mainstream.
Claypool and Buckethead... One of the best combos ever!!!
best duo of all time
This is probably the 30th time i've watched this vid. Its brilliant. Some of this seems impovised also, aside from a few of bucketheads songs that he plays.
Welcome for the first time too listening to Bucket, and Les.
I cant believe that almost half a million people have watched this. I don't have a single dollar to show for it ;) Glad ya'll enjoyed it!
Les Claypool + Buckethead = reason for living
TWO GENIUS
You can tell at 3:07 that under that pig face Claypool's got a bewildered smirk on his face... and he's LOVIN' it!
them two together is the most wonerful thing i ever had the pleasure to witness
the song is a experimental version of "stick pit" from the album by buckhead called monsters and robots which was co-produced by claypool..... the middle bits seem to be totally improvisatinal....... id expect the middle bit to be a taster of his disney album
The Best Bassist and guitarist in the world team up

I'd love that ... thanks.
That gutbucket thing kicks ass. Claypool is nuts!
This is so amazing, god I love Buckethead.
Claypool's bass is awesome, and buckethead's playing is insane.
THey also have Monsters and Robots under buckethead. Claypool even wrote and did the vocals for one song on the album.
the whamola... its fretless bass with a lever to control the pitch and a one pick up at the bottom, it's gotta be the funnest instrument to play ever
Buckethead + Les Claypool = AWESOME!!!!!!
it has one string that is 'strummed' by hittig the string with a drum stick. it can use fretted notes or you can use the lever at the top to alter the tension and therefore the pitch of the string
the this is halloween part is so awesome
dude this song gets stuck in my head!!!!!!!!!!!
Bodacious-
Claypool is helping out Buckethead during his set at Wakarusa.
STICK PIT!!!!! i love the song
first minute or so of this is just absurd...they are so effin good...then like 2:20 to the end...love les droppin it on the whamola
If i remember correctly, I believe i read an interview with buckethead, and that particular les paul is slightly larger than others to accommodate BH's height.
This was awesome. Just feeding off of eachother. Love it when improvisation happens.
Les needs to start drinking lite beer.
the instrument he is playing is a whamola. check out one of his songs drum/ whamola jam
God damn I love this video.
my idols... dear god there is nothing sexier then when Tom, slash, Les, and others played on teh same stage
best video ever
ever
i like how it is the middle of june. everyone is wearing t shirts and BH is wearing a flannel AND a windbreaker shell.
Interesting...so this is one of the times when Les plays the one string bass...truly amazing
He did invent it...i know everything there is to primus and les and yes he invented this to create a chanlege...he bend the one string to create other tones...very amazing truly genious
Thats just awesome. :x
What a great anaology!!! \m/
to anyone who disliked this, you do not deserve to hear this brilliance.
There is one thing stealing something from someone if all you're doing is going with the flow.
And yeah, Buckethead may steal stuff but he has his own style and what he puts back in return is amazing.
BUCKETHEAD TE AMO
Cool, Nice and Simple... Thanks!

"This Is Halloween" is actually by Danny Elfman.
Amazing
that was pretty cool
Oddity sums this up nicely
buckethead makes my head explode.
Ever seen Claypool/Primus live? Les is a madman, imagine John Cleese with the gangly legs playing the bass & doing the Ministry of Silly walks.

i need to see one of their show together again this is fucking freak
You have a valid point.
Yes, and at four minutes he starts up with the Nightmare Before Christmas music.
buckethead is the most surreal, robot guitarist ever
yes thats right... the instrument is called a whamola, basically its a bass string and a whammy bar(tromolo) whammy+tromolo=whamola.
and they guy who invented it... no its not les, les got the instrument from a fan of him, and then les made it better so that he would make the beautiful sounds of love with it :)

That little kid at around 2 00mins would be scared out of his mind!! Lawl.

Holy shit what Buckethead starts playing at 2 mins sounds fucking insane (even though it's short).
yeah $300 pedal, has really improved though, doesn't kill your tone nearly as much anymore. but also when tapping above 12th fret, you can use harmonics tapping, though you can't control precisely the pitch. He is however definitely using the pedal.

Buckethead ROCKS
man he is TALL :O
Buckets are usually carried, but Les don't need to carry this bucket.
fun and music, together, forever, Buzzin'!
is that last little bit that buckethead plays off of nightmare before christmas? like, here comes halloween? haha
If you were talking to me, I meant the strap that Buckethead is using on his guitar.
