Fun trivia: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started as a gag on Daredevil. The ooze that created them is supposed to be from the same accident and the Foot Clan was a riff on one of Daredevils antagonists, The Hand. And I'm pretty sure Splinter (his name anyway) was a play on Matt's mentor from the comics as well.

Best live action adaptation of a Marvel property. Especially his interactions with is priest are just incredible scenes with great writing and acting. The fight scenes are amazing as well, of course, but it's the quiet moments that show his internal struggle, his introspection and how his religious beliefs fit with his abilities and the world he finds himself in that really set this apart.

Matt's awareness of his surroundings despite being blind is due to his "radar sense" which are electromagnetic waves his brain creates that emanate in 369 degrees, bounce off solid objects in his vicinity and return the exact shapes and locations of everything around him.

  • @thebkg
    @thebkg Год назад +1

In the comics the accident was with nuclear waste material. I think this show changed that simply because such material would never be found on a random unsecured dock. Regardless the end result is superhuman hearing, smell, and even touch. In the comics he could read non-braille writing just from feeling the ink on the paper.
His hearing gives him a Radar type sensory perception, like a bat. The result is his awareness of where objects are in the space around him has a superhuman accuracy, which in turn gives him a superhuman sense of balance. Where a tightrope walker moves slowly across a highwire, Daredevil runs across it at full speed.
Granted, those are his powers in the comics. Not all of which is used in this show. The 2003 Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck wasn't a great movie, but it did a great job of visually displaying how his abilities work.

48:35 you are right. It’s great that you had that impression from the beginning. Matt isn't a 'normal' blind person, he acts as an average blind person during the day at his job as a lawyer, but he always has these supernaturally heightened senses. Matt may be blind, but all his other senses are maxed to a superhuman level, that's his superpower.

Episode 2 has one of the greatest single takes in my opinion. I'm a huge Daredevil fan and THAT scene!!! The cinematography, the one light lit in the shape of a cross, the fatigue he gets throughout the fight, the camera movement.
Matt isn't a hero because he's incredibly strong he's fighting purely on willpower alone, he's believes Justice is Blind but when it fails he is Justice. That scene to me fully represents Matt Murdock.

  • @greencello599

Daredevil is one of the more interesting MARVEL heroes. He's a street level vigilante who doesn't get involved with the world ending events unless he absolutely has to. He is also one of the more overt characters in comics with his faith, which in this case is Roman Catholic. Matt stands with the law, yet knowingly acts outside of it to bring about justice. If/when you get to Jessica Jones, the first season villain in that show, played frighteningly superb by David Tennant, began as a Daredevil villain.
There is a movie starring Charlie Cox that is fun, light-hearted, and based on a book. Stardust. Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, who also co-wrote Good Omens, which is an Amazon series starring David Tennant.

So glad that you're finally checking this out and enjoying it. And Daredevil might just be on the track of becoming your new favourite superhero lmao. This series is so well done that it still holds the title in all superhero genre of the best live action series ever made, yet.
Fun fact: If you didn't realize yet, the actress who plays Claire also played Ahsoka in The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett
The fight scene at the end of episode 2 is so so good, and you caught it, it's a very long 7 minute fight scene, all I one take. Still blows my mind to this day as to how they pulled that off so smooth 🤯
The flashbacks were integrated nicely in the story... and the level violence, that's a thing born out of creative freedom, and it works in case of Daredevil and doesn't feel unnecessary. Wilson Fisk is supposed to be scary and intimidating, and showing things like the one at the end of episode 3 really buries deep the idea that this guy is not to be messed with...
Looking forward to more Daredevil! Peace! ✌

Oh. . . just you wait, sister.
LOVE this show. Daredevil is one of my favorite Marvel heroes, because super-senses aside, he's just an ordinary guy. Lots of training, but nothing that really helps him take down lots of tough thugs who aren't afraid to fight dirty, violently, and with lethal intent. And Matt is kind of the last superhero you want helping you out, because he has this rather extraordinary ability to make everything worse. But he does his best, always gets back up, and always tries to do the right thing. And will eventually get that right thing done. Charlie Cox was amazing, so glad he's been brought back into the MCU proper. Word has it he'll be in Echo, and then he's getting his own show again!
And I really, really, REALLY need a Spider-Man/Daredevil Team-Up. They're great together in the comics, and I really hope his brief cameo in No Way Home isn't all we'll see of them together.

When he was creeated, theidea was that the radioactive substance heightened his senses. In the 80s Frank Miller retconned it. In theory, it just unlocked superhuman potential that everybody has, but few can access.
In the almost impossible event of nobody having said this already, you should watch JessicaJones and Luke Cage. Maybe Defenders, too (iffy). Avoid Iron Fist, just read the Wikipedia stub for his participation in other shows.

Since Addy saw him in Spider-Man, it's fair to make the comparison: Peter Parker's "spider-sense" or "tingle" can warn him of impending danger. Murdock's senses are always active in a full 360 degree radius, so he's alerted of things that aren't necessarily an imminent threat.

The respect between Daredevil and Spider-Man is one of the best parts of the comics. Now they have a chance to play with that. My favorite story in the comics is when Daredevil accidentally kills someone and his old friend Spider-Man visits him and convinces him to retire and turn himself in. He has to earn the mantle of superhero back.

46:19 - We heard him talking to Wesley. Plus, he was probably contracted as a series regular. I'd have to double check the credits, but I imagine that he was in them for episode 2 as well despite not appearing or speaking in it.

You are right, the chemicals that took his sight somehow enhanced the rest of his senses and gave him another one, some kind of echolocation that allows him to "see" his surroundings.

I am so glad you are watching this series. This and the related shows are truly a view of the gritty street level heroes of Marvel. He is very much a mortal man who doesn't have amazing powers like Thor or Captain America, but he uses what he does have to help the common citizens. I was thrilled that they finally made it official and brought DD into the MCU and have a new series lined up for him. Can't wait!

Did you notice all the easter eggs referencing events in the MCU sprinkled throughout? A lot of people will tell you these pre Disney+ shows aren’t actually part of the MCU but they still are to me. There isn’t anything that directly contradicts that and it’s fun to include them as part of the timeline/watch order. This series takes place after the first Avengers movie.

DD has been my favorite superhero for many decades. The character is OG Marvel; he had his own comics run before Iron Man did, in 1964. While I don't always agree with his decisions, I identify with his internal struggle so I can understand why he did something the way he did it.
On a more comics nerd note, there are very few characters in the comics, and none in the MCU to this point, who can do what Daredevil can. Not even Wanda can tell how many people are inside a building from across the street. There is almost no one better at reconnaissance than Matt.
DD fun fact: the chemicals from his accident are what created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The Daredevil s1 hallway scene is maybe one of the most impactful cinematic moments in modern tv/movie making. Even star wars did it. The Darth Vader Rogue one ending scene is a direct result of the Daredevil one-shot.

It was artist Frank MIller (300, SIn City, Batman, the Dark Knight returns) who reinvigorated the series and turned him into the dark character he is today. The Kingpin ( Fisk) originally was Spider-Man's nemesis, but has taken on others in the MCU, including Matt. Daredevil can hear a heartbeat from blocks away, smell a gun before it's even drawn, and feel the air displacement from any weapon punch/kick. HIs touch is sensitive enough to read without Braille, or feel where someone's weak if they grab onto him, the main essence of Akido/Judo..Add on the eventual red costume, and he's as frightening to criminals as DC's Batman. Keep watching, it gets better each episode.
