Ehh, I disagree. Oda has shown countless times in this past that death in the one piece story is usually very far out of sight and out of mind for the readers. This is the case with not just main characters and protagonist but even antagonist who aren’t even crucial to the story, even lesser known side characters like Pell. The deaths that do occur are typically in flashback, or with like Marineford the countless unnamed marines etc. This isn’t game of thrones, I think the writer puts too much emphasis on the inevitable post arc banquets and celebrations and happy moments to really kill too many people off, and the people he did kill off like ace and whitebeard honestly was just unavoidable, and absolutely crucial not only to have us all invested into the future main antagonists black beard, admiral etc, but it was also a crucial point in breaking luffy, and making him actually show patience to get stronger, apart from his crew to avoid such deaths among his friends in the future. I don’t see how garps “death” could be anything other then a fake out , because outside of people questioning Kuzans true motivations or loyalty, it does nothing in driving the story further imo that a fake out can’t also do…and I just think it would be highly unlike oda to do in this way at this time

In all honesty we could have a Reverse Marineford where Blackbeard tries to execute Garp on live TV for the world to see and a Marine alliance comes to rescue him.
I have a theory relating to garp's backstory, my theory is that he properly hanged out with mountain bandits in the past, which is how he properly met dadan, not to mention he is also wielding a metal pipe, same weapon that sabo, ace and luffy used during their time living with the mountain bandits. I also believe his father was also a marine as well and treated him the same way Garp did with ace, luffy and sabo, hence why garp was so harsh on them. And properly at some point, garp was captured by pirates and tortured for a long time until he was saved by the marines, after all that he decided to join the navy, and the rest is history. He also properly knew the difference between good and bad pirates, as he properly compared the celestial dragons to the pirates that tortured him, which properly gave him his moral compass. But hey that's just my theory, who knows, maybe oda will give us a backstory of garp, just like he gave us the full backstory of Oden, Kuma, Bonney, Big mom and kaido along with many more.

Garp not only had the Son which started a global revolution, a direct Grandson which will probably get the next King of the Pirates, an indirect Grandson which was one of the famoust Pirates alive but also laid the foundation of the new Marine which will probably not fight against Luffy & Co when its about the Revolution thing.
This shows Garp character but over everything is his family we’ve seen his love for his family surpasses all like his Luffy for Luffy will always be more than Koby cause Luffy is just like him in character and he just wants Luffy to be great and I will I think at the end we’ll show him and Luffy have a moment
How would you compare Garp to in other anime? I can't compare him to Roshi or to a villian. It's too bad we can't see more of him. He's a damn cool character.
Garp will always be my favorite character, voice actor perfect, design perfect, one of the strongest in the verse, aura is perfect idk man but the D clan is amazing

Garp both the marine's biggest success and failure. he has all the traits and skills needed to change and do whatever the fuck he wants for the world let alone the marines. truly make the system better like he dreams it to be, and over time kinda has (outcomes iffy but better than nothing). yet for decades he's been stuck in a cycle of feeling powerless to the game (he never was, just cowardly and refused higher responsibility) and in a "just following orders" mentality. it's easy to see why him and dragon drifted apart. garp wont truly fight for his bigger ideals even thou if he just said the word half the marines and probably country's are going to jump ship with him in a coup, while dragon only fights for his ideals but is to cautious to make any big moves. thats what makes them funny. its the one who dos not think in luffy that was able to do what the other two dreamed of doing. freeing the world the thing is that's also why hes such a major character and such a major clinch pin mover for the final arcs. if he is dead luffy and dragon will flip and go after blackbeared. while if hes alive his redemption arc once luffy or cobi (probably cobi) gets him to actually stand up for what he seys and dos will be legendary. hell if hes still alive im expecting him to fight at least one of these three. akienu, kong, or imu. those fights would be awesome.
