What would establish Mihawk as a great swordsman is what he did AS a swordsman. Shanks may be a great swordsman but everything HE accomplished, he accomplished as a pirate captain. I think Mihawk did what Zoro does and the people he fought were swordsman of notoriety or at least challenged organizations of notoriety.

Idk how to describe my theory on Blackbeard's multiple personalities, but I believe: He has 3 of them: 1 for himself, 1 for a nightmare or his evil side brought to life, and 1 for his good, charismatic side - also brought to life. Since his sides are all dream-related, and 1P is all about having a dream to empower us to live on - he may have 3 dreams, or 3 possible destinies. So he could become conflicted when his arc comes, not just with his crew and the world, but also in himself. [spoiler below for pre-marineford] ....... .... .. This explains how he was able to able to possess 2 powers ... or possibly 3. 1 for bringing his good and evil sides to life - or his morality, 1 for his dark-dark ability, and 1 for wb's power. This also will explain how he doesn't sleep, but he does risk letting 1 personality takeover while the other 2 rest.
