Nice one mate, would open on the remote but not detect for starting. - 2012 F11. Combination of holding the key next to key sensor and pressing start 3 times/holding key next to column for approx 30sec to 1 minute as others suggested in the comments fixed it. Message appears on dash in white confirming key is detected and car can be started. Nice.
Wrong. There is a fuse. I have a 2016 750i xdrive. Key not detected, doors wouldn't lock or unlock and the tpms wasn't working. I started testing all the fuses in the trunk and replacing f244, a 5 amp, fixed all of that.
This is literally my exact problem right now. Either of my key fobs have any reaction to my car and my tpms malfunction started too. Mine is a 2018 m240i, could be the same thing right?
Useful video but leaves a few questions. I have two fobs and the problem of the car saying the key is not present is the same for both. I have this week changed the car battery and both fobs' batteries but I am still getting this same 'key not present' issue and the car just wont start unless I hold the key to the steering wheel column as you have shown. Why do i have to re-pair the fob every time I get in the car? I have a 650i F13 from 2013.
same here, both keys with good battery but the car does not recognize its presence. If i touch the column it will start, but it wont close the car (remote) or start it without touching the column in that spot. In other words, the transponder on the column works, the keys work, but the keyless systems doesnt.. and we can't find the problem Any ideas?
@@LeonardoGranzotto I replaced the radio receiver on my X5 F15 and it fixed the key not detected error, but both fobs still cannot control the locks with a button press and I still have the accompanying TMP Malfunction
Diversity antenna amplifier replacement fixed the problem for my F10. Ordered a used one online with the same part number, and it did not require any coding. Now my comfort access and key fob functions properly again. Hope this helps.
I had this same issue on my f11, none of his recommendations worked for me. I have a solder reflow station so I reflowed the keys circuit board in the hope it was a cracked solder joint causing it, now it works perfectly. This also cured the battery draining issue that causes the message to be displayed on the dash. If you know someone who can disassemble and reflow the board I recommend you do this as the f11/f10 is nearly 15 years old so the solder joints would be prone to cracking at this age. Hope this helps save you a bit of money.
I just purchased a new key (from BMW dealership) and encountered the same issue. BMW said to hold the key on the steering column and press the start button 3 times. This didn't work, but I discovered that if you hold the key up to the steering column for around 30 seconds it will recognise the key. So, very similar to what you said. I did this on a BMW 4 Series with the NBT iDrive system. All key errors only appeared on the dash. When the key is recognised the dash and display unit will light, then you can start the car as normal. I've been enjoying your tips, as I'm sure, I'll need to use some of them! 🤔👌
Pressing 3 times for me worked BMW told me I needed a new key . I refused to believe it. They tried everything I just had a lil patience cause my spare key has never been used. Thanks!

If the key works outside with comfort access, and will start you hold it inside the car, but not when it is in your pocket, does that mean the receiver in the steering column is not working well? Is that sign the car battery needs to be replaced? The battery in the FOB is brand new. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I have started to have similar issues. It doesn’t always sync the key even held against the transponder. The second key works fine, so I guess my fears of it being the transponder in the key are confirmed (it’s a new battery). Annoying when all of the car settings are tied to the key. I didn’t realise quite how much I’d personalised until I used a different key! Is it possible to clone keys or transfer the presets between them?!

Hi Dean. Have a bmw f30 2014 Claimed a new key under my rac key cover, locksmith came out and knackered the FEM. He replaced with new unit from bmw, coded it in and car works fine now. however key fob doesnt unlock the car initially and key blade does need to be used to unlock drivers door which causes the alarm to go off. I sit in the car and press unlock on the keyfob and now it works. Car will start up fine etc. Can now stand outside the car and the key fob will lock and unlock like normal however if i leave the car off for 10-15min or so and come back to it, i have to repeat the whole process again.
Btw he didnt even create a new key and just gave my spare key back which worked completely fine before he touched the car. Think he gave up on it and said ask rac for a alternative lock smith

Went home got out locked the car fine This morning I tried to unlock the car no luck Then i tried key battery. Did that and still didn’t work. Opened door manually went to steering collum and works. Take the battery out and gently adjust the contacts. There are two that make contact with the flat side of the battery and two more that makes contact with the side edge.
Hi In my F11 from 2014 with Confort access i have this issue around 6 moths. Sometimes works fine, and another times i need put the Key like you said. I try with the backup key and the problem its the same. Change batterys and continous this problem. Both keys doesn’t unlock or lock the car I can only start the guy buy putting the keys at the steering wheel column. The only time the key works is once I’ve parked the car overnight in the morning it’ll unlock and then that’s it for the whole day till the next morning doesn’t work. From the previous owner I received 2 keys one perfectly working and the second one supposedly needing a battery change (of course that wasn't it).It wouldn't open the door and wouldn't start the car. So I started looking for solutions. When I tried to start the car with the second key, as shown in the video, by mistake the working one was with me in the car. Now I can start the engine with the first key by holding the sign on the console, but the doors won't open or close. I have changed the battery several times. Now I lock the door with the mechanical key and start the engine holding the console. PLEASE HELP ME 🙏 . I appreciate all suggestions .

Having a silly time with getting the correct keys for these cars. the CAS4/cas4+/FEM keys rarely work when I get them in and ive found no credible information for how the circuit boards differ or which cars require PCF7953P vs PCF7945P chip. or if it even matters. I always end up getting the car going but sometimes at the sacrifice of multiple keys being used. Does anyone know what cars need to see what chip/board and vise versa?????

Hi mate. My key is not recognised when the car gets hot, Put around 10 to 20 litres of cold water on the roof the key starts to work.. It is very embarrassing when this happens as i'm always in a tracksuit... People must think i'm nicking the car as alarm goes off as i need to use the blade key it get into the car... This then sets off the alarm. Until the key is recognised when put against the cowling over and over to get the key recognised... Need this sorting..

I'm also told no BMW garage will attempt to fully update my F10 520 as i have been advised by BMW Chester that if they try to do the updates that this wipes the stereo system and will need to renew the whole unit. I was advised by a BMW specialist that i need the small updates as my stereo kept dropping my phone and the key stopped working in hot sun light. I have replaced the battery and discharged the cables as my friend is an Auto electrician and said to touch both positive and negative terminal's together to discharge any static electricity from all ECU's... Using both keys, changed both batteries, car still has issues opening/locking while outside and inside the car with buttons (works once every like 5-20 clicks), car doesn't start when both keys are in my pockets or even one, when holding next to the receiver on the steering column it detects after like maybe 3 minutes sometimes even longer (rarely on the first 3 tries it works as well). Could it be a battery problem? Everything else in my car is completely fine no battery issues nothing no errors nothing.
I can lock & unlock my car, but it doesnt start. I need to put the key next to the steering wheel then it will accept it. But after i open a door it says its not possible to start it again… Goes for both keys…. Only thing changed the battery was disconnected for installing m1 m2 buttons

Take the original key away and press the start button nothing displays on dash/infotainment like it normally would “key not detected. So now I have this brand new key ordered from BMW and can’t even sync the key since the vehicle won’t prompt to hold key up to sensor lol I have no idea what to do in this one.

You really a doctor, I have a realllly weird issue. I walk to the car and sometimes just unlocks without touching. The key fob always locks unlocks unless I try to unlock behind the handle and I get this clicking lock issue and then the remote don't work.
Sounds like your have a comfort access issue , when the door handle goes faulty this happens. I’m currently experiencing it myself , You have to disconnect the faulty handle or replace it.

Hi I have a X5 F15 I can open the car with the key, but sometime I an’t start the car, have to walk 15min and sometime it starts again. Or when the engine is running and I drop passenger, they close the doors (frt/bck/tailgate), the engine is on I have a message on nbt and car screen Key missing, please blallalalalaal… but it’s doesn’t work. They already change the bdc controller and update the system, but still there. Any one has this issue? Thank you for your help

Hi mate.
My key is not recognised when the car gets hot,
Put around 10 to 20 litres of cold water on the roof the key starts to work..
It is very embarrassing when this happens as i'm always in a tracksuit...
People must think i'm nicking the car as alarm goes off as i need to use the blade key it get into the car...
This then sets off the alarm.
Until the key is recognised when put against the cowling over and over to get the key recognised...

I'm also told no BMW garage will attempt to fully update my F10 520 as i have been advised by BMW Chester that if they try to do the updates that this wipes the stereo system and will need to renew the whole unit.
I was advised by a BMW specialist that i need the small updates as my stereo kept dropping my phone and the key stopped working in hot sun light.
I have replaced the battery and discharged the cables as my friend is an Auto electrician and said to touch both positive and negative terminal's together to discharge any static electricity from all ECU's...
This has been done but all problems are the same...
Please let me know...

They are talking absolute bulls**t my friend ! The biggest bulls**t I ever heard. Nothing will happen to the radio what so ever ! That’s a fact if you want it sorted and updated bring it to me if your in London I will sort it for you. And I will update for you with no issue and resolve this issue

Using both keys, changed both batteries, car still has issues opening/locking while outside and inside the car with buttons (works once every like 5-20 clicks), car doesn't start when both keys are in my pockets or even one, when holding next to the receiver on the steering column it detects after like maybe 3 minutes sometimes even longer (rarely on the first 3 tries it works as well). Could it be a battery problem? Everything else in my car is completely fine no battery issues nothing no errors nothing.

I can lock & unlock my car, but it doesnt start.
I need to put the key next to the steering wheel then it will accept it.
But after i open a door it says its not possible to start it again…
Goes for both keys….
Only thing changed the battery was disconnected for installing m1 m2 buttons

Hi Dean, can you do a video on safely remapping my BMW engine and transmission, and the things to look out for before and after tuning the engine (specifically a diesel car).
He has made videos before on this, and highly recommends not to remap a diesel engine

What if you push the the start button but no message displays on dash or infotainment system?
Never had anyone with that issue to really comment but when I do I will help them. No point giving out information like that when it’s not needed as of yet.
@@BMWDoctor First time I came across this. I work on keys for a local dealership, long story short the original key works fine starts up the vehicle no problem. Take the original key away and press the start button nothing displays on dash/infotainment like it normally would “key not detected. So now I have this brand new key ordered from BMW and can’t even sync the key since the vehicle won’t prompt to hold key up to sensor lol I have no idea what to do in this one.

Hi. I replaced the key fob battery for a F36 when it said to replace it on the dash screen, but still getting the same warning even with the new battery. Have you come across this or know how to fix it please?

You really a doctor, I have a realllly weird issue. I walk to the car and sometimes just unlocks without touching. The key fob always locks unlocks unless I try to unlock behind the handle and I get this clicking lock issue and then the remote don't work.
Sounds like your have a comfort access issue , when the door handle goes faulty this happens. I’m currently experiencing it myself , You have to disconnect the faulty handle or replace it.

I have x5 2019. It can not recognize the keys. Any 1 of 2 keys. There is no mechanical start with usual key start in all cars. IT IS REALLY STUPID ON PART OF BMW. I AM STRANDED. TRIED TO RESET KEY AS YOU DEMONSTRATED. NOT WORKING. WILL NEVER BUY BMW. SMART CAR BUT NO COMMON SENSE

Can anyone please help me I’ve Recently had had my timing chain done at a bmw specialist it had slipped of but I thought the battery was dead took it out the charge and put back in got it and towed to the garage now I have it back the doors won’t lock atall using the key but will start when held to steering column but won’t work on the locks or start without being held to the column 2012 320d please any info appreciated x
