The Gen 8 is the best rc crawler of the year in my opinion
I have to agree. It is a very sweet rig.
100% agree, I have a gen 8 v2 and with a few mods it's just as capable and more capable than a lot of the big money rigs. Sure it leaves some to be desired... But for the price, it's unbeatable
My pretty much brand new gen 9 is very loud and shaky in forward, but smooth and quite in reverse. Do you think this no grease could be causing it or something else? Its weird reverse is so smooth. comparably.
I have the same exact problem with mine. So smooth in reverse, but shaky af in forward. When I lifted the truck off the ground, it shakes so terribly that I began opening the gear pinion, and messing around with the mesh. After getting it the best I can, I plan on greasing all poratals and axles. Hopefully it makes a difference. There has to be someway for forward to run as smooth as reverse, or so you would think. Please lmk if you learn anything. Good luck!
If I seen water in the drivetrain I would rip it all apart blast it with solvent cleaner, dry it out and pack it with grease.
First thing I did with my Bronco trx4 was pack the portals with grease because I know eventually the water, mud and sand will try to work it's way in. Helps make the drivetrain quieter as well.
Cool video!
Probably wouldn't hurt to pull those diffs apart and grease them, and bearings as well.
What would you recommend to grease them with? They would all use the same grease?
You should've just packed them tight. The grease won't stay anyway. I had to do the same thing with 3 Ground Pounder transmissions and they take over 200 amps of battery power alone powering them. Ground Pounder transmissions are known to blow, and are considered the trucks weak spot and I've never had a problem, with just a little grease. The spur has to be changed to metal and a different pitch. I don't buy the "Plastic doesn't need to be lubed" argument. Redcat doesn't even use matched pinions and spurs in the Ground Pounder and they've been making them for almost 10 years now. And they still give you the wrong sized lug wrench that won't pull the tires. Really. You're lucky to get past the first run on the stock spur gear. Most don't. Again, no grease in the tranny or on the spur at all. Of course they blow. I can't believe your portal axles are that dry. Wow. But, that's the first thing I said about the Ground Pounder transmission as well. Wow, they go through all the trouble of designing, engineering, and producing these things only to neglect them before they can get out the door? That doesn't even make sense to me. I would hate to think Traxxas is the same way at double the price. But now you don't know. I know they do use different oils in their rear ends. But that doesn't mean they grease them. Does it? If you had water, you really should've tossed the bearings and put in rubber sealed bearings. They do make kits for them aftermarket. Redcat doesn't as far as I know.
Awesome video love the lights, and great information
Bad ass! I hope my wife is getting my son and I one each. Been dropping hint for the longest! lol
Thanks sir. It’s a really awesome rig for the price.
I personally love the fact they have little to no grease in them. It is easier to add quality grease this way and not deal with low grade cheap grease. Just add some Cow RC under butter and it's ready to rock.
That’s a good way to look at it.lol or if there going to put grease in a “WATER RPROOF RIG” they would put good grease I them. Thanks for watching.
@@triplexrcgarage1499 mine has some white lithium grease in it....I used brakeclean and put marine grease in as well thanks!
But that doesn't help the bearings.
Just curious.. I'm gonna check mine tonight..if there is grease on them..is it ok to add marine grease and mix it with whatever grease is already there? Awesome vids btw..really enjoying them...keep it up👍👍
I do try to clean out the old but it not that important. Thanks for watching.👍🏻
Do the gen8 haw low range and diff lock??
If there isn’t any out yet I’m sure there will be
I have yet to order mine, but will soon. I was thinking of using white lithium grease spray
As long as you’re not hitting water you should be fine. I use marine grease because it repels water.
Thanks for watching.👍🏻

A great informative video, watching you gives me the confidence to do the job myself.
As to that comment below, I hope he has better luck than me, I mentioned me getting one of these and I got the “what do you want another one for “ from my wife. I need to work on her some more, I normally get a result in the end. ... fingers crossed 🤞 x
Thanks sir for watching and the nice words 😁
Why do you think they didn't lube the portals? Are they hoping the thing breaks so you buy more parts?
I just think it was the first run and they were in a hurry to get them out. But truthfully I rather put my own grease in are use Marine grease. .
@@triplexrcgarage1499 Yeah I just opened mine up yesterday and there was grease (albiet a small amount) in the portal axles and pumpkins. I through in a hefty amount of marine grease. Thanks for the video! It was helpful.
The gen 8 looks great but I’m not going to lie, I think the trx 4 is much better. It is more aesthetically pleasing with nicer parts.
Dan Gavin - RC videos worse plastics though
Zach no, my trx 4 seems to take a beating easily. The plastics on it are very strong
Did you get an oil change with that lube job, lol, love the headlights, why change everything out,was those parts broke
No I just like those electronic better. Besides I put all the new stuff in the GEN7 because the same parts are all bad in the GEN7. The radio receiver went bad in the GEN7 the ESC went bad in the GEN7 and the servo went bad in the GEN7.
And that’s why I put what I like in the Gen8 lol
@@triplexrcgarage1499 thank you for the info, know I have to watch mine, when I get it🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆👍👍👍👍👍
