When they made this movie, they consulted Jewish, Muslim, and Christian scholars, which is why the movie contains elements from all three Abrahamic religions. They put a lot of effort into this movie, and it shows!
At the end of the credits, quotes about Moses from the Hebrew Bible, New Testament, and Quran also appear!
Moses is in the Old Testament, New Testament was mostly Jesus
@@clarehidalgo I was just stating that the quote used in the credits was from the New Testament. That’s at least what it said and credited to. It was Acts 7:35.
As someone who watched this every Passover I knew about Jewish and Christian consultants but not Muslim ones. Thats a neat bit of info!
@@fizzyizzypop1300 yes! Another fun fact is that Moses is actually the most mentioned person in the Quran.
Just an interesting fact that I thought I should share!
That's actually hella interesting! So neat that they did so much research for the movie to be as good as it is
Fun fact: When DreamWorks was working on this movie, they were working on Shrek at the same time. If the animators slacked off making this movie, they would send them to work on Shrek instead as a punishment, which they called getting “Shreked!”
And that's why we have a cinematic MASTERPIECE and a beautiful SHITPOST
I thought it was antz
That's hilarious! 😂
And ironically, the project they weren't taking seriously and considered working on it as a humiliation for an artist turned out to be way more successful and spawned 3 more sequels and even spin-offs.
Yess
i’m still baffled this movie was made by the same company who made goddamn Trolls 💀
Same corporation owns it, but obviously it was VERY different people
@@thecapitalg it took me just a few seconds to realize i should correct what i said lol
I wish DreamWorks would do more films like Prince of Egypt and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish instead of more films where hair creatures sing pop songs and hire terrible people to voice some of them
And Boss Baby
And Shrek.
Just to give you an idea of how hard the animators went for this movie, the gorgeous 4 minute Red Sea sequence took them 2 YEARS to animate
(that’s some insane dedication)
I still don’t get why some people won’t give this movie a chance, just because it has to do with God. That's like me refusing to watch Hercules just because the Greek gods are in it.
Same tbh, I'm not religious at all but I can still appreciate that this movie is a masterpiece
How many people actually don't like this movie because of that? Never heard that before
While obviously it’s not exactly too popular, every person I’ve seen that has watched it has loved it
Trying so hard to be oppressed
@@viedal Man shut your cringey ass up😭
He WHISTLES the song his mom sang as he walks around the palace. He literally DOES remember. This movie is too detailed(in a good way)
WAIT FR I GOTTA REWATCH AGAINN
WHAT IVE NEVER NOTICED
still not at all realistic though, and thats just plain annoying
@@Matty002 you suspended your disbelief for many other things in this movie, its inherent in all storytelling. im genuinely curious why those would be less annoying
God I miss when animators were allowed to put their heart and passion into movies
I mean, they still do! Spiderverse is a famous example - took them 9 months to animate spider noir iirc (the sequel too).
It might just feel this way due to Disney releasing..their current stuff right now😅😭
@@just_a_silly_weenie008 very fair point! We've had some fantastic animated movies recently, I guess I just miss spectacular 2D animated movies
A lot of indie creators are getting more praise than the big studios. People vote with their wallets now
@@Maribro4Keep in mind half of this movie was CGI. The people were all 2d, but I'm pretty sure most of the sets were 3D.
@@theterrificyoloNo, they don't, because the indie stuff is all being put out for free, with the exception of Hazbin Hotel.
The fact that Kor makes the most jokes during this movie while the others are more subdued is so funny to me. Kor finds a moment to let his Testament knowledge shine and he grabs it by the throat. Man was Not afraid to make some sacriligeous jokes
Finally my chance to use this knowledge for something good
Mmm, sacrilicious...
FUN FACT: apparently in the original tale, Moses had a speech impedment and had his brother do most of the talking for him.
yes for the most part
i'm jewish and i approve
True, I also enjoy to point that fact out as a person who struggles with stammering.
Which makes it even funnier that they cast Jeff Goldblum of all people as the brother in this movie.
Yeah it’s honestly kinda funny how they missed that part. They made Aaron such a nerd in this. The first thing my rabbi said in my Judaism class during the exodus lesson was “have any of you seen the prince of Egypt? Okay, forget everything about it.”
I'm an atheist, and I love this movie. Idec. Dreamworks should've done more of these man. In an alternate universe, dreamworks did the entire bible and moved onto other religious mythologies outside of Christianity, and also did the "The Road to..." series that they planned to as like a side project. We would be eating so good.
Sadly they did a couple more bible stories but without the same talents and an extremely small budget they weren’t very impressive or successful.
In a way though, those attempts falling short only makes The Prince of Egypt stand out that much more as lightning in a bottle. We did get Sinbad though, which wasn’t half bad either and definitely had super impressive animation.
@@sodathejunkerHonestly for a direct to DVD prequel Joseph was pretty good. IMAO I honestly wish Shrek wasn’t as successful cause it completely changed DreamWorks trajectory.
@@thedukeofchutney468 Tbh it would be even better if Shrek made the success he made but DreamWorks noticed that THIS film they did would be an wonderful path instead. I can't imagine a world without Shrek...

I'm suprised that when they showed God the 3 guys didn't instantly burn into ash
Isnt that islam related? Because when allah showed himself he turned an entire Mountain to ash. Not sure if both Christianity and Islam have these things in common

As a Christian, I think this film is a perfect way to show other people the Bible.
As an atheist, I enjoy this movie. To me it is just telling a story and it's doing that in a masterful way. Wish more movies that told religious stories were like that.
@@mrgroovy5113yeah some of my friends who are atheists loved this movie and were invested in it!
It's a amazing movie but does make me think that biblical God isn't that good of an entity 😅
Nah fr it’s amazing since we all knew that people in the Bible were not white!
@kaynekovack5968 In the actual Bible the angel uses a bloody sword. And people wonder why people think Yahweh is a psychopath
The song "Deliver Us" is a banger and so is "The Plagues." To think this was the same company that did "Dadadadadada Afro Circus."
There is also a musical soundtrack with some nice additions, like "Footprints on the Sand."
The fact this channel can go from reacting to Madagascar to The Prince of Egypt in a day.
then Rick and Morty or South Park tomorrow
Well, they WERE made by the same studio.
It´s the dreamworks experience
It’s honestly crazy how stacked the cast of this movie is. Val Kilmer as Moses, Ralph Finnes as Rameses, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, the list goes on!
Michelle Pfieffer! The epic comedy duo of Steve Martin and Martin Short!
Don’t forget my uncle in law who sung the part of Moses!
@@Case2_0 Brian Stokes Mitchell??
It is celebrity fested but everyone did a fucking good job with their roles
I went to a private christian elementary school and they played this movie, this shit was SO fire. Every song is a bop, the animation and style is stunning. It doesn't shove religion down your throat, it's just retelling a bible story. Seriously amazing movie.
This is one of those movies where just everything is incredible. The animation is still unparalleled nearly 30 years later, the entire voice cast is killing it, Hans Zimmer are putting in career best music. Val Kilmer's of course awsome, but Ralph Finnes' Ramses is legitimately one of the best written villain characters ever, let alone in animation.
Try reading the Bible. That's the real life events the script came from.
@@JeremiahWdabullfrog you mean the fictional events
@@Reapler59 Don't let God be the last person to tell you you're wrong.
The animation is so good because the production team knew that god would LITERALLY be watching this...
God Himself was the lead writer of this movie.
This is definitely loved by critics and audiences alike. I could even show this movie to my parents, and they would love it. I’m just saying, if you ever want to play a movie at church, definitely play this one. It’s so authentic.
I mean not really. It’s not really biblically accurate. Moses knew he was a Hebrew his entire life. He wasn’t the pharaoh’s adopted brother. Aaron wasn’t a nerd like he is here.
Maybe it’s different cuz I’m Jewish but the first thing my rabbi said during our exodus lesson was “Has anyone seen the movie The Prince of Egypt?…
Okay forget everything about it.”

As an egyptian and a Christian i can confirm that this movie is absolutely amazing in literally every way possible 10/10
Kor being an absolute fucking know it all geek and nerd about the Bible is so funny
Honestly, it really is the best religious movie as it takes itself seriously without being overly preachy.
Ah "The Prince of Egypt" one of DreamWorks greatest cinematic gems! To this day it's one of my all time favorite retellings of Exodus!!!
And the songs are just so damn, Catchy! And I mean ear worm level catchy!
I love when commentary youtubers react to this! It's criminally underrated
Im sure the animators and writers are so happy that their work holds up in 2024, they really put so much work into this.
12:51 Fun fact: If an animator got in trouble while working on the Prince of Egypt they were transfered to working on Shrek as a Punishment
My favourite sequence in this film is the plagues affecting Egypt, and it shows all the firstborn sons dying, and this also affects Rameses' son and even with all of this torment being brought on Rameses by Moses...he still won't let his people go. Just such a well done sequence.
6:47 i remember that scaring the heck outta me when i first saw it as a kid now it's just magnificent animation
That's pretty much my exact feelings on most of the movie lol

9:58 This is why we should learn Esperanto - pretty much any word can be either a noun, an adjective, a verb or an adverb, depending what vowel it ends in.
For example:
_kato_ "cat"
_kata_ "feline" or "of a cat"
_kate_ "in a feline manner"
_kati_ ... I guess it means... to be a cat?
Ngl, I’m not religious anymore. But this is objectively a good movie lol
This movie is the hardest to rewatch.
The meeting between Moses and Rames 2 after they grow up is so hard to watch knowing what is coming.
DreamWorks and 2D animation are arguably better than their 3D stuff.
I mean, Shrek was funnier tho
@@martind5653 I think I remember someone calling the Prince of Egypt a masterpiece and Shrek a beautiful shitpost... and yea, both check out.
I actually like that they didnt spend much time setting up the romance because it was just a minor part of the movie. You still get the idea of how they grew closer and they needed the screentime for other much more important scenes
Fun fact:
They added the scene of Rhamses spinning Moses’s wig much later into production, because when test audiences saw Moses remove it after he fled into the desert, they thought he’d just scalped himself, so they decided to add a much earlier scene to show that it’s just a wig.
80% of this video: OMG THIS ANIMATION
Valid commentary though
I mean if you watched OG Dreamwork when they did 2D animation, they flat out perfected it even more so then Disney at the time. Sadly they went CGI which, don't get me wrong, a lot of their CGI is just beautiful... but watch their version of Sinbad and you'll realize what we're missing these days.

17:48 as a beyblade fan i can say this is accurate
NOTHING WILL EVER TOP THE PRINCE OF EGYPT DO YOU HEAR ME!!!
I still believe this is the best version of the Exodus story. The picture has actual depth, with many layers of significance and beauty. It is what every animated film should strive to be; it is not about creating toys or fulfilling a financial quota; it is about making a film that can touch the soul and inspire people to achieve great things. The film is a cinematic masterpiece.
There's an unofficial "sequel" to this called Joseph: King of Dreams
It was a straight to VHS movie and the quality absolutely dipped but it'd be fun to see a reaction for such an underrepresented movie
You guys should definitely check out the Joseph movie as well made by Dreamworks, it's also really good.
Also, fun fact, many Egyptians also put lamb's blood over their door so the Angel of Death will Pass Over their door as some converted before-hand.
Glad you guys got a break from the brain rot to experience one of the best 2D movies of all time
Couple cool things about this movie :
Moses mother was Ofra Haza, an Israeli singer, she sang the movies song, “Deliver us” in 17 different languages.
When Moses leaves Egypt for the first time he gets smaller in every shot of him in the desert, showing how large it is as he dissolved in it
At the end, Ramses yelling for Moses across the sea mirrors the first time he left
Who else expected them to be
"He killed thousands of children!"
"Slay!"
They don’t show it in the movie, but the reason Moses is so scared when Ramses is about to say that he’s going to finish what his father started, is because God had just told Moses that the Pharaoh would choose the final plague, and Moses knew he was about to choose to have all the first born killed.
Also, the directors explained that the reason they cut out any of the other times that Moses spoke to God, was because they wanted the burning bush scene to remain special.
I literally grew up with this movie. I'm agnostic and I'll love it no matter what. I was so excited when I saw this video because THE MUSIC IS A BOP!
There's actually a direct video sequel called Joseph King of Dreams that you guys should check out. Ben Affleck voices Joseph.
"You were a baby. There's no way you remember that song."
Sorry for being THAT guy, but actually, there are cases where babies can remember certain things, like songs, even if they're in the womb. Moses does remember that song because when he went to go find Ramses after his father scolds him, Moses is whistling that same song
This was being made at the same time as Shrek and DreamWorks thought this movie would gross a ton so animators who weren't doing good got "Shrecked."
Kor is right lol the specificity of his religious humor really is on point, I wouldn’t have expected him to know or mention Caleb and Sophia from the Jehovah’s Witness videos
13:01 omg superman is literally moses
12:13 In the Bible, He was about 40 years old when he left Egypt, and he came back to Egypt about another 40 years later. In the movie Moses doesn't seem to have aged much at all.
I remember as a kid, my mum used to take me and my sisters to church for a while. she had cancer and it gave her comfort. I personally, hated it. it was so boring, and I struggled not to fall asleep. however, there was 1 thing I looked forward to. After mass was over, me and my sisters could pick something to borrow from the back of the church. my sister never do, but I would borrow the church's VHS copy of The Prince of Egypt.
I'm atheist, and have been since I was around 12 or 13, still love this movie. The animation, the music, the voice acting. It's all amazing
17:00 the way me and my family made the same joke about how a comedic relief character like a snake or a camel in the movie 😭
7:48 😂😂😂😂 The animators.
11:48 Oh my god, that's me! Hi guys lol
Since One Piece is my religion I decided to actually do some math to find out whether the Bible or One Piece is longer, I took someone else's research on average number of words per chapter(1141.95) and extrapolated One PIece's current estimated word count.
With 1114 chapters the current word count for One Piece is approximately 1,272,132 words. To put that in perspective let's get a few more word counts.
A Song of Ice and Fire - 1,736,000 words
The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit - 576,459 words
The Stormlight Archive so far - 1,792,008 words
The Wheel of Time - 4,410,036 words
And finally, The Bible - 783,137 words
So yes One Piece is longer than the bible.
This movie was a direct response to Disney, it was made in a similar artstyle and used similar elements of Storytelling. I love that movie, its just a masterpiece! We need more of these.
1:48 Didn’t Moses’s mom wish him a gentle journey?
I didnt really notice till they pointed it out but they really dont make these slow fable lile stories anymore
That’s very true. I feel like nowadays, sincerity and simplicity is seen as uncomfortable or dull. Every moment has to be followed up with a joke, complexity will mean your story is good, etc. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of movies like that I enjoy, but I just want more variety, you know? I think the last movie by a major studio I’ve seen that felt like that was 2011’s Winnie the Pooh. And we all know how much of a box office failure that was. 😞
7:16 Has Eden been living under a rock 😭
There's a prequel about Joseph. The art direction isn't as good since it was direct to video but it's not bad.

9:43 "40 years in the desert" would have been a better reference.
So...Fun Fact: The Camel was gonna talk when Moses ate some hallucinagenic cactus during the scene where's in the desert, but it was seen as too goofy for the films tone. Steve Martin and Martin Short's characters as Pharoh Advisers and Priests were the compensation for this removal.
