Great episode! I've got to crack my Stag 23C, but was a little disappointed in Stag 22A, very hot but not a lot of character or depth. Ha ha! but I had to keep drinkin' it out of curiousity-must not be too unpleasant, ha ha!
My 23c was a syrupy grape bomb

I have the 23c stagg and its good but really think a standard 1792 full proof is just as good if not better.
I did a blind with Benchmark FP, Stagg and EH Taylor Barrel Proof, and my buddys felt like the two allocated bottles were better but not nearly enough to justify the rediculous hunt for them around here.

I was lucky enough to get the 15th Anniversary bottle and it is absolutely amazing!
I have all these all really great but the key here is dont blind rye against bourbon always bourbon vs bourbon rye vs rye rookies
I think that is what may have thrown everything off for us. We picked up the notes but by the end we were so confused which was the rye. I still find it interesting a rye came in first for me
David's knife struggles were for real here.

I understand why you chose the title that you did, but in my opinion, the Stagg was not "destroyed" by any means. You both mentioned repeatedly that all 4 whiskies were great and that you would gladly drink any of them any day of the week. Unfortunately, the title, "4 whiskies that are all really good" does not attract many viewers.
Appreciate your opinion. I don’t necessarily agree. The blind was eye opening. Tasting all 3, 13th colony before Stagg made it much less impressive when it came to over all mouth feel and richness. David felt sample 4 “lighter and fresher, also saying it fell flat against the other 3”. It was his 4th place. For me I only put it in 3rd bc I liked the vanilla,berries, and cake taste. There was not a comparable mouthfeel which is why I titled it “destroyed”. Doing these blind can be shocking sometimes, any other time I really like Stagg. Have you tried any of these? If you try this line up you may have a different opinion. Thank you for taking the time to comment and can totally understand how that looks. You are also correct “4 whiskies that are all really good” would most likely not have done well. I think I used that a few weeks ago for real though 😂😂😂

It really depends on what Stagg batch you have. 23C is great. 23A and 23B were not as great.
Couldn't score any Stagg in 23. Got all 3 batches in February and March.
Still all bottles not easy to come by ….

Completely get it. There is no way to please all and apologize if this video didn’t relate to you. We live in VA and have issues getting things here. With the channel it does help us tremendously. So you compared stagg to a unicorn bottle? That's not really fair.
We are very grateful when our patrons take the time to send these blinds. Putting a unicorn up against other bottles is actually pretty common. It helps to analyze if a unicorn is really worth hunting or paying the cost comparing to others. Appreciate you taking the time to comment and share your opinion. Cheers 🥃
I have yet to try 13th colony but it's on my list to get hopefully this summer since VABC is always lacking. Any suggestions on what 13th colony I should start with? I love a sweeter more fruity and above all bold flavor whiskey.
Southern bourbon is great
They only have two shelfers: bourbon and rye. Both are good, both are 95 proof. Occasionally there will be a distillery only release down in Americus. Everything else goes inflated on secondary market. I've been fortunate enough to sample a couple of other releases. Both were great.
Any Thirteenth Colony above 120 proof is an automatic buy!

Tastes were fried by the time they got to it. Too much heavy proof and rye punch by the time they got there
Stagg is overrated. Dont get me wrong, its good but the hype/price is not warranted.
It's a what? $50-70 bottle at retail. It's an INSANE $50-70 bottle. Most tubers who get stuff like this mailed to them all day every day say they'll pay $150+ for it. Blinding a $50 bottle that people pay $250 for against a bunch of $200 bottles... the takeaway shouldn't be negative for Stagg... It should be "Wow, this $50 bottle is legitimately competing with bottles 3-4x its price... No WONDER it has a secondary market. 13th Colony is never seen around here, but online... looks like these bottles have their own (Near $1000) secondary... so Frankly if Stagg had won... THAT would have been the upset.
