Very cool of Lars to actually do this and not his tech. Also, it’s great to see all of the love in the comments. The majority of us wouldn’t be drummers without him. Truly one of the best ambassadors for rock and metal.
Love or hate him...I'd like to see drummers pull off master of puppets parts....let me know how that works out for ya....perfect parts..this songs hard to play let alone come up with them parts.!!!!!!
Cant say enough how glad I am Modern Drummer started video rundowns, these were always my favorite parts of the magazines. I loved seeing and learning everybodys setups, what they played, why they played them. It was, still is, so fascinating to me
It's so cool that Lars turned up by himself with no roadie and speaks in great detail about his kit. It shows he knows about drums and doesn't depend on someone else to speak about his drum equipment like Chad Smith did. Thanks, Modern Drummer for another great Tour Kit Rundown video.
@@heartbeatsdrum King Nothing did it for me, that sight of him playing in the snow was so cool. But the Roam is great as well, especially when he does that one-hand snare fill leading up the chorus and holds the other arm up! That was rad.
So good guys!! Its rare we get to see or hear Lars show or speak about his kits. This is fantastic. Thanks Modern Drummer and Thanks Lars!!! You Rule!!!
That’s so cool that he took the time to do the drum tour! Without Lars there would be no Metallica, that’s all I’m saying. And this tour is HUGE! What a production!
F**k all the haters and the ones who don't get what Lars is about and talk s**t about him and Metallica. Lars and Metallica are innovators and living legends! You gotta love Lars and Metallica... \m/\m/

great to hear lars talk about his drums, it’s not always that we get « drummer » lars interviews, he always talks about the band rather than his instrument. thanks modern drummer ❤️
best drummer in the world for me. is he the best drummer in the world? no, but he made me want to play drums as a kid. i am a drummer because of you lars!
Love Lars! On a non related Metallica, Lars note. Hope you guys do a Tour Kit Rundown with Mike Portnoy since he's back with Dream Theater. I also love the stage Metallica has here, the way he's explaining the rotating kits and stuff, pretty cool.
They augment the live sound - they don't replace it. Also they can be used for gating purposes. Thirdly - this is a year ago - the tom microphones have now indeed moved inside the drums themselves.
@@DavidOakesMusicyeah, they were used just for gating the toms when Big Mick was at FoH. I'm not sure if they're using them to trigger sounds now, though it would help with consistency between the four drum kits.
This is the ultimate kit run down I was waiting for!! Going to see Metallica in Toronto and at Sonic temple festival in 2025. Great interview David and modern drummer ! 🤘
if you play just quarter notes on an open hihat while standing and 70.000 people sing the melody of the song for minutes then your job as a drummer is done perfectly. this guy is the only drummer who can accomplish that. i hope someday most of the drummers can see the things by this view too. great video!
Very cool and very instructive! Despite driving me crazy with his drumming for the past 10 years, Lars is the reason I started playing drums, and I will always be a fan.
Finally someone notices this, i swear this guy knows nothing about drums and is the fakest person ever and heres an example, in charlie benante's kit rundown when charlie was talking about his roland triggers and how he blends his ACOUSTIC DRUM with the TRIGGERED vinnie sound David said "oh you must really depend on these triggers" even after hearing that he blends the two sounds and he could play the set without them charlie still had to correct him. And during Danny Carey's kit rundown he kept on sucking up to danny for no reason and when danny was talking about the song "chocolate chip trip" David for some reason said, "is that another thing we have in common, we both liek chocolate chip cookies" he sounded like a teenager trying to find things they and their crush have in common.
@@noahthedrummer5150Danny Carey said the song was named that because they were eating so many chocolate chip cookies in the studio. They were literally talking about eating chocolate chip cookies.
It's so easy to hate on Lars because of his playing style, his toothpick and damn bathrobes and i do that a lot, but I love hearing the man speak passionately about his drums and not sending a drumtech to do these video's. He deserves a lot of credit, he seems like a great guy.
Definitely cool seeing one on him, love his drumming and the kits he’s playing are just as badass. Definitely looking forward to seeing them in Toronto next year, it’s gonna be great
Wow, pleasantly surprised to see Lars featured! I know he gets a lot of hate, but Lars is quite an important drummer in the evolution of metal drumming. Never forget that.
i completely understand what lars means by consistency with coated heads. I have a sound that I like to achieve and I use a lot of different drum sets. honestly man it's those Remo emperor coated heads that always achieve that sound no matter what kit im playing. other drum heads are consistent in their own way, but for the sound that I like myself, emperor coated
I’ve been drumming since 1993. Lars, Bill Ward, Dave Lombardo and Mick Harris all got me to dive head first at the age of 16. 🤘🏻 Impressive having consistency between 4 drum kits. Thank you for this video!
man, what a great video! I know lars was talking about having that clean look throughout the kit, but I cant help but think that the chrome hardware stands out like a sore thumb. I wonder why he doesn't run black hardware like he had on his white Tama kit.
Companies need to bring back towering, counter-weighted boom stands with those great lumps of iron on the end. Loved them back in the 80s and 90s although a bugger to gig with 😀
Excellent Office Lars Ulrich.☝️🎼🥁🎼👍 Lars' drum kit is simple but it's great. I understand that the snare that our Lars uses is the most expensive or one of the most expensive ones from Tama. Exactly like the circular stage, so that different people can see Lars up close, the stage is designed with different drumkits that rise hydraulically. Lars' technicians must definitely be well paid.
So glad he asked about the triggers! Was shocked Lars didnt have his tech do it. Great video! I just wanna know if he is playing the whole show to a click
HEADBANGERS BALL BABY!! 80'S was the best music ever! Again, I hope to see Tommy Aldridge, Deen Castronovo and Kelly Keagy on theses tour kit rundowns. If Lars Ulrich's timing is bad, I hope my timing is bad because it has sure made him millions of dollars, HATERS!
I never clicked on a video so fast 🤩
