Charlie is the man for the job. No doubt about it. Mad respect to him for being such a consistent, and incredible drummer for longer than I've been alive. The man is a machine! 🙏🥁
Charlie having that moment where he misses his friends at 9:45 is beautiful. Shows us just how human these guys are and how important it is to commemorate their music. To all the people complaining about this being Pantera reunion or not just think about whats going on through their heads when playing Pantera music. Let's be grateful for all this an leave the negativity im your pocket.
It's not Pantera, obviously, but they are still doing their thing and I wouldn't mind hitting up a show sometime if I get the chance. Also, regardless if it's "Pantera" or not it doesn't change the fact that it's 4 legendary musicians performing together and I have to say judging by all the live clips I have watched they are doing a pretty good job so far!
I had the honor of attending the show in Austin, TX last year on Dime's birthday. They kicked ass and at one point they paused the show and brought up a bunch of friends and family to do a shot for Dime. It really was great being able to hear those songs live again.
Charlie himself threw me a drumstick after finishing cowboys from Hell during Metallica‘s Detroit Michigan show. He threw it directly at me. He pointed to me and then threw it and I caught it and it’s hanging in my room right now, one of my biggest prized possessions love the man he’s a machine.
I heard every single drum he hit and cymbal when Pantera was here in Winnipeg Feb 16th 2024! I have never been to seen Pantera before, but this show blew me away! Thank you so much for ALL you do to keep Vinnie and Dimebag alive in our very hearts!!!! Love you always!!! Forever a fan!!! 💀
Everyone uses triggers to gate their drums nowadays (which is awesome) but I was not expecting him to be using them for actual samples! Beautiful touch having Vinnie’s samples mixed in with the organic shells.
This has got to be the most wholesome respectful set up I've ever seen, I love how Charlie is keeping Vinnie on stage in his choice of sizes and blending the sound. Amazing drummer and friend
Saw the show at Rocklahoma last September (2023). It was awesome to hear and see all these great Pantera songs played again. Charlie is killing it on this tour. 🤘 Getcha Pull. Watch It Go!!! 333
The cool thing about CB is he's humble and not trying to replace Vinnie at all! Instead, making sure to honor him and his sound as a big part of the original Pantera. Awesome job continuing the legacy of the band and especially the Abbott bros!
The drum sound he gets for the intro to Indians, has to be most punishing and fullest metal beats of all time. Its perfect in every way, flawless. The whole song just wails.
Charlie and the boys did a heartfelt and fitting job honoring Vin and Dime when I saw them last week. You can tell they really mean it. I'd definitely go to another show if they come around again. Getcha pull!
Charlie and Nicko have been my all time favorite drummers since the ‘80’s. Iron Maiden and Anthrax have always been my favorite bands. And I’m 50 years old. Love Charlie!!!!
Great interview! I love you, man. You guys sound awesome. Your drumming is so good. Also, I've lost a best friend and what you guys are doing in tribute is truly amazing. Wish you all the best and keep on playing those Pantera songs we all love!
Damn straight. I remember hearing Among The Living for the first time back in '88 and I thought, Jesus... who is this guy! And he was like in his early 20's then. I saw them '89 and I was transfixed on the drums all night. He was a machine!
This drumkit is beautiful!! Saw them in the Metallica tour and they were amazing in getting out the spirit of Pantera out and I'm glad I saw them!! Definitely won't mind seeing them again!!
Just went and listened to The Persistence of Time again, thanks Charlie for all the excellence! You and Bombardo set the bar very high for all aspiring Percussionists of the era.
I was fortunate to watch Pantera open for Metallica just last month in Seattle and I must say Charlies kit sounded great. As a drummer I had a lot of respect for his style and picked of some of his techniques by just listening to Anthrax when I was a teen. I was floored when I learned It was him drumming for Pantera. Rock on Charlie! Thanks for the inspiration!
I've been saying it for 40+ years Charlie Benante is the best thrash drummer on the planet.... one of the best all-round drummers on the planet, any genre. Great interview and overview.... thank you!!
@@LeadMe2TheBliss Anthrax is the 2nd best thrash band of the Big 4 and are currently working on a new album (with Charlie, since he writes all the music)... and they have a tour planned when all members are free from their side projects (including Charlie) ..... try and keep up. He even says that in the video.
Getcha pull charlie. He sounded fkn amazing in arlington. Before the tour started i knew he had permission to use samples from vinnie's estate but i though it was for intro stuff not triggers. Good to know.
Great interview with one of the true GOAT's, who is playing another sorely missed GOAT's music every night. That must feel very surreal. It's one thing to play in a tribute band, but to actualy be THE band, not the tribute, is, I'm sure, a very emotional experience. It's pretty obvious that's the case just in the way he talks about the gig. Charlie, you've always been one of my top 10 influences, in my own playing style. I learned a lot from you my man. You've absolutely helped to make me a bettr drummer, just like Vinnie did. When I heard you were the man that would be driving this absolutely incredible lineup, I knew it was going to be special. I can think of no other players carrying the torch for Pantara, than you and Zack. Absolutey perfect fit, on and off the stage. You guys are really doing it right too. The amount of respect, and love you guys are pumping into these songs, is palpable. Kudos to the entire band for giving us this wonderful gift. Thank you so much for doing, what I'm sure at times, is a very difficult thing to do. I don't know much at all about the relationship, if any, you had with Vinnie, but even if you never met the guy, I'm sure it is at times, very emotionally taxing. I know there's obviously high points, Of course there are, you're in freakin PANTARA! How could that NOT be a huge rush? You're filling those incredible, and intimidating shoes so well man. It's a testament to your experience, and skill level, that you wear those shoes, with confidence, and pride, but also love and respect. You're the man, man. lol
Charlie has always been my favourite metal drummer, cos of him I've played a novo China since the late 80s. And I love the novo as much as he does 👌🤘🤘😁
hi charlie. my name is robert. that's an awesome drum set you are using. i love the paiste cymbals. they are my all time favorites. i am using paiste cymbals in my kiss tribute band alive 35
Grew up listening to Charlie. State of Euphoria is still one of my favorites. He’s the reason I got away from lars when i realized Charlie was so much better as a drummer
There's no other man who could have filled those shoes like Charlie. He has everything Vin did down to a "T" and St. Vin is smiling down sayin Hellyeah brother!
Nice to see I'm not alone in miking my snare drum with a 58! I've been wondering if anyone else does the same. I sometimes wonder if people are so hung up on the labels of a 58 being a vocal mic, and a 57 being an instrument mic, that they don't even bother to try it. I bet a lot of people would be surprised if they actually tried it out.
Charlie is a fantastic drummer. He was the first guy that came to my mind as a good fit when I heard there was going to be a Pantera reunion. He carries Vinnie's torch with great skill and respect.
I was thinking his kit had an Alex Van Halen vibe with the extra bass drums, Alex had some wild kits, what Charlie's missing is a fire extinguisher, Alex always kept one on his kit in case the pyro got out of hand.
I saw them last week and when they opened with A New Level it was just like I was listening to 101 Proof live with that snare sounding like a fucking shotgun blast.
Charlie is the man for the job. No doubt about it. Mad respect to him for being such a consistent, and incredible drummer for longer than I've been alive. The man is a machine! 🙏🥁
But he can't write a different tune
A machine ....that depends on other machines. Lame.

@leadme2thebliss21 Catch a show man, caught them in Tampa a few weeks back and was not disappointed. Don't get hung up on the "name"
Totally with you there about him honouring his friends Dime and Vince. You can definitely could see Charlie meant that 100%
I felt that moment. It was deep.
I had the honor of attending the show in Austin, TX last year on Dime's birthday. They kicked ass and at one point they paused the show and brought up a bunch of friends and family to do a shot for Dime. It really was great being able to hear those songs live again.
Seeing Charlie have a moment at 9:45 remembering his close friends. 😢 youre doing em proud dude!
I got sad on that part to 😢
It sure brings the $$.

Kickass! I was at the show!
I have some great stuff from 7dust.Sticks,guitar pics, signed bass head and some signed cd’s.My guys right there.Metallica signed tom head

Charlie is not only a great (and underrated) drummer, but he's also just a GREAT GUY!
Underrated?? 😁🤨
He gets enough attention
Thank you Charlie, for over 40 years of badass thrashing with Anthrax and for keeping the Abbott bros’ legacy alive 🤘🏼🤘🏼

Tbh you can’t even hear it live. Their sound is such a mess when they open for Metallica
@@jd0879man, when I seen them in St. Louis, Pantera/Mammoth/Metallica all sounded excellent from the seats I was in!
How dealed them with the latency ? Is there like more latency with the triggers ?
Sorry dumb from a home guitarist :p
He is turning 62 this year... Goddamn! \m/
And he look like 50 "top"
Wow, yeah I’d of thought mid 40s.
Plays like 22 forreal. Probably better now than he ever was and he was elite from Spreading The Disease.
He kooks 40. And plays like hes 24

Vinny can't be replaced it science..
Can't wait to hear watch/hear this live in two days in Quebec! I've been waiting for this show since they announced the reunion/tribute tour.
Don’t forget that Charlie is a beast guitar player and writes most of Anthrax’s riffs. Just a crazy talented dude.
The drum sound he gets for the intro to Indians, has to be most punishing and fullest metal beats of all time. Its perfect in every way, flawless. The whole song just wails.
I play that intro almost every time i practice. Powerful!

A lot of love went into this kit to make it sound like Vinnie's. Charlie did his homework with this. Absolute great guy. 🤘🏻

This dude does not get nearly enough credit he deserves in the world of metal drumming. He changed the game.
