I served Jimmy at the restaurant I work at a few months ago. He ended up giving me a couple tickets to the SP show the next night. Turns out they were backstage passes and I said hey to him after the show and he remembered my name. Super nice guy

It'll start to change. The pumpkins can't stay our best kept secret much longer...
Plus, look at the longevity and sales and his /their pretty near-consistent support in Rolling Stone Magazine, I don't know why I still pay attention but I do, and I noticed they gave write-ups to not only the GLOW single but for the near b-side one-off guitar center car commercials Zeitgeist b-side leftover song "for our love" which I think is officially just titled "FOL"
And then they even printed about the (now failed, let's just say ... abandoned, it's more polite) teargarden project ... he could SO EASILY have gotten to the damn 44 songs.... I get . So. Damn. Frustrated. With. Billy. Sometimes...
But fuck. That's just it. Innit? That passion. That I care. WHY DO I Care? 🤷
Or maybe this all just looks like Greek to you because this is just a drummer on a drum page for a drum company repping a drum magazine. Btw, do you Drum, dude?
I was just gonna point out, with the RS magazine 'influence' that unless WPC (and that's the same as BC for those who aren't idolizers of Billy Corgan as I am- j/k I believe in our one and only Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 🙏❤️) has made a brutal lifelong enemy of the judges or panel or however the fuck is voted on that I do believe the Smashing Pumpkins will soon be inducted into the Rock and roll hall of fame.
Which, aside from fans having to pay about 💯 bux more per ticket from then on out... will go ahead and give em a massive bump in profile and cultural consciousness/relevance. I. Theorize ...
      OR
      if you're AN ACTUAL drummer,
      AND YOU KNOW
CAN'T GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT THE PUMPKIN KINGS HAMMER 🎃 🔨
MAYBE you're here because of whatever other project you know him from- what's his name? Jordan?
      Catalano?
(because I know he's an actual series musician unlike most garage rock bands I listen to) Jimmy Even has all these amazing jazz albums, a couple of which I have heard in full, and a couple I even liked, one of which I even enjoyed enough to buy.
I swear I didn't even know Billy Corgan sang on one of the songs when I bought it... I'm like .. I swear.😢
And I would actually pay HARD EARNED $
      To see him live, anytime.
      Forever.
What's that? It's an album of him farting on a snare drum!?
WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT
like I'd buy a ticket to see him play SOLO
OR maybe the stick in his hand isn't a drum stick but.... AYO! COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
or IF Jimmy is doing a clinic
      Or a drum off.
Like a competition or hosting something or even just an MC
But you know something small and intimate and local ... Like, oh I don't know, say like, a guitar sent you that maybe sort of happens to be downtown Brooklyn in the basement of a shopping mall or something like that.... yeah.... shruggs
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
even if Jimmy is to be on stage
Drumming with ANYONE else at all,
      I'll be there.
but you know, it's not like I'm throwing those jazz records on my st-
      Wait...
      like....
      Oh shit.
. I don't even have a stereo anymore. And I call myself a musician!? (Actually I never do what other people do call me a musician all the fucking time and I hate it I'm really more of an artist and a producer and hopefully maybe you'll think I'm a fucking bad comedian too!!)
      That being said:
What is technology doing to us ?
      May I ask!?
Am I allowed to say that?
      Here?
      Will I get banned?
I moved to a different... ok you don't need my life story. This is a rant enough
      .
      But I will say:
I remember in 2008 when Billy Corgan said "the whole world's gone iPhone crazy!"
. before "cray" was a thing, or I'm sure he would have said that, because he didn't actually say it, he wrote it down, but anyway I digress. . .
      I was GONNA say
"Ya know I don't throw his jazz records on MY IPOD"
HAHAHA how fucking dated is that.
Omg I should do standup comedy
(I mean, I really SHOULDN'T. Which of course means) I probably will.
Anyways, absolutely love you Jimmy! You're the best
You're the Neil Peart of my generation...
Every now and then I'll hear people mumbling and murmuring about Travis Barker or, who's that... you know .. who I'm talking about... whatever his name is.... for tool ..
Ok, what's his name ... is it Danny?
      Is it ADAM? WTF
      Yeah whatever that guy.
He ain't got NOTHING on Jimmy.
And since they're both bald and all .. every year I have this fantasy... especially with James having played with Maynard etc... and the whol Pumpkins → Halloween thing
(He did partake to dress up like the Beatles on Halloween too right? He was there that night playing with them right when they dressed up as the Beatles... WHts that field?
Dodgers? That's Brooklyn... I mean LA... Rogers? Field?
      Rodger Dodger field....?
      THEY WERE OPENING FOR KISS
O.MFG I CANT FINISH MY THOUGHTs
I just want tool to be SP for Halloween one year
And my fantasy 😇 is the same year SP will dress up as TOOL that year and they'll each play covers shows... or like , I dunno do a whole co-headline thing. Imagine the gimmicky press and even angrier fans.
You mix those alt metal with the alt alt crowd and Whoooo you think you saw some smouldering trash cans burn at Woodstock 99?
Well let me tell you, if Smashing Pumpkins starts making fun of Tool God's going to set this world on fire
I mean, the fans will probably riot.
But IT WOULD BE PRETTY FUCKIN FUNNY 😅

guitar center on Clark and Belmont and going downstairs to look at some kits . I was checking out some cymbals and accidentally bumped into a guy … I turned to apologize and there was Jimmy , geeking out in gear just like all drummers . He knew I knew who he was by my expression and introduced himself. He was so down to earth and really nice ,answered my questions and just was so kind and easygoing. Jimmy is and has always been just extraordinary. I got to work for a band at a show at Double Door years ago that was opening for Zwan and stood behind Jimmy's kit for a second and just marveled at it. Honestly, the thing that was so cool to see was how compact it was. Every possible space was used and nothing seemed far away to get to. It was great to look at.
Years later I had a practice space at The Music Garage and stopped in to get some drum mount. I'm a guitar player but dabble in playing drums and met Vic and he and I talked for a good half hour. He took me around the whole shop, gave me answers to any of the many questions that I had, showed me the practice spaces he had upstairs and then he and I chatted about the Chicago music scene. That man is a wizard when it comes to his drum knowledge. When I saw that he was Jimmy's drum tech recently I went, "Yep. That's perfect."
    Awesome video, guys.

He is the most precise, technically advanced drummer I've ever heard. He has a style that is completely his own.
He also has an inredible intellect, and the ability to communicate ideas in such an authentic + meaningful, yet straightforward way.

@@JT-nd6qp I had not heard that, but given Billy's musical abilities it is not surprising. I've heard that other bands have done similar things - e.g. in the early 80s Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee would program drum machine parts while they were composing demos, and then let Neil listen to it. In some cases, he would try to duplicate the parts they had programmed. Of course, what got recorded in the studio didn't sound like a computer - it sounded like Neil. And Jimmy always sounds like Jimmy. He has a unique sound on the kit that is very recognizable (at least for drummers). McCartney and Ringo are another example like this. Ringo was also immediately recognizable on the kit, even if he was playing something that Paul asked for.

to be able to play fast and yet hit lighter is not easy at all...which I am guessing is what happens when one approaches this instrument from a jazz type perspective. love it.

Super insightful video! Always found Jimmy's playing to be much more sophisticated than his peers, a lot of hihat chicks going behind every groove and superb dynamic control. The jazz is undeniable!
Also super exciting to hear Vic go through the pieces. It's sometimes taken for granted, but playing drums requires us to build our instrument around and according to our bodies! It's such a uniquely personal experience, and hearing how Vic solved the spatial challenges is very relevant to my own thoughts about my kit.
    Great stuff!

Such an inspiration to me! We actually talked for a bit in the parking lot, behind the venue, after the show, during the "long hair and dresses" era, in Gainesville, FL. Probably 1993. Have practiced along, as best I could, and it's been a blast! Love ya Jimmy!

Man, I gotta get back to listening to some pumpkins again. This guy knows his stuff. His top toms are genius really. Big tom, small tom big tom essentially surrounding the top edge of the snare, very ergonomic and smart imo.

I didn't know John Hamm was such a monster drummer.
Jimmys my favorite of all time, I love Billy and the various band mates and substitutes over the years, but jimmy is the most complete and natural musician foundational to the band and essential to the sound and feeling of the band. I think he pushes and pulls the best out of Billy. Billy could lead any band and be interesting enough for me to check out but jimmy makes it all ...make sense. I will always aspire to reach Jimmy's purity and fluidity in expression and technique. Beautiful monster.

You know, the Grunge era had some great drummers. When you consider that in the early 90s all these guys were in their prime and playing out constantly, you realize just how spoiled we were. Everyone always talks about Grohl, whose great and all but they forget there were plenty others just as good.
For steady groove: Alfredo Hernandez (Kyuss, Qotsa)
Impeccable taste: Mark Pickerel (Screaming Trees)
    Versatility: Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins)
For when you want a part in 15/8 to sound natural: Matt Cameron.

1:33 - Tristessa - PLEASE???? I'm a Kalamazoo MI music "scene" dude from the early 90s. Pumpkins were our hometown heroes (Urge Overkill, too. Chi-town, Baby!) I heard Gish for the first time in 1991 (I think I got Gretchen from King's X at the same time) and the snare riff in Tristessa blew my head off. Between Jimmy Chamberlin, Matt Cameron, and John Stanier - I was going to drop the bass guitar and start playing drums, but I was broke and already had my niche with the bass. What an amazing performance! The whole album is mesmerizing. Thanks, Jimmy! You are more appreciated than you know.
