Thank you for this video! My boyfriend and I live in China and the pollution is horrible. His beard is so dry so I'm excited to use your tips to see if it will begin to flourish.
I had pretty bad beard dandruff and rash, started using cerave lotion after a water wash in the morning followed with tacrolimus. At night I would use either nizoral shampoo or head and shoulders shampoo, then a conditioner I leave in for 5 minutes then wash out, then cerave lotion, and then a little beard oil that has no fragrances or essential oils.
Also I only use cold water or lukewarm if I'm showering, my beard hair is much stronger and doesn't fall out anymore and I don't have a rash or dandruff like before.
If u think about they never had beard supplements back in 60's or 70's or 80's u gotta think about it what were people putting in there beard back then? That's my question
I would recommend shampooing daily. Just use like a dime size amount of an organic beard shampoo. Afterwards Apply a beard or organic coco or mango butter. Comb or brush it through. If you do it once a day you’ll see dramatic changes in about a week . and a half. I recommend staying away from oils if you have a dryness problem. I’d would highly recommend staying away from an oil. Your hair produces it naturally and it’s in the wash and butter. Less is more
Don’t think this is correct at all. I do agree with beard washing with a gentle beard wash daily, or at least 5 times a week on days you sweat/work/get the beard dirty. This part is fine. However you should absolutely be using oils. High quality beard oils are super important and if you have a dryness problem there are specific oils that will help with that. Your beard pulls your sebum oil away from your face, as your beard gets longer your face will typically get itchier and you’ll have worse dandruff. Oils like castor oil, hemp seed oil, rice bran oil, vitamin e oil, jojoba oil, Argan oil etc will keep your face smooth and nourish your skin/beard hairs. Oil is good, just make sure you get an oil blend that fits dry skin rather than oily skin.
Indeed, I use the "Shea Moisture" line of beard products and they've been great! However, I would agree that using HOT water will dry it out and I only use luke warm/warm water to cleanse mines. Great info my brother and GOD BLESS YOU!👌🏾👍🏾✊🏾💯

Thanks for the video. So if you wash your beard 2-3 times a week. what happens on the other days, do you abstain from water touching it? Should you wet it everyday?
You should wash a beard every day. It just depends on the degree of washing you do. You only need to really do deep cleansing every other day. But it really depends on what you're washing with. Most soap/shampoo simply suck. It's just chemicals designed to temporarily coat your hair with something to make it shiny. He's wrong when he talks about natural oils being stripped. That's not the issue, your body readily makes tons of oils every day. The issue isn't drying out, the issue is many soaps coat the skin in something that never completely washes off. So you end up with oil remaining on your skin for too long, encased and filling your pores with these dry residues, keeping your natural oils from escaping your pores. Most soaps, especially cheap ones, are closer to dishwashing/laundry detergent, in bar form. That's NOT actually soap in the traditional sense. REAL soap isn't JUST a surfactant. Real soap reacts and binds with things. Real soap is things like fat/oil/charcoal based soap. The rise of consumerism has replaced soap with artificial chemicals that don't do the same things as classic soap. And they do that because it's simply cheaper for their bottom line of making money. Surfactants do not bind to things, but rather, push things apart by lowering the surface tension of water. It's similar in appearance to how real soap operates, but it isn't the same process as there is no binding that goes on. And most surfactants in use are artificial chemicals, not natural. Now here's the real secret, other than sulfate free shampoo/conditioner (which is more for softening hair rather than moisturizing it), one of the best bar soaps one should be using is castile soaps, because they are a vegetable oil based soap, and works great for daily beard washing. They clean quick and great, while keeping the skin oiled. If you've ever washed with the typical cheap brands of bar soap without scrubbing, you'll typically still feel oil on your skin even after rinsing, even after letting it sit a while before rinsing. This is because it's a surfactant, root word: Surface. It only affects primarily the surface, it does not react to get deep down to clean, because it doesn't bind with anything. With castile soap, you don't even need to scrub, you can just hand rub the soap on, rinse after a few seconds, and ALL the oily feel will be gone. THIS is real deep down CLEANSING that will actually open your pores and get bacteria out of them. The brand I use is called "Kirks". Also, stay away from the scented soaps. Most of them are only scented to hide the fact that they aren't actually cleaning you. Rather, the scent is meant to bind to dirt and oils to cover up odors, rather than to remove it entirely. If it's made to make odors stick to you, it's going to make dirt stick to you too. It's like spraying a pile of crap with febreeze.....there's still a pile of crap under there. This is terrible for skin/hair, because it only keeps things on your skin/hair as a buffer, things that will draw moisture from your skin/hair. Don't confuse hair softening conditioners with moisturized either. What it's doing has nothing to do with moisturization. Typically all they do is coat your hair in some slick material that has microscopic bits of silicon in it. In effect, your hair feels softer/smoother because your hair is basically covered in microscopic bits of bouncy/soft silicon that changes the feel. It does protect hair from abrasion, it does make it look shiny, but it is not moisturizing hair. Just like lotion doesn't actually moisturize, what it really does is coat the surface of skin with something that will trap in any moisture your skin naturally releases, forcing it to stay on the skin. But your hair does not release moisture/oils, rather, your hair wicks oil along its surface from your skin. So coating your hair in something does not moisturize it, it's impossible to moisturize hair, only to make hair feel softer/smoother by surface coatings, be that oil or silicon or whatever else.
My main issue is finding trusted brands in the beard care scene. There’s so many flooding the market that might be pure crap. Then even big names that you get in other markets for hair and skin make their own products. I have no idea which is good! I just saw a beard moisturiser for £25 on Amazon. Never heard of the brand. Reviews on that site are trash. Do I take a punt and potentially waste money? It’s tough.

The higher the water temperature the cauterizing all pores, so beard stops growing and sprouting out of the sealed skin. So people keep at believing there are bearded and no bearded guys. Same damage as in scalp hair receiving hot or demi-boiling water.
I disagree with not using hot water to wash. Hot water opens your pores up and helps with exfoliating and gets the “gunk” out of your pores of your skin. Then you forgot about beard conditioner. And I also agree with cold water at this point. I say dry your beard first then apply beard oil and then apply cold water. Cold water does the opposite of hot water, it closes your pores in your skin up and more oil goes on your beard and less in the pores of your skin. The beard oil is more for your skin not the beard itself. The beard butter and or balms are for the beard itself.
Yup EXACTLY ! I’m with that too bro i use up warm water to open up the pores then add Jamaican Oil Every Night Before Bed And It’s Been WORKING VERY WEELL!!!👍🏽✅
Hey B! I recently started using the Scotch Porter Brand. In regards to only using the beard wash once or twice a week, can I use the Scotch Porter conditioner as a daily cowash? Or should I use the conditioner only after using the Scotch Porter beard wash and use something else as a daily cowash between washings? Thanks for the great content!

Because even though we’re not supposed to wash our beard everyday we wash our faces everyday and it seems like what I wash my face with drys out my beard...but it’s hard because I have oily skin so I need something that will get rid of that oil but it dries out my facial hair smh I’m just out of options here

I've double lathered for a long time, single lather honestly never seems to go well, wash always acts super watered down and doesn't like to lather. The second time though it works well.
I took your previous advice about using apple cider vinegar I just tweaked it a little bit and scrub it with the hard side of the brush in a circular motion. I’ve had much success no more ingrown hairs for the first time in 13 years!
I don’t know if anyone asked this question yet, Since it’s better to wash our beard 1-2 times a week, are we supposed to rinse our beard everyday or wait until the next wash?
Hello I just bought the beard kit what order do you go in? Wash, condition, hydrate then oil or ? Been growing my beard for a while now and It's gotten dry and brittle at times
Getting your beard wet while washing your face is inevitable, however it's not necessary to lather your beard up with product every time you wash your face.
Oils and balms are typically moisturizers, not hydrators. Moisturizers seal the hair shaft and don't allow hydration in, and when used alone, they can lead to a dryer beard. Hydration is what gives your beard softness.True hydration comes from water, water based products, or aloe based products. It also comes from staying hydrated internally.
What if I’m dealing with some slight beard acne? Trying to keep it clean but don’t ant to over wash and damage . I have a fairly brittle beard because I don’t wanna go cray with oils and butters because since my breakout they seem to be causing more problems! I need help.. I took the hot humid weather into account and think that it playing some role. I wash with Detroit grooming almost daily and follow with their co wash few times a week .. I got the deep exfoliation and still having trouble with painful red bumps on my jawline. I have never dealt with acne and I am bout 7 months deep into my first long beard journey? I know hair is different but any pointers or recommendations I’d love to hear it! Great beard by the way!
Great information thank you so much for the 411 I use La Roche posay facial wash on my beard, but is there a particular brand of oil and beard wash that you recommend? Thank u
So I read somewhere that beards don’t protect from UV rays so I put sunscreen on my beard. So that means I was washing my beard everyday and it became dry. Thoughts??

2. Wrong product
3. Double lather
4. Hot water

What type of beard shampoo and conditioner do you prefer? I use VO5 but that is for the hair. I don't believe it's for the beard...

How do you wash your face without washing your beard?
Getting your beard wet while washing your face is inevitable, however it's not necessary to lather your beard up with product every time you wash your face.
👀
Your beard is great. I’ve got a white man’s beard 😂 but yours is one of the best beards I’ve ever seen.
Any good mustache washes?
How does adding oil to a dry beard make it dryer?
Oils and balms are typically moisturizers, not hydrators. Moisturizers seal the hair shaft and don't allow hydration in, and when used alone, they can lead to a dryer beard. Hydration is what gives your beard softness.True hydration comes from water, water based products, or aloe based products. It also comes from staying hydrated internally.
@@BlackMensBeard gotcha!! Appreciate the info bro
Great Video, I wish these were things I knew in the beginning to! Also love your beard!
Appreciate it man! Glad I could be of some help!
When you say wash, do you mean adding water to beard in general? Like no water or soap at all on your beard but once or twice a week
Are you aloud to use normal face moisturiser on your beard? Or does it affect your growth.
Always something to learn. 💥👊🥃🎩
Can I use black soap??

So I read somewhere that beards don’t protect from UV rays so I put sunscreen on my beard. So that means I was washing my beard everyday and it became dry. Thoughts??
Follow up you shampoo with a conditioner. I would also add a leave-in conditioner to the regimen.
