My method for a wiry grey beard like mine is to pat it with a towel after showering, but don't dry it. Add beard oil, then use a heated brush. Works great for me. Every beard is different, but I love my soft, smooth silver.
I wish barber's would know about this. 90% barber's I encountered just straight up do the same style on everyone. I like to call it setsquare beard. Short sidebeard, no neckbeard. Unless I specifically tell them to NOT cut it cause I want full long beard they always do it. Forgot about this last time and said to my barber that I want to shorten it a bit so it looks fuller. Now my sidebeard and neckbeard is basically gone. Well... 2-3 months of grows went down the drain. Keep safe folks. Make sure you and your barber have the same vision for your beard
hey man!! I agree somewhat with the trimmed stache but the stache is all about personal preference. IMO having a trimmed stache gives the beard a much cleaner finish. Same with the neck beard Ive tryed leaving the neckline untrimmes and it works but IMO thats personal prefenence. I think these tips apply to people that want the biggest beard possible and dont care about how it looks.
Hey man, absolutely - and this is only my opinion and if anyone does different, it doesn't mean they are doing it wrong. Great point on the angle - this is definitely coming at it from growing the biggest and longest beard (definitely should have mentioned that at the start). When I'm rocking a shorter beard I do everything you've mentioned too.
I definitely recommend Bull dog beard oil and shampoo. The difference on how my beard feels without them is unruly. $5-10 State side. Oil lasts two months with a long beard. 6 months with a short beard. Shampoo would be a bottle every month or two.
This man is a vital role model for me and my beard growing journey! The video explains a lot of mistakes I still make with my beard…although I’m only 20 😂 Keep the videos coming Daniel, you’re an awesome inspiration my friend!
Hey man, just remember that you must do what works for you. These are my very humble opinions. If you're trying to grow a big long beard, I know this will help.
He is totally right: Overtrimming ist one of the biggest issus. Whenever I have the idea to put the growing beard into a cleaner shape, I end up cutting of way too much. Also the neckbeard thing: 100% true
About time I get a trim. My beard reached 6 months, kinda as long as yours in this. I use this beard and face wash, then beard and face lotion, then beard oil and beard balm. I put the excess lotion and oil on my head hair. I believe they are all under the same brand, though different from what you use. When I did my yeard, I used NO beard wash, lotions or oils. BIG MISTAKE! I was young and poor back then. I have no intention of doing another yeard, but having proper maintenance is amazing.
My beard is approaching 2 years now. When I first started and got tips on RUclips it was all trim the neck and the cheeks, but I found that my neck doesn't even grow that low. It stays at right about the adam's apple. The cheeks. The first time I tried to trim that and make that line, I messed it up so bad that I shaved my whole beard off and started over. Now I don't even touch it really. I did just once, but it just grows naturally with a natural line there. There's really no need to trim it. (I think I trimmed it too low, as he mentions in the vid.) I like my mustache trimmed though, otherwise I think it makes me look older if I don't, and I don't want to look older. :) The sideburns... omg I did that so bad until, thankfully, my brother, who doesn't even have a beard and can't grow one told me, nah, bro that looks dumb. So now I hit it with a trimmer and guard every now and then. Though, the problem here is you can ruin the sidebeard length if you're not careful. It's still a learning process for me. Kent comb!
We've all been there with the cheekline...my hair grows to my eyes so I need to keep that in check. On the moustache - and everything I say, it's only my subjective view - I know plenty of guys who hate the long and bushy moustache look. Sideburns are a big one - kudos to your bro! And a solid kent comb is a winner.
Trimming the cheeks is really simple if you know how to do it. Matty Conrad who is a professional barber has videos that teach on how to maintain your beard at home, including trimming the cheeks. Great advice.
Sorry to say this, but I hate so much mustach. If I have too long (if I put them down and they go over my upper lip, I will cut them going little pit over my upper lip) and I would like to have better beard growth and bad mustach grow.
Dude, no issues whatsoever with you saying that. This is just my opinion which counts for nothing in the grand scheme of things. When it comes to beards, or anything for that matter, “Do You”. Don’t worry about the views of anyone else. PS. I’m really struggling with the longer moustache at the moment and may even change my mind on this point 😂
Also, play songs by "The Beards" to your beard. Just like talking to plants, playing a song by "The Beards" to your beard daily, can dramatically increase the length, happiness, and general beardness of your beard. BEARDS!
Hello! First of all: That's a really good looking beard. 👍 I've been wearing a beard myself for the last 25 years or so but I've always kept it at a length of only about 1.5 - 2 cm. However, a couple of weeks ago I got the idea of growing my moustache (not directly above the lips but at the sides) in order to be able to create a handlebar. Everything worked out fine and now I have got what I imagined. But now the point has come where it has to be shortened a bit. Unfortunately I am not sure how to actually do it. Shall I comb it downwards and trim it, sideways and trim it, curl it into handlebar position and trim it... ? Maybe you have a good tip for me. I would really appreciate any kind of advice. 🙂 Sorry for my English. I'm from Austria, so it's not my first language.
Everything you said was fantastic! Except the Bulldog oil and butter. The Detroit Grooming 313 oil and butter combo would be a much better suggestion to everyone. Other than that great info.
Hey, appreciate it - I’ve really weirdly enjoyed the bulldog oil as a budget friendly product. I’ve never tried DGC Oils - their products can be difficult to source in the uk
Good tips and I agree. Have grown 2 or 3 long beards and end up restarting so have learned most of these tips along the way. The fact you had to say a hair-dryer does not make you less manly makes me trust the tip more in some strange way :P
Ha, seriously, some men get super concerned about using a hair dryer. I’ve used one for as long as I remember and my beard only looks half decent because I can dry it with one.
Neck beard is for longer beards. Professionals barbers do exactly as he said to do with neck beards, trim them right above the bottom of your beard. So if you don't have a long beard, then you will be shaving it all anyways.
3:36 It sounds like you're talking about a "Riker Beard" as seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation. They once had an episode where they discovered an identical Riker as the result of a transporter accident who was trapped alone on a planet. The makeup department wanted him to look a bit rougher so they filled in his cheeks and his beard looked so much better than the "real" Riker. I will say that low cheeklines aren't ideal, but they don't ruin a beard the way a high neckline does.
@@Beardster Here's the best I could find: ruclips.net/video/q0yaRZbki6U/видео.html Most of the time the camera is straight on with shading on the sides of the head, but there's s few clear shots. Thomas Riker clearly has the better looking beard.

I’d say avoid using any sort of heat especially for yourself as you have a dry beard as you mentioned in the video also you didn’t mention the use of wide tooth combs, they are to be used before you apply the beard oil
I noticed you're using beard butter from Detroit Grooming which is from the US but you sound like you live in the UK. Is there a UK supplier for that brand?
Not a big fan of the beard oil doesn't feel like it does anything. My beard is always down to my stomach. But you should try this I love. It. Sofree coconut oil repair scalp care daily conditioner with jojobs oil 3 oz. It .99$ and never looked back . Has a blue lid
Bulldog is a satisfactory, economical oil we have on shelves in US, too. But there are a couple or several premium beard product brands made in UK. And so why not?
Good combs like Kent or Chicago, anything like that make such a huge difference especially over time. Cheap combs essentially have tiny knife edges all over the place, the damage from that over time can really compound in a way that its far more then simply worrying about pulling hairs. Might seem silly to pay 10-15$ for a single comb but its soooo worth it, and most the better ones can last a life time so its not as expensive as it sounds. Also just for me personally, with heating a blow dryer is nice but i didn't ever get results i was hoping for until i found a good brush with low temp settings, i would say for me that was biggest game changer outside of what otherwise should be good daily maintenance practices like oil.
No videos in some time. Hope you haven't lost the big beard! I agree that letting the moustache grow long (past the lower lip) looks best with a medium or big beard and completes the look. It also gives you something to style and play around with. The longer the better, in most cases (IMO).
Bull Dog is great, the shower gel is one of my favourite smells and I also use the beard...gel? cream? I think. definitely one of those basic bitch cheap products that are actually usable

@@Beardster "washing" a beard with water is just rinsing. You need a gentle product to clean it. It would be like me rinsing off in the shower every day but only using soap once a week. At least that's my opinion.

I started washing mine everyday. But how do you get it to shape? Like I want the goatee area to be longer thicker than sides. Do you use different lengths on clippers?
I'm a big fan of male facial hair, and I think you make some excellent points about proportion. Having said that, my personal opinion is that you've got way too much hair on your head. EVERYTHING is bushy - hair, neck, cheeks. I don't get to see your eyes, your shoulders look smaller. A beard should not be washed every day. This removes natural accuring oils from your skin. I've had my beard for 5 years now and only wash it about every 5 days. No issues whatsoever and my wife loves it.

A beard should not be washed every day. This removes natural accuring oils from your skin. I've had my beard for 5 years now and only wash it about every 5 days. No issues whatsoever and my wife loves it.
