Batman is beating the hell out of Joker and still the Joker music plays in the background, so you know who is actually winning.
For me it was always catch some of the best parts of this scene and one I noticed is really how much the joker really is proving how Batman isn’t really getting anywhere with the joker
He’s taking and seeming to want all the hits he has so he could break
YES! That's the brilliance of the sound and music in this film!
I was your 2100th like
Bruh
It's like Joker said, he had nothing to threaten him with and he didn't give a crap if he got beat up.
Imagine the frustration when you punch someone in the face and he laughs even louder with each hit
Bale was throwing real punches and Ledger took the hits to make the scene more authentic

My cousin Seth was like that. I never understood it but it infuriated his older brother who tried to hit him harder. It seemed like just a quirk he had but then he started doing heroin and stealing from my dying grandmother. No lie his childhood fucked his head up.

"You compleeeeete meeeee." So fucking good.
I swear it is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
His delivery on that was so genuine and perfect that I legit almost teared up because of the fact that we never got to see Ledger reprise his role of the Joker. He was genuinely the perfection representation of pre-Asylum Joker. The way he toys with Batman, yet at the same time has this obvious admiration for him and uses psychology to get into Batman's mind so easily.. chilling. Nobody will ever top this performance, and i honestly mean ever on screen. Hedger's life was taken too short because he is going to live on in history forever as the Joker. He probably absorbed this character deep down inside him while method-acting this role. Imagine he & Pattison sharing the screen together, seeing Pattinson's Batman lose his cool completely and snap as Joker gets inside his head and threatens the love of his life. MAN, we really missed out. Bale's performance in these movies, although arguably top 3 greatest actors of his generation, paled in comparison to Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger & eventually Tom Hardy's version of Bane.
Sorry for the long paragraph. I smoked some indica & suddenly had so much to say lol.
" *Where are they?* " Batman asked calmly.
I understood that reference
Did you put their names in the buildings of fire??
>>Batman: WHERE ARE THEY!
Very poor choice of words
Why did he say "they" when he was only aware of Dent in that moment?
"You have nothing...nothing to threaten me with." Such an epic line, Batman really was powerless against the Joker.
Except the plot. That's pretty threatening imo

It was also the way he said it. Every line Ledger deliver he put out with utter conviction.
He says you are forgotten joker.Joker almost dies
I said that to three guys that were kicking my ass but they just kept kicking me even harder and it hurt like hell.
This scene won Ledger the Oscar.
100%
I am afraid that, with all respect,if he was still alive, he wouldn't get an Oscar. Ledger's Joker isn't that well-written character and not that well-performed. Sure, younger viewers might kind of like him , specificlly for the same reason the older viewers will hate him. This Jokers lacks personality, he is not the Clown Prince of Crime anymore (think of Nicholson's Joker!). He is an ugly terrorist with no sense of humour, his monologues are veeeeeeery long, pointless and dull. Actually, he has no truly memorable words to speak... Batman does, Alfred does, Rachel does, Ra'as does.... even Bane. But Joker... he is just repulsive. But he lacks what a perfect villain has - the unique personality.
@@missstarrynight7736That is a horrendous take. Even if for some reason you believe his character was not well written, the way Heath Ledger brought it to life was as great as acting can get, and we would have absolutely won that Oscar either way.

Younger people take for granted how "dark" and "seriously" and "mature" comic book movies can be these days. But I remember back in 2008 seeing this in theatre, and this was groundbreaking and shockingly bold and original. Nothing else was like this at the time.
Nothing else has been like this since either. This movie isn’t just incredible because of its darkness and maturity, it has a lot of lightning in a bottle elements in its acting, writing, direction, score, cinematography, screenplay, and gravitas that just simply can never be replicated again.
I completely agree. I just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and I was absolutely blown away by everything. I know it's already been said a million times but Heath Ledger was ridiculously incredible in this movie. Christian Bale was great as Bruce Banner and Batman as well. This scene really highlights their insane acting capabilities and was extremely intense to watch, especially with the hair-raising soundtrack by Hans Zimmer rising in the background. I genuinely wasn't sure whether Batman would kill Joker here or not. That's how amazing the acting and overall construction of this scene was.

@@bobstacks8405 One of the best performances I’ve ever seen and I don’t say that lightly. There’s not a single moment where you can tell Heath is acting. Feels so natural it’s quite scary actually
The movie is overrated tho
@@mydefenseisimpregnable yep

4:18 That Laugh, that amazing acting, is what sealed Heath Ledger as the best Joker to ever be put on screen 😵
It's crazy how joker was able to turn the conversation to a personal level
Saying “You have nothing to threaten me with, nothing to do with all your strength “ while getting beaten up, is a freaking powerful gesture
The Batman was on his last draw and one step from killing him right there totally lost control!
@@nickmartinka679and he will lost both of them eventually
It's so accurate too. Watching this you knew there was nothing Batman could do to intimidate him at that point. What a fantastic character. One of the best I've ever seen.
I don't think there's ever gonna be a Batman Joker scene that will top this scene ever. The intensity, acting, tension all on point, an absolute masterpiece
A masterpiece
Well yea there won’t be since ledgers gone 😭
Never ever my friend
The thing is, every batman movie can try and will try to do a scene like this. But honestly this scene, especially because of Heath, will always be better.
if you ever listened to the music score it starts to turn up a lot with the joker. it amplifies when the intensity gets worse. watch this scene and notice how it changes.
I mean does it really get any better than this, one of the finest performances ever on the big screen. This absolute genius of an actor completely owned this role and truely became the joker. God bless heath and thank you for what you have left us with. Masterpiece after masterpiece.
One of the best movies ever
“Does it depress you commissioner? To know just how alone you really are?”
Hits me every time
Yup. Every character in the movie thinks the Joker is just yapping about different shit but when you think about it in reality, he’s been trying to speak true words to his foes.
Every time he says that line I get instantly depressed lmao
Lol yet Batman was in the room with him
Watched this scene like a million times and it just doesn't get old.
It is appropriate to watch whatever year you're in.
Same
Of course, it’s timeless
Endgame is shit
@@ok-ql5oc infinity war was better, imo
I like to see the main villain absolutely PWN the main cast.
Incredible perfomance of Heath Ledger, its in history of cinema
"The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules"
Heath Ledger (JOKER)
The light turning on to reveal Batman was standing behind the Joker the entire time is probably my favorite cinematic Batman moment ever. Just perfection. Straight out of a comic book.
Ikr its almost like a jumpscare
Not even close comic related
@@greenlightcomics7602fym not even close? its batman and joker in an interrogation room 😂? whats more comic booky then that?
Yeah it's like a transition that takes place not because the scene changes but because a part of the scene remains hidden from you... A pretty generic analysis but I think this makes sense
@@greenlightcomics7602dude, I’ve read a lot of comics or, as I prefer to call them, graphic novels, and it is, 100% lifted out of how graphic novels will do a page turn then upper left corner panel was something you absolutely did not expect or see coming.
“He could be in 1 place, or several” hilariously genius foreshadowing.
What did he foreshadow?
hola amigos that his body parts could be scattered across the city in the explosions. (Wasn’t foreshadowing death but that he was in a situation that could kill him via explosives)
@@nabb6435 daaaamn.. thanks for that! 😂
@hola amigos nothing Ben g is just using the word wrong
Matthew Kim yep pretty much lmao. My bad.
This is the best Joker performance we’ve ever seen in any Batman related movie. Joker is just having fun, not giving a damn about anything. The fact he gave Batman the wrong coordinates so that way Rachel would be killed and Dent would survive shows how smart and cruel he really is. That’s what made Heath Ledger a legendary actor. RIP Heath, gone too soon. ❤
The fact that Batman is in the room the entire time is a cool detail that people don’t mention enough
i honestly believe heath ledger’s joker is the best performance of a villain ever, i wish he could’ve had a solo movie like joaquin phoenix did
Yeah, he wanted to do one with Ledger, but R.I.P. Wish he lived enough so we saw such an amazing performance again.
I would love to know who gave him the scars. My theory when he was a young hoodlum he f--ked with the wrong guy.
Emperor Palpatine: Am I a joke to you!!!
I never liked ledgers joker.. I thought it sucked tbh
@@TheSands83
What... I'm scared to ask but how could you possibly think this legendary role as the joker sucked? I mean I like to respect peoples opinions, but when it goes against logic itself I can't help but judge.

I like that the Joker knows Batman better than Batman knows the joker. He also ends up being partially right. Batman not only broke his one rule he then was complicit in the lie to cover it up therefore dipping his toe into corruption. Not only that but he is outcast as a part of the coverup so they do turn on him and hunt him.
"They're only as good as the world allows them to be" and "I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve" are two of the best lines from this scene.
I have one rule
It also basically foreshadowed the third movie after Bane controls Gotham.
We could see the live version "they are only as good as the world allows them to be" when people knocked people over in variety stores for basic little things during Covid
Reminds me of Shane from The Walking Dead who adapts faster than everyone to a degree, he is perceived as monster. Later seasons you see everyone begins thinking like him.
I like "their morals, their code, it's a bad joke; dropped at the first sign of trouble." That's true of so many people.
The smacking of the lips, EPIC!
Obviously the best acting performance ever. Every single scene he’s in is incredible.
The Joker was in control of this scene the entire time. "You have nothing to threaten me with.....nothing to do with all your strength"
Joker was in control throughout the movie even when he is caught. He lost the battle but won the war against Batman.
@@chancellorasher9417 yh he won really
He already knew Batman would of been there out of desperation AND he would of gone after Rachel, he gave his the wrong location to make him fail so it would break him and it actually did, at least for some years after
@@Nazio868 Joker knew Batman would go for the girl. Batman chose to be selfish for just one woman instead of rescuing Harvey who could save an entire city. Joker was in complete control.
@@SWIFTO_SCYTHE you're contradicting yourself, Harvey did get saved by accident but by Rachel dying it broke Harvey and he went rouge as 2 Face, Obviously The Joker wanted this outcome that's why he said "you need an Ace in the hole, mine's Harvey" - that's why he gave batman the wrong address because he knew batman would make it in time to save Harvey
It’s really strange how Joker almost idolizes Batman.
@Flambo Fire I don't think he's annoyed by it, but definitely amused. In his mind he believes that everyone is corruptible and is having fun chipping away at Batman's moral code. It's kind of like how it feels good to win in an argument with an opposing viewpoint. Plus, joker can only be the best version of himself with the existence of batman and he knows it (obviously as joker himself said "you complete me"). Thus, I wouldn't say that it pisses him off, he believes it's just a matter of time before batman breaks and is just enjoying the ride.
@@edwinleechuanhao He is amused by him cuz he thinks Batman is naive. He talks to him like he is a little child teaching him about humanity. He is doing this to Dent also. Joker is suprised in a good way that somoene like Batman exists that he is willing to die for his principles. He knows he can't break him that much he is certain so what he is doing in the whole movie is teaching Batman a lesson that humanity is not worth his sacrifice.
actually that's kinda true. When joker said "don't talk like you're one of them, you're not" he meant about everyone wants to have control over others, just like the government, the laws, controlling the people in the name of a made-up bullshit "peace and justice" (or atleast that's what the joker thinks). On the other side,it's the batman. The only thing similar between him and the joker is they are not under this so called system and even if they want to be, they can't. So joker admires' how he decides to work outside the system, a vigilante, but it's just that he doesn't like the work he does.
He doesn't idolize Batman, he just loves having an enemy, a nemesis, someone who embodies the opposite of what he is.
I wouldn’t say he idolized him but he’s definitely intrigued by him. Probably because he sees someone who reminds him of himself; a person larger than humanity, with a mind and moral code that’s totally different from the rest of the population. So he obviously wants to poke and prod that and find out how far it can go
The way the music starts after Joker's revelation of Rachel is awesome
Still a masterclass of a scene showcasing the sheer psychotic-ness of joker.
How dare ppl say Bane had Batman in the worst position. There's nothing worse than being at full strength, exerting all your strength on someone, and getting back laughter.
Getting back DVD commentary of Bane kicking your ass and breaking your back is arguably worse.
@@SpaceForce635 he ASKED for all of that though. Bruce knew he was nowhere near ready for Bane and went on a suicide mission going after him. He was at his peak against Joker and got nothing but frustration. Like in a dream where you're running your hardest and not going anywhere.
bane completely broke the Batman's spirit, the joker just traumatised batman.
batman completely changed after bane
@@Jabba-le-feminist-hating-Hutt his spirit been broken, like I said, going to Bane in his shape was a suicide mission we all knew would go bad. He couldn't even walk without a cane days beforehand.
Well, all of the villains in this trilogy have tried to break Batman and they kinda did. Ra’s and scarecrow wanted to use Batman’s fear to break him and destroy Gotham, Joker wanted to break him morally and mentally by pushing Batman’s buttons in all ways possible, not only attacking the city, but his loved ones, and Bane wanted to break him physically make him him powerless while he brings Gotham to ashes. However, despite all the villains efforts, Batman always comes back from it.
