Saw them here at MSG with Deep Purple & was amazed that they were cut short. I knew Richie Blackmore had a thing for not being upstaged my back up bands such as Guiffria and other bands. I really thought he had something to do with it. Girls school was an incredible four piece rock band didn’t matter if it was all girl or not. They were a great club band and a great band. RIP Kelly!
I didn't get into Girlschool until 2010 or so. I wish I could have seen them live. Kelly definitely influenced the way I looked at setting guitar tones and techniques. She was a great player and from what I have seen and read, a really great person. RIP Kelly
I met and hung out with Kelly and the girls when they played a club date here in London Ontario Canada-at a bar called The Electric Banana. We drank with the girls, after the show, until daylight. Kelly was a lovely person. R.I.P.
So sad to die that young. She really made me want to learn the guitar but i found out im a bit odd im totally right handed but i want to play the guitar left handed so it never really happened o well my son is dam good all self tourt. You are on fire at the moment its been every night you have popped up keep going because i really enjoy what you do.❤❤
Thank you so much Jayne 🥰 I really enjoy learning more about these amazing artists ❤ And your son is most definitely going places with his talent, hes fantastic and a real natural 💯😁👌
Hi Jayne, not odd at all. History is dotted with players with two hands and just for the record, famouse lefties are Gary Moore, Mark Knopfler and Lonnie Mack. ALL played the guitar right handed though they were lefties. Then you have Geldoff who plays his guitar in standard tuning upside down but he wasn't really a guitarist. You have to love the guitar...I know I do!
I remember Kelly very well and feel sad that anyone dies before their time. Women in music always have it tough though who knows why? I play JudieTzuke, Julia Fordham, and Dionne Warwick every day and then there is Joni. Perfection. Thanks for the post, we should remember these artists.
I’ve seen Girlschool many times during the early 80s and met them after their shows on a couple of occasions I have Kelly’s autograph from 1982 written inside a cut off denim jacket
I was in a covers band (Beergut Explodes) in Swindon. We rehearsed at a place called the Monkey Club. One day the guy running it said that Girlschool were gonna play there, did we want to support? Of course we did. The gig was in '95 and Kelly was in the band. It was all the original line-up except Tracy Lamb on bass instead of Enid. Spoke to the girls after as I had seen them at a few gigs previously in the 80's. One of my best musical memories.
Awesome VId Thanks..Saw girlschool back in the early 80s a couple of times in a small rock club near where i lived at the time..they were Excellent live..Im glad i go the chance to see them perfom in their hayday..their Cover version of Gun's "Run with Devil" was as good as the original...they were just a real proffessional outfit and well practiced
Good work. She was remarkable in an inevitable British band. I saw Girlschool in Dec. 81 and April 88 (this time with Motörhead!). Unforgettable. Maybe there'll be a 3rd time. Kelly Johnson's guitar puzzled Jeff Beck, that's quite something , innit?
Kelly was very close friend of mine ! Most people did not know that Kelly nows sign language . she introduces me to my kids mom at one of the shows in the mid- 90's
That other " band " was my close friend Pam's band which included Mary hodges on bass , Jenny thornburg on guitar and Debbie Billingsley was the singer the band name was diamond claw the split up and Kelly joined the group under a different name
In 1995 they play in a small venue in Brummen Holland warming up for their tour with Rush. After the gig we had a great meet&greet with Kelly and the girls...
Kelley was bad ass, lucky to see girlscool many times with her,and met her a couple of times. Was at two shows for The World's Cutest Killers as well.To bad cannot fi d any recordings of them.Kelly was the first Bad Ass Chick in Metal....Thanks Kelly for the music you made for us to enjoy....
Hi my friend, I so admire your energy and how much you put into your videos! Something I love is how you’re opening up the music world to people who might only have knowledge of one or two singers, it makes the world of music feel more open, if that makes sense. Spinal cancer, my God that dear girl. Bless her soul. I had another suggestion…Chrissy Amphlett. Wonderful tribute, just wonderful.❤
Thank you Deidre your positive feedback always means a lot 🤗💕 And yes some of the ways these icons pass is terribly sad 💔 So happy I can do a little to keep their legacy alive, even in a small way 🥰 Have thought of Chrissie quite a few times and loved her music also so will pop her on the list ☺ Thanks again for your kind words 💝
@@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv you’re very welcome. You’re doing a fabulous job of shining a light on people, we don’t want to ever lose their voices.🤗
I remember they played in calgary in 82,,there was a photo on there website of them in front of a old log cabin taken in fish creek park,,always thought it was cool,,,the cabin is still there
In 1988 I saw World's Cutest Killers at the Coconut Teaser Nightclub in Los Angeles. I knew Kathy Valentine and she put me on the guest list. Great show and great times.
Lemmy should've brought her in when Fast Eddie split. She totally had the perfect style and tone for Motorhead. Amazing that she went from blisteringly loud rock to the silence of sign language
@@fredvahldiek738 I was on the railing for maiden but a massive dude standing in front of me blocked me for most of the girls set but the guy passes out and cleared the front row leaving me to grab the spot under dickenson so I climbed the chain link and was so close I got sprayed with sweat when he tugged on the noose in hallowed be thy name
Girlschool were meant to Play Tonypandy Naval club back in the day. They took one look at the place and refused to go on stage. Arrogant and not very good were Girlschool, a crap novelty band is all. It was good enough for Saxon though.

In fact, I just remembered: the singer from a local band Legend Killers carried Kelly on his shoulders during a solo…and accidentally dropped her! 😂
How cool must that have been! What an amazing memory to cherish 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing 🤗
@glengamble526 Damn
I really enjoyed this biography, what a shame she passed away so young.
