    Fun fact about the licensed music, some of the scenes with said licensed music actually had original music made for them before getting switched out, and the composer literally had to fight to keep more from being cut.
    The scene with "Take on Me" playing originally had a track called "Driving me Bananas", which can be found on the soundtrack.
    [Spoiler] One of the musical tracks that was close to being cut was the Superstar theme in the final battle, which was almost replaced with "Jump". One of the most triumphant renditions of the star theme was almost replaced by a licensed song.

      I would keep my expectations in check for the movie's performance in Japan. Western animated movies don't tend to do well in Japan, unless they're from Disney and Pixar, though Illumination has achieved some success there. If things go alright in Japan I think the Mario movie will do around $60 or $70 million there, and that's being optimistic

    • @pablocasas5906
      @pablocasas5906 Год назад

      @@Geuelthefool yes, Mario is indeed popular in his home country, unlike Sonic who was created to appeal to Western markets. But just because something is popular it doesn't mean its popularity will translate to other mediums, especially looking back at other Western adaptations of Japanese IPs that didn't perform that amazing in Japan (like Godzilla, Battle Angel Alita or Speed Racer) or that outright failed (like Dragon Ball Evolution, Netflix's Cowboy Bebop and the recent Saint Seiya live-acton film). However, it seems that The Mario Movie had the 3rd highest debut for an animated foreign film in Japan and it's actually performing similarly to Jurassic World 3 and Top Gun 2, which did great in Japan. I think it helps Nintendo is directly involved in the translation of the movie and part of the marketing

    I'm sure the great Lou Albano is smiling down at his influence. The licensing music wasn't much a problem for me for the late 80/90's songs which I think is a better choice than playing any modern-day music to be honest, and it does fit in some occurrence throughout the movie. Not to mention the first Mario game was released in the 80's, after all! But yes, Holding Out for a Hero (and thank you for saying its correct name and not I Need a Hero) will forever be linked to Shrek 2 because of Jennifer's out of the park performance as the Fairy Godmother. I always thought her version of the song was the original until I found out about Bonnie...THAT'S how good it is! She only took four days to record her part too! Shrek 2 belongs in the Louvre.

  • @AverytheCubanAmerican
    @AverytheCubanAmerican Год назад +14

    Eminem's been real quiet since Bowser dropped this sick track. Jack Black is timeless, he appreciates all types of music yet still embraces his rock/metal style in some way that makes it even better and not corny. Need to protect him at all costs! Like everyone else, I at first thought, "CHRIS PRATT?! He's not even Italian!" but then I remembered Charles Martinet isn't Italian either and once I realized it's a Brooklyn accent in the trailer, as a New Yorker, I decided to give it a chance. Chris really did do a great job. The casting for this movie might've been a shitpost when it was first revealed, but it was actually perfect. Anya was perfect and definitely inspiring, Seth Rogen's voice fits DK, and Keegan went above and beyond literally to do a high-pitch voice for Toad.
    This was a true love letter to the franchise. The movie has something for everyone whether it's all the references (like the GameCube jingle as a ringtone...my favorite), Peach being an absolute GIRLBOSS, to the amazing soundtrack (gotta love the Gusty Garden representation). And Charles Martinet playing the role of their dad was fitting since of course, his voice brought the character to life in the first place.

    If they were going to use license music for the Kong island introduction, why the hell did they use “Take on Me” and not “Welcome to the Jungle”?

    Toad is one of my favorite nintendo characters, but he could've been played much better. It's not Keegan's fault, it was just the movie in general. They made him like this quirky little sidekick instead of more of a helper/adventurer. I really hope they put the propeller mushroom in the sequel bc NSMB Wii is my favorite mario game and is such a classic.

    while i totally get there was too much licensed music used, i kinda get what they were going for, using all that 80’s and 90’s music which is around when are original Mario games were being released. more nostalgia

    Basically, the live-action Mario movie is an alright stand alone movie but a bad Mario movie. And the animated Mario movie is a great Mario movie, but an avarage stand alone movie.

    Easily the best film Illumination has ever done. They REALLY need to do more of these films!
    And yeah, the pacing and licensed music were my only two flaws, as well. Everything else was absolutely phenomenal from the animation, characters and LOADS of references to the games, too!
    I cannot tell you how hard I was laughing watching that initial Nintendo Direct with the cast back in 2021 XD; even though they actually did really well in the movie.

    The only thing is they didn’t really adapt Mario as the true sociopath he is, so all us Theorists disapprove. So I’m honest gonna have to give only 2 games out of 5 theory.

    The mario movie imo is very much a fun time. To put it short, a flawed, but really fun movie! But yeah it really felt like it could've stretched itself out a little more with the pacing. We often got very little time for character moments or even just taking in the world.
    I mean a good example is when they arrive into the Kongs land and Mario challenges them, being told how bad this idea is! Like almost immediately afterwards it jump cuts straight to Mario walking down the hall into the arena! That area could've really used a breather or even just some comments from Peach and Toad after Cranky Kong had left to pump up how bad of an idea taking on DK would be, which would make the punchline of DK being an absolute showboater even better. Maybe use it as a moment to reinforce Marios motivations, cause all of this is to try and save Luigi of course, keeping the heart of the movie at the centre.
