Detentionaire had some the craziest lore and story that I’ve ever seen in a kids show. Blew my mind as a 12 year old. I rewatched it again recently for fun with some friends as a 21 year old and I’ve gotta say it’s aged very well!
Back when Grojband aired I was 12 and heavily obsessed to where i ran blogs, decided i wanted to be an animator, and am still friends with Corey's VA, he also now teaches at my uni. Grojband also propelled me to study what i do! It also made me love Canadian animation for its weird charm, tho VERY HIT OR MISS, some of them really suck but i think thats the beauty of it
He seems like a cool dude, and while Grojband is him at his best I also liked him in Magi-Nation, Bakugan, and even the old Sailor Moon dub (which is one of his first gigs). If Capcom had held onto using Toronto VAs for a little longer maybe he could've been X.
I remember watching Grojband back in the summer of 2013 when I was 10 years old. Even though I didn't get to experience the full series at that time, it wasn't until I rediscovered it in October 2023 where I would watch the entire series and I fell in love with it again, not to mention it had a few Halloween-related episodes in which I picked the perfect time of year to rewatch it. While I'm quick to notice a few coincidental similarities to Phineas and Ferb (i.e. the genius, cunning main protagonist has an antagonistic older sister, main protagonist's best friend has a crush on him to which he's clueless, the older sister has a crush on the laid-back, popular, dreamy boy, songs in every episode, etc.)-another show I also love, I did enjoy the show for its overall humor, writing, characters, messages, and songs. Even the animation looks smooth and brand new despite the show being over a decade old. Now I'm 21, and not only does this show inspire me to pursue music, but I'm also holding out for Cartoon Network or another more merciful channel to air reruns of this show so it could get revived for a second season-one more focused on fleshing out the characters and expanding upon the story. Nevertheless, Grojband will always have a special place in my heart and I can safely say it's a wicked million times BETTER than Teen Titans Go, which can go bite Bender's shiny metal ass. (Funny that I made a Futurama reference at the end because that show and Family Guy were revived thanks in part to CN for airing reruns of the show on Adult Swim after Fox canceled them back in the early 2000's.)
it’s been at least 12 years since i last watched an episode of yoohoo and friends but i Still know all the words to the theme song and it Still gets randomly stuck in my head to this day
So a few corrections about YooHoo and Friends, apparently the original version eventually got a much more faithful english dub for Amazon Prime Video in 2011. And that "3rd season that was never dubbed" mentioned in 6:15 was actually for the original show, not the David Feiss version (which has its own separate wikipedia page.) The David Feiss version was released in 2012, a year earlier than season 2 of the original show. So it only "followed" the events of the very first season. And one more thing: the English cast for YooHoo to the Rescue includes, I kid you not: Kira Buckland (who did Jolyne Cujoh), Bryce Papenbrook (who did Eren Jaegar) and Kyle Herbert (who did Escanor). And that's just the US cast. Yes, this show has *another* English cast for the UK.
Omg That yoohoo and friends unlocked a core memory! I can’t believe I forgot all about that absolutely insane show! I don’t think I’ve seen or heard about it since I was like 9, what the heck
Vids like these bring back memories of watching YTV and Teletoon in the 2010s! I remember seeing lots Detentionaire reruns late at night, really loved the character designs and background art on that show. Always cool to see youtubers watching them!
I recently rewatched all of Detentionaire in order, and its actually so damn good and I hate that it ended on a cliffhanger that was never resolved, I would be so damn excited if they were to revive it for another season or two
I literally ended up watching, loving, and getting hyperfixated on the entirety of YooHoo and Friends thanks to a friend of mine showing me it in this very video. So in a roundabout way I have this video to thank for that
Man it's always a great treat to go down memory lane. And now I want to go back and watch most of these again all these years later. Teletoon and YTV were the best channels growing up.
I watched Stoked on TV when I was younger, and the episode mentioned the two boys having a "bromance". I then proceeded to ask my gay uncle and his husband if they had a bromance, to which they cackled
Fun fact about YooHoo To The Rescue. While not originally the case the actors for this series has several anime dub voice actors. YooHoo was voiced by Kira Buckland, Pamme was Ryan Bartley, Lemmee was Bryce Papenbrook, Rodee was Lucien Dodge and Chewoo was Cassandra Lee Morris. Pretty crazy isn’t it.
Well, this was the case with Miraculous Ladybug and Genshin Impact where the former was French and the latter was Chinese, but both have the English versions be voiced by anime dub voice actors.
Fantastic video, Diamondbolt!! Thank you for reminding me Grojband existed I forgot I watched it at all. As someone who recently binged Detentionaire, I gotta agree with everything you said. While not the best in terms of visuals, the mystery and characters are honestly really great. I would definitely recommend checking out the whole show at some point in the future.
There is something I find interesting with the cartoons, and it’s the fact that thier drawing styles seem to go all into one category in the same way you put anime
Canada: **Leads the charge into Beijing during world war 3, Cures HIV and successfully makes a Hex girls cartoon** DiamondBolt: Nope still not forgiving you for Angela Anaconda.
Oh you are most definitely going to love 6teen. Albeit when it aired in the US it was sanitized as it showed some nudity in some episodes. But I'm sure the original eps are floating around somewhere on the Internet
I remember detentionaire was my favourite show when it first premiered on Teletoon, I kept up with it for a long time then randomly stopped watching it
9:19 ok I know some people may find him annoying but the Swedish exchange student with long hair was probably my favourite character in the Detentionaire mainly because he had some of the best one liners
I think there may have been an episode of Stoked I watched as a kid which really scared me. It took place in a dark and creepy boiler room with the characters having to find a fuse box or something while they were hunted by the shark mascot of the resort. Either that or I had some subconscious fear of dark and creepy boiler rooms which manifested as a dream featuring the cast of Stoked so I might be wrong, but either way, I’ve held a grudge against Stoked for years now because of it.
I remember watching Grojband in a random hotel when I was on the east coast. I saw it, got scared by a zombie episode, and never turned the TV on again.
I remember watching very little of Grojband and probably a single episode of detentionaire but there is still a show that I can barley remember. It was claymation and about high schoolers and the most notable thing is that the scene transitions were record spinning records.
I remember the show, just not the name. The name of the show was the schools name and it was about how wacky and haunted the school was. There were 3 main characters, a black dude, a nerd and a girl. That show was a certified hood classic

The David Feiss version was released in 2012, a year earlier than season 2 of the original show. So it only "followed" the events of the very first season.
And one more thing: the English cast for YooHoo to the Rescue includes, I kid you not:
Kira Buckland (who did Jolyne Cujoh), Bryce Papenbrook (who did Eren Jaegar) and Kyle Herbert (who did Escanor).
And that's just the US cast. Yes, this show has *another* English cast for the UK.
Omg That yoohoo and friends unlocked a core memory! I can’t believe I forgot all about that absolutely insane show! I don’t think I’ve seen or heard about it since I was like 9, what the heck
Grojband is best described as "Guy uses his sister's trauma dumping for his music"
Vids like these bring back memories of watching YTV and Teletoon in the 2010s! I remember seeing lots Detentionaire reruns late at night, really loved the character designs and background art on that show. Always cool to see youtubers watching them!
4:48 i had the gray and blue one at the front when i was a kid, its still in the house too.
So in a roundabout way I have this video to thank for that
Yoohoo and friends fan!! WHOOOO 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for talking about Grojband i loved that cartoon
As an Aussie about your age, man is this bringing back memories! Detentionnaire really got ended on a cliffhanger, huh?
Man it's always a great treat to go down memory lane.
And now I want to go back and watch most of these again all these years later.
Teletoon and YTV were the best channels growing up.
I watched Stoked on TV when I was younger, and the episode mentioned the two boys having a "bromance". I then proceeded to ask my gay uncle and his husband if they had a bromance, to which they cackled
Ok, you NEED to talk about Jimmy Two Shoes. They literally got away with having it take place in literal hell
Grossology and Detentionaire are my favorites, especially their theme songs.
@@spydersoup8447 I know I just felt like pointing that out cuz I thought it was an interesting fact. lol
Very rare but always welcome to see someone acknowledge Grossology.
Not to see Grossology. Just to see that someone else liked it.
God i remember grossology. I used to watch that on Qubo all the time when i was younger, and i loved it.
In detentionair i honestly thought the budget was pretty high because of how the animation looked.
14:47 god i loved this show growing up, a pal of mine didn't have the stomach for some facts
Sameeee.
@@usmcdevildog3497 GROSSOLOGY WAS THE GOAT!
There is something I find interesting with the cartoons, and it’s the fact that thier drawing styles seem to go all into one category in the same way you put anime
I vividly remember seeing YooHoo and Friends when I was younger and…..kinda liking it? Glad to see that it’s as weird as I remembered it to be
Woohoo and friends is a cinematic masterpice.
Grojband just gave me a massive hit of nostalgia
Grossology is special, because it takes a lot for a show to unironically trigger my gag reflex by even just thinking about it
Canada: **Leads the charge into Beijing during world war 3, Cures HIV and successfully makes a Hex girls cartoon**
DiamondBolt: Nope still not forgiving you for Angela Anaconda.
They made a hex girls cartoon?
Oh you are most definitely going to love 6teen. Albeit when it aired in the US it was sanitized as it showed some nudity in some episodes. But I'm sure the original eps are floating around somewhere on the Internet
13:27 Bro turned into Godzilla 😂😂
I am so disappointed that I didn't watch Grojband when i was younger because i would have LOVED it haha
9:24 I can't be the only one that has Vietnam flashbacks from that sound
You and others deserve a veteran's discount
*whack*
Oh no not the whip crack, having flashbacks to the early 2010s on Cartoon Network
I didn't get to see Detentionaire till a year ago but it was absolutely great. Kinda crazy to see a kids show with a long running consistent plot.
4:00 another thing, Father Time is voiced by the Rapper Flava Flav
Grojband and Total Drama are some of my favorite cartoons through my childhood
4:09 and I remember the main antagonist being a meerkat with a French accent who wanted the gems for himself
I remember watching very little of Grojband and probably a single episode of detentionaire but there is still a show that I can barley remember.
It was claymation and about high schoolers and the most notable thing is that the scene transitions were record spinning records.
Was it mudpit? It was on teletoon the same time as detentionaire and was half 3D animated half real people
@@tumblrqueen8143 no, It was almost definitely fully claymation and probably older then detentionaire
I remember the show, just not the name. The name of the show was the schools name and it was about how wacky and haunted the school was. There were 3 main characters, a black dude, a nerd and a girl. That show was a certified hood classic
I hope you do more cartoon reviews in this year. Maybe you'll do British cartoons one day.
Oh yoohoo, I remember being so cult obsessed with the cruder Canadian version. I still remember Pamee's voice
