    Great stuff, I've been away from match fishing for a few years (albeit still watching a lot on RUclips 😊) but have missed the hybrid lakky revolution. That's simplified all the choices for me and will mean a much more uniform selection through my top-kits rather than a mix-and-match 👍

    Well this has given me something to think about, that's for sure. I'd be interested to see what people in other parts would recommend from those brands, because I'm sure I've seen some using heavier stuff like 2.0mm and 2.2mm in short and F1 kits.
    Now because I'm a little nuts I'm probably going to end up spending hours making a table/chart or three to keep track, and then there's all the other brands to throw in there too, and no doubt the die-hard hollow users will throw some confusion in. My mind just loves to run off way to far with that kind of thing.

      Worst thing you can do is over complicate it mate brands are just personal preference but the sizes are important to understand I'd never use an elastic that was too heavy as it takes the fun away and you just bump more off but fish too light and them bigger girls can be hard to tame lol

    Have you any thoughts on why match fishing is in decline.
    What do you think would bring more people into match fishing.

    Thanks for the video guys!
    Question.. as the power kits have an ESR 18 rating.. how thick elastic would you still use a powerkit and still feel comfortable using it, as 2.2 slik is a 16-18 rating if i'm not mistaken and powerkits are heaviest elastic rated in the mtx series?

    Great video. I’ve attend a mixed fishery with fish from 1oz to 15lb… the carp are famous for crashing the swim and it’s for this reason I struggle with choice of elastic.
    When fishing rod and line I use 8lb main line and a 5lb hook length and that gets me by. But what would the best pole setup be to have a good days fishing?
    Matching the correct main line to elastic too… what’s the score there then?

    • @winningwaysbasics
      @winningwaysbasics  Год назад

      What are you fishing for is the question, if you are there for a days silvers fishing a nice light solid and accept you will be playing carp for a while.
      If you are trying to catch carp then step it up and you might bump the odd silver.

      @@winningwaysbasics thank you for this. I went fishing for perch the other day and had 8 carp… only 1 perch. It seems like regardless what you fish for, keeping the carp away is very difficult.

    Awesome video guys, so this summer in my power top kit for predominately carp 5-10lb I’ll be putting 15 dura slip in. Also what top kits would you recommend to use with the Preston edge monster in winter as power kits are to stiff?

    My local lake has loads of Carps from 7 - 25lb... and seemingly nothing smaller.
    I've tried a few elastics... Right up to a Red Hydro... but whenever you accidentally foul hook one of the larger chaps its off across the lake or down the bank Into snags and you just can't get them back.... Do I scale down the elastic or do I admit defeat and a get a rod out?
    Lost two top Superium Carps top kits on my last session and it's a bloody expensive but I'd love to actually bank one of these big units.

      My local venue seems to be similar to yours, i use the matrix slick 16-18 which is 2,2mm and that handles them pretty good. Of course you gotta use a pole, and especially topkits that can handle the tension of those elastics.

    • @rens9247
      @rens9247 6 месяцев назад

      Also don't fish too heavy on your lines because every ones in a while you'll hook one that snaps you off anyway, and you rather want to lose a hooklenght than a topkit would you..

    I have a question, why does power kits make such a difference to thin elastic?

    • @winningwaysbasics
      @winningwaysbasics  Год назад

      They won't really make much difference on the lighter elastics other than the bore size of the connector. They will add weight to the pole though so you are better off with match kits when you can :)

    Hi guys, great video, if you were going down the edge with the chance of hooking something over 20lb would you step up from 2mm hybrid.

    • @winningwaysbasics
      @winningwaysbasics  Год назад +2

      Is it a realistic chance (like Larford Speci Lake for example), or has the lake got a couple of 20s in that get caught once a year. You are best off basing your elastic choice on the average size of fish you are catching not the biggest in the lake. Even then you often find that going heavier just makes them pull back harder and you risk blowing up sections. Going that little bit lighter allows you so ship back and get them onto a topkit where you have a lot more control.

      I caught my biggest carp on 12 to 14 matrix slik it was a 19lb 12oz common and managed to tame it on balanced tackle I had 0.17mm main line 0.15mm bottom with a 14 hook and all coped well
