I gave up on the “American dream” a long time ago because nowadays the “American Dream” is to make enough money so the problems of this nation don’t apply to you instead of fixing said problems.
The Key to life is for me is to help/love people in need, value family/friends, and to enjoy the little things. That’s all there is to it, very simple but people overcomplicate it.

@@ItsMeMissRuby me too sis. It made me unsubscribe from the rat race and really look at myself like “What are you doing?”. Life is but a vapor. Reminded me to love God, do good, and trust that my steps are ordered by Him while I’m here.
I'm not a believer, but I love the way you're using the concept of God in your message because I think it speaks to what religion ideally tries to teach!
In psychology, we have these concepts called the Id, Ego, and Superego. I'm no Psychologist btw, just someone with an interest in the topic and the Id is that force within us that always tries to push us towards 'perfection'. It says "do more, earn more, work harder!!" I think people usually mistake the Id for the Ego. The Ego basically mediates your relationship with reality (reality testing) and allows you to see things for what they are instead of getting clouded by your own perspective. That's why it's extremely important to have an Ego, which if you don't, you'll be like today's generation; glorifying "delulu"
And then of course there's the Superego. The Superego is ideally the voice of reason. It reminds you who you are. It scolds and plays the role of the father basically within your inner world. I believe what you guys call God is the Superego personified. I see now that there were major benefits to having a faith cos without it, especially in today's world, a lot of people are controlled by the Id, and I doubt the Id could ever be satiated cos its idealistic; its not allowed to be sated!
This consumerism-materialism culture goes so much deeper than simply telling people to give up on the American dream. It speaks to how healthy and balanced a person is psychologically. That's why I don't look up to people who exploit and sell ALL their time and lives away just to get a shiny new toy or to impress their friends. It's infantile.
