I absolutely love your guys podcast and love listening to y'all sooo much!!! Super super relatable, always! I'm a 1st generation kid and mom of 2 and always trying to change parenting up! I just wanted to say one thing - the terms trauma and trauma bond are really really heavy terms. As a therapist, it's sometimes concerning when we use those words so flippantly. It's very important for us to understand what the term trauma actually refers to and I'll be honest, it does not really apply to the average 1st generation kiddo who experienced strict/unfair households. I'm not saying the struggle wasn't real, but trauma is a very heavy word. Just saying! Keep it coming, i wait for Wednesdays!!
Thanks for sharing that we appreciate it!❤️ and we appreciate you watching
Felt this so deeply, I wish one day I can share my story about my in laws and my own parents and be able to reach and change the hearts of our society 😢
I love your podcast. This one really hit home. I actually got teary eyed during the part uruje was talking about the girl in her class that felt like she needed to marry after her studies. When I was 16 i felt i needed to study somthing short like a diploma because what if my future husband didnt allow me to work so i didnt want my studies and that many years gone to waste. But luckly my mindset changed before i graduated highschool and I knew that i should do whats best for me and ill find a partner who im compatible with. It was all thanks to a video that I watched (i forgot who it was but it was another desi creator) that changed my mind. May Allah reward you both for the work you do and grant you success in this world and the next Aameen.
Ameen🙏
thanks so much for these reflections. would you guys consider doing a follow-up episode on what you think it *does* look like (with examples, etc) to be a dutiful child to one's parents in our cultural context? maybe one part could be on what you think makes sense for our generation to expect of our own children in terms of duty/respect, and then another part on how we should enact duty/respect to our parents as their adult children? also, big ups for reminding your audience how much talent lies in our community - so true
That’s a good idea thanks for sharing
Gosh, this one was difficult but I much appreciate it, so thank you very much girlies ❤
Thanks for watching
Omgeee, this made me cry about saying I love you to parents. I feel the same and I love my parents through my children. I even get them to hold them and love them the way I want to.
It's so hard and it's not pride, I adore my parents.
This hit hard❤
❤️ it’s such a real thing to go through
I shed some tears too!!! I've never said it either and honestly don't think I will ever be able to muster up the courage to do so but hopefully iA have kids one day to apply this technique, it was nice of her to share, I'm gonna wanna do the same now LOL. This podcast is elite 🤌
Me being from Trinidad and living in Canada enjoying this podcast and understanding some of these cultural issues
Thank you for listening
Speak my heart out 😢 feels validating to hear you guys say it out loud, bless you both
🙏
I resonated with this episode so much! My upbringing really affected my personality and behavior as I grew older. 😅
nah yall be coming out with banger episodes🤩
Thanks for watching
Great episode looks like we have all been through same issues regardless of which country we were bought up in ! Thank you for discussing these issues reminds us of what we have to do with our kids ! You’re both amazing ❤❤❤
You guys are so funny! I love raisins and you can’t change my mind! But the chewwari has a place in my heart. When I got married (3 decades ago) I had chewwari and an uncle said he broke his tooth on them. Thirty years later he still brings it up 😂
Also, in my situation, even as grandparents, my parents are the exact same still and have too many crazy expectations from my kids & same ideals still & they geniuly still do not understand ( nor want to understand) a lot things.. So, in a way, literally reliving my childhood traumas with my kids, lol.
I’m sorting out my laundry and watching this! Love you ladiesssss ❤❤❤
We love that❤️
Facts 😅 sooo overly protective & sheltered

I resonated so much with everything you said 🫶🏼 it’s important to have these conversations and try to change the narrative
❤️
Agree 💯
Don’t you think the parents had an obligation to figure out how to help you navigate and balance? They wanted to replicate their past back home rather than help you figure out how to be whole here.
True
Yep yep
What’s your order from Matari?!
love you guys 💖💖
❤️
31:55 strict parenting makes children great liars
I think the episodes are too long, takes a while to discuss the actual topic.
Thanks for the feedback
@@OKMomPodcastI like the long episodes! I think maybe adding timestamps/chapters will help!
highkey would invite you two to MC my wedding
0:55 "Its because of our kids, let's be real"
Hey i hope all is well in your life. Because by the way that you start the podcast, its not very well delivered to the kids you want to help. See now? Now that you see, my purpose is not to undermine what you are doing. No, but only to point out the potential miscommunication.
Ps you guys are veryy good at putting words to a concept or idea at hand. There, thats the skill. You guys have long way to go with these discussions! Any help that you guys might need with marketing or understanding your audience or attracting YOUR PEOPLE, i ll be happy to help!
Omg i hate kishmish tooo!
