Woodturning - Winged Sycamore Crotch Bowl

In this video we will be turning a sycamore crotch piece of wood. There were two branches coming for the main portion of wood so hopefully there will be some nice feathering in the wood grain figure in the finished piece. The finish used was General Finishes Wood Bowl Finish.
I’ll begin woodturning between centers, shape the outside with a bowl gouge while leaving the natural edge of the wood for a thin wing. I’ll then reverse mount with a tenon to begin shaping the inside of the bowl.

Nice bowl. You should turn the other half of that crotch so the inside of the tree is the base and see how much feathering of the grain remains at the bottom of the bowl.

They're used but I doubt it matters. Just make sure if they're used that they've dried out.

I typically have mine set around 6 or 7 out of 10. But I like to try and test it out on similar wood if I have a scrap piece near me.
