HodgePodge WoodWorks

Добавлен 29 июн 2019
Welcome to HodgePodge WoodWorks. Sit back and enjoy the only woodturning sitcom featuring myself, Robert and my beaver named Harry.
I began woodturning in 2016 after attending a woodworking show in Houston. There I turned my very 1st pen at a booth sponsored by the local woodturner's club. Ever since then I was hooked. I joined the club as well as the American Association of Woodturners and tried to learn everything I could.
I would like to share my journey into woodturning with all of you. Thank you for viewing my channel.

They can also work well as small inventory items at craft fairs. Here’s a link to the seam rippers I use to make handles for: Seam Rippers: amzn.to/3Tmq8Y3 Got a woodturning question? Woodturning - Christmas Gift for a Woodturner - Vevor Woodburner
Просмотров 2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, Harry was contacted to see if he wanted to try out a wood burning kit from Vevor. What beaver doesn’t want new tools to play with his wood with? Vevor sent us a woodburning (pyrography) kit that had two handles with replaceable tips! I have been wanting some pens with the replaceable tips for a while now so I could try making my own tips from Ni-Chrome Wire. Af...
Woodturning - The Bowl Turning Process
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.7 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, I'll be turning an oak bowl in two stages, the roughout bowl and then the final turning after the piece has dried for a few months. This wood was cut down recently and had some amazing spalting in it….and of course a few bug holes. Got a woodturning question? Post it in the comments and possibly get featured in a future woodturning video! Interested in pieces I...
Woodturning - A New Piece of Ash
Просмотров 2 тыс.8 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, I'll be turning an ash bowl which I had rough turned about a year ago. Harry’s known to be an ash man (beaver) but he wanted something a bit different. I decided to go ahead and use some texturing with my Foredom rotary tool and then add a layer of red and black Milk paint. Once finished I sanded back through some of the black paint to expose the red. The insid...
Woodturning - Twice Turned Pear Bowl

In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I and the local community experienced a pretty crazy thunderstorm a few months back that had some very high winds. Later that day after the storms had passed Harry suggested we head out as good Samaritans and help cut up downed trees. I knew immediately Harry just wanted to go get some fresh snacks. As we drove around the neighborhood, we picked up so...
Woodturning - Snowman for Fall Craft Fairs
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.9 месяцев назад
For this week’s project I am needing to stock some inventory on Snowmen for the upcoming Fall craft fairs! I’m not a huge fan of making batch items so this is always something I don’t really look forward to. It seems like there’s quite a bit of steps and work that goes into them and I don’t really feel they can be priced high enough for my artistic level. Either way it’s good spindle bead pract...
Woodturning - Tripod Spalted Oak Bowl
Просмотров 3 тыс.9 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, I'll be turning an oak bowl and giving it some feet! This wood was cut down recently and had some amazing spalting in it….and of course a few bug holes that were still occupied. The piece was turned green to it’s finished thickness and allowed to dry. It was then sanded and the feet carved in with my Foredom rotary tool. The tricky part is when you are turning ...

Woodturning - My First Urn for a Viewer
Просмотров 8 тыс.10 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I were asked and given the honor to make an urn for a great man and beloved fan who has left us too soon. Mike was a heck of a guy from the little bit I knew of him but he enjoyed a good beaver like Harry. While working with the family I wanted them involved in choices such what to fill the voids with, the font of the engraving and sheen of the finish...
Woodturning - Waxing my Wood
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.10 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, I started turning a bit of Magnolia that had a pretty plain grain. So I wanted to try out an interesting technique called encaustic painting. It’s a technique I saw demonstrated by Cheryl Lewis at @almost_firewood. Make sure to check out her work on her Instagram! It’s a similar process of painting on beeswax which is mixed with demar resin (a hardening agent)....
Woodturning - Top Craft Fair Seller - Natural Edge Bowl
Просмотров 8 тыс.11 месяцев назад
In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I dive into our stash of Bradford Pear wood. I recently had a craft fair and realized that I only had one natural edge shallow bowl on the table. Nearly every customer that entered the booth looked at it and picked it up. I suddenly realized I needed some more cause all my other ones had sold! So here we are making a natural edge bowl with this Bradfo...

Whats the name of the drive bit your'e using here? Thanks!
Robert I love your videos and i actually was inspired by you and now i do wood working and im only 10
Robert what tools and lathe do you use?
Robert, when are you going to do another video? It has been two Months
what "oil" are you putting on the vases?
La marcación con la fecha está bonito pero le faltó agregar un grabado bien bonito en homenaje
Where can you buy the brass opening screw top from? Good job!
Thanks I got the threaded pieces from Carl Jacobson at Niles Bottle Stoppers.
Nice bowl . I always have to wear power respirator for turning cedar , wear gloves when applying finishes , and lay a wooden tray or sheet of newspaper on bed when applying finishes . Have you ever used a wedge and sledge to split out turning blanks ?
A very nice piece love the interaction between u & Harry
I like ceader bowels.
Where did you get the brass piece for the lid joining?
I got these from Carl Jocobson at Niles bottle stoppers.
Thanks for sharing this! Wouldn't you think a ferrule might give it more stability, considering you already weakened the top end of your wood by boring the hole for the theraded insert?
I enjoy your videos. Very skilled. But quit with the silly sexual innuendos. They are enough to make me stop watching your videos. Grow up and present yourself as a professional.
Looks good, Robert.
Pretty cool Robert.
Cool, Robert! Thanks for the shout out!
..."just scratched the surface"... 😂😂😂
Good video. Glad to you both.
Looks like a great machine Hodge. A laser and a. 3D printer are the 2 pieces of equipment that I’m kind of jonesin’ for. One day …. Looking forward to seeing some of the great stuff you do with it.
Looks like you really need to invest in a good bandsaw
Well never mind I didn't think you were going to leave it that way
Nice project. Rather than taking the time to bring up the tail stock with the drill, just put a small centered hole on the end and use a handheld drill bit with a homemade handle on it. Put it up to the centered hole and you can drill the hole in a couple seconds. Also works great for drilling a depth hole for bowls, boxes etc. A small pill or toothpick box in the shotgun shell size would be cool.
This is really beautiful! The grain is so pretty!
Beautiful crotch piece Robert. Don't know how I missed this one.
It's nice that you show us what you actually made and how it works
delighted to see someone else who keeps turning chisels in a tool chest....... great video
Don't know if this film is any good I had to stop watching after 4 minutes 25 seconds because of the bloody stupid music
Like the way you were able to get it that thin. Very nice
I really like that. This encourages me to get back to turning after a few months break during the cold weather. I like turning pear.
Great work! I did like the original design. Question: What brand and size is your bowl gouge?
Beautiful Robert.
lovely bowl great to see you and harry back at the lathe
Looks good, Robert!
Nice bowl, Robert. And Harry didn't get in your way this time. Bill
Are you using a 40/40 grind?
Nice Robert...glad to see you and Harry back😀...stay safe...press on 😎 Joe
Nice bowl. Happy to see a new video.
A nice piece of art work sir, stunning. Thanks for all the hard work you share with us.🌿 👍👍👍
Super nice, Robert
Nice one Hodge. As you decided to make a shorter live edge piece, I was seeing 2 bowls; the live edge that you ended with and another normal bowl on the bottom that you turned away. Looks great. Well done.
I like this kind bowl it looks great.👍👍
It's a nice one. Interesting the way you fitted the screw threads. I normally have the projecting threads on the lid. Either way works.
What carbide scraper tools are you using?
Beautiful bowl, that wood is sets off the design
Thank you Robert and Harry for the information
Beautiful wood! Nice job turning it into a bowl
Very nice indeed
What burning tool did you use?
The one which I had in this video is the Colwood Cub. woodburning.com/pages/the-cub
Harry skills are impressive, but he's not wearing eye/face protection. Surely his supervisor won't let him get away with this for long.
What ink do you use on the spinning tops ? Great gift
I use Tombow markers. amzn.to/3vsW0k8
Love ❤it, just love it! 😊
