  • In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I and the local community experienced a pretty crazy thunderstorm a few months back that had some very high winds.
Later that day after the storms had passed Harry suggested we head out as good Samaritans and help cut up downed trees. I knew immediately Harry just wanted to go get some fresh snacks.
As we drove around the neighborhood, we picked up some oak, magnolia, a large chunk of pine, and other various unknown woods. I decided to drive through a newer subdivision thinking they might have some interesting ornamental trees. As I was passing by houses I spotted a brush pile ahead…..the wood had a very bright orange color. I stopped and stepped out of the truck and Harry leaped into the pile. After Harry had a taste he knew it immediately was Bradford Pear!
We decided to create a nice bowl from this amazing wood.
We hope you enjoy the video!

Really nice, Robert. The finish brought out some nice color and grain. I didn't see any of Harry's teeth marks on it. Even better.

Nice job Robert you tell Harry that beavers don't eat Pear wood and their favourite snack is white popular or it's other name aspen so he should just stick to that type maybe some nice willow is good for him to

Nice bowl, mate, though I'm surprised you didn't core the blank out as you could have got two more bowls out of it, therefore improving your profits,. Stii, it's your choice to make. Cheers.

High Harry, how long did you have to wait with the amount of wax until the bowl was dry? It turned out well, beautiful in its simplicity. And remember, don't nibble on it. 😄 Many greetings from Northern Germany, and…. oh yes, there are also some beavers here. Relatives of yours?

The tool you are using at 12:35 appears to be flat with a (round?) tip. I’ve only seen one similar sold in Europe and they don’t ship to the US. May I ask what it is and where it came from?
I couldn’t find it in your materials list - apologies if I had just only missed it.
