God, it even sounds like a real rig with all that weight on the tires... gripping and grinding on the rocks. My prediction, this will be HUGELY successful.
Someone needs to make a thin metal hardbody for this so that when you roll it or tip it on its side it takes realistic damage. Then sell a full roll cage so that when the hardbody gets too damaged, you can cut it up and bolt it to the cage for a class 3 style rig.
They already got em, well for stock... they are very very hard plastic though. If you wanted you could cut the top off immediately after taking it out of the box.
@@rcmike09 There was a guy in Washington state too, I still have one of his bodies on a modded original bruiser, a good 10 years later..oh, its beat to shit! Metal Masher was next level!!
When I started crawling I was using a heavily modified TXT-1. Our issue was servo's and finding good challenging places to crawl with such large rigs. The servo issue is obviously not an issue anymore with so many insanely strong servos these days. The second issue is still viable....in my mind. I'll stick to 1/10 thanks. Hell I think the Redcat is too big so what to I know.
Omg axial actually listened. I welcome you all to what you've been missing out on. I've had a 1/7.5 scale dodge ram from single cab to quad cab (in progress). It is a very different experience from 1/10
Funny thing is that i have been out of "Scale" RC for 5 years. A few years before that i was heavily into taking 1/6ish Nikko Hummers, Ford F350, Chevy Avalanches and the like sticking them on custom frames, axles etc etc only to get Poo Poo'd that Big Scale RC will never take off. I will wait for Traxxas to come up with there version.
This. All this. Think every time you or Matt ask what we'd like to see in the scale world, my answer is ALWAYS a 1/5 crawler. Price is reasonable for what it is, off to preorder a green one. So much win.
Ehhh a more basic model should be offered though. It's got quite a lot of things not needed to just go have fun and it's surely the reason for the price point.
Very cool! Can’t wait to see how Traxxas counters. I have numerous bashers and crawlers in my arsenal. I NEED A 5th SCALE CRAWLER! My preference would be a builders kit with a clear body. Futaba, Holmes Hobbies, Castle Creations, REEFS RC electronics and Proline tires? Yes please
I hear a lot of comments about the price but all things considered (including the reasons you listed) it's a great value! Bashers regularly put out this much for large scale trucks so, no reason to think Crawlers will be any different. I expect there will be a fair amount of these on the trails by next spring 👍 Great review, Josh!
I hope Axial releases a chassis kit(no electronics) in the near future. I think It would sell well, I'm definitely start saving some $$ in case they do.
Great review..that thing is huge..I'm sure the video doesn't give it justice on how big it really is. Just getting back into RC after a long hard road and RC is what keeps me outta trouble. I love my 6th scale Crawlers. I have a set of TSL XL Swampers on my one Willys and the performance increase from those along with the dual stage foams will be epic. My Jeep is nearly 8kg ( yes I'm from a metric land) so dual stage foam is a must
Awesome video. I can hardly wait to have one. Going have to sell some of my 1:10 rigs to offset the cost. It totally looks worth it. I have around 4 rigs that just sit around. My wife seen this and she wants one too. We will have 2 of these before long.
Wow! Those sliders and bumpers are taking a Beating! It really looks great driving in the rocks. I bet the tire and foams are in for a complete re-engineering to handle all the weight. Imagine after adding steel bumpers, sliders, etc. and some scale accessories what it will weigh and how 'planted' it will be. Great video! Thanks!
The SCX6 looks super cool but we already struggle to find good places to crawl on the rocks with our 1/10th scale crawlers. I think finding any challenging terrain to drive this on is going to be a struggle for most people and most of them will end up as very expensive trail trucks. I wish Axial would give us some more straight bolt on body choices for our SCX10.3 trucks.
This would definitely Open up more places to crawl near me, I often see something and say, “that looks sweet!” Only to get there and find out that the rocks are altogether too big and the gaps between them impassable
Hope this doesn’t go down like the yeti xl, released and super cool, but no one bought one, so it went away too soon. Looks super amazing and realistic, wow!
@@Yarjammer most definitely, I modded the Hummer body as well. Cut the fenders up for more wheel travel and flaired them . It was a blast. Good luck with yours if u give it a try. Great review Josh! Thanks for your honest assessment of the new offering from Axial. Thinking that this SCX6 would look good parked next to my Axial Yeti XL. Excellent running footage, gives us a better idea of the running features of this JEEP.
While I do think it's a pretty cool truck..... I really hope these don't catch on. I could see forest and park trails banning crawlers on the trails because somebody with one of those got out of hand. Like said in the video, 20 lbs headed your way can end badly. It only takes one (or a few) people to ruin it for everyone else, so I hope that doesn't happen. Looks like a LOT of fun out in the open though.
Seriously, but like most any hobby dealing with mechanical parts or projectiles, user responsibility is key. Hopefully, like you say, they don't ruin common foot trails, or injure some 6 year old on Xmas day resulting in recalls, bans, or law changes due to user irresponsibility. If it does catch on, I'd sadly anticipate some changes somewhere, eventually.
So Berm Peak express, a mountain biking youtube channel, has already put a 4s in it and towed a 3500 pound ford explorer while sitting on it... What the heck! I just don't really see the niche for an 1100 dollar 1/6 scale crawler, but hey... I've never driven one! Great informational video, and I can't wait to see more content on this one.
Many of us have well over $1100 in 1:10 scale cars, so the price of entry will be reasonable for many. It’s a whole different experience to drive. The cost is inline with what I think this truck is worth.
What a monster of a truck… My local hobby shop [metro hobbies] has them on pre-order here in Australia for $1750AUD. I would love to add one to the collection but not sure how to hide the truck or the purchase on the credit card from the wife.
Cant wait to see some mods for this beast! Wheels tires and scale parts would make it look incredible! So much for that trx6 I wanted, might have to get one of these first!
I can hear the excitement in your voice....being a large scale guy myself,I know this feeling.... when the 5ive t was released....it to was a game changer for large scale offroad racing...just search Canada 5th scale nationals....
The scx6 is definitely an awesome truck After seeing my buddy Logan to his videos on it I decided I'm going to save money and get one. I believe you've commented on his videos West desert wheeler.
I could get on board with this, if the price was lower. Still pretty awesome to see. What type of gears are in the axles and transmission (plastic/metal/pitch)? Are you going to do a full breakdown and look into this vehicle (open axles/trans)?
Yeah, a kit would be nice that makes things like two speed and brushless system an option. I'm sure that's part of the price point. Spectrum stuff is pricey. I'm willing to bed the brushless system is north of $200 and possibly closer to $300.
1100 is pretty steep though. I wonder where the value is in comparison to say the SBR and UDR, other large scale RC models. Maybe that licensed body is why this beast is so pricey?
Solid axle builds like this with huge stainless suspension links, a steel chassis, huge body, huge electronics, all means that the cost is higher. It’s much cheaper to produce a plastic tub style chassis or flat pan chassis. With independent suspension.
@@HarleyDesignsInc hmmm. Yeah I guess that makes sense. SBR is 969 and this one is 1100 so those numbers seem logical to me. And the UDR does use smaller gear and a more delicate build so the lower cost seems appropriate there. 1100 seems in line for a truck like this then! I’d like to see this beast next to the UDR and SBR to get an idea of how big it actually is! Can’t wait to see my LHS put one on display!
The price is definitely pucker factor high. But real 5th n 6th scale rcs have never been cheap. Thats one reason they aren't common and ppl ooo and ahhh alot more cuzz of that. It's a rig for ppl with too much cash and or the truly committed rc'ers. Imo✌️25lbs.....drive safe, lol
As you mentioned, I agree that having other SCX6 owners to run with would be the key, and strictly that. It's a unique release, so I give kudos for that, but definitely a small niche, one which I am not drawn to.
WOW - a brushless system. That is impressive! Very curious how "6th scale" hard body models like New Bright "toy" style bodies might fit the chassis. Will be cool to see this out and about. REALLY want to see one next to the good old ClawBack - still the largest RC RTR that I am aware of to date - not including the Raminator. And the Raminator is not as long as the Clawback anyways but its in a league of its own with price and operation. The price tag on the SCX 6 is no easy step either though... Still a cool rig!
I wonder if Traxxas will break into this new segment. I can already see the difference in how this thing must feel to drive over the 1/10th scale rigs, and I think that will be the big selling point.
I also will be interested when the builders kit and new bodies get released. So stoked on this one. Traxxas I'm sure is right around the corner with their version.
For anyone who is curious, a channel called "Berm Peak Express" made a video showing of its immense towing capabilities. Highly recommend you go watch that video. This however was easily the best review video i found, awesome content!
Please somebody explain to me why most if not all (with the exceptions of a very few) rc run videos are recorded with music? ONE YEAR AGO, I would have said "$1100 - are you F'in KIDDING!!??" HOWEVER, now that I can run out and buy one.... I'm saying "WHAT TOOK SO LONG!!" I'm with you Josh... Its MASS adds a new level of realism. You would Wheel it more like a real Jeep. I'd want to take it to Moab!!! I'm getting one - and already have a Large Scale Servo, from a 1/5th Scale Gas!
Hey mate it's nice rig I can't wait to get mine. What batteries are you running please what brand are thay and what mah are thay I'm new to this lipo battery stuff mate cheers
Damn thing is amazing!! I’m from Maui, Hi and was at a Hobby Store in Vegas last week and literally had one of those in my hands. Wanted to buy it but it wouldn’t fit in my luggage.
Very cool. I bet it’s a blast to rock crawl with, but it probably wouldn’t work very well for me as a trail truck. Why? 1/10 scale just fits perfectly on a single track trail. 1/6 scale with 15" track width would be hard pressed to fit on many of my local trails.
I like it but I don't think it has a place in my stable. It's difficult to find challenging spots for 10th scales around here and its usually a family outing so I'd need three of them. It does remind me of my new bright j/k that was so heavy from homemade steel parts that the 2.2 rock crushers would actually howl when then spun on smooth surfaces
Kind of surprised by how much you like it considering your haven't seemed to care about larger scale crawlers when mentioning them on the SNU. Especially considering some of them had metal axles, two speed or remote diff lock.
It's not an honest review. He's not going to bad mouth Axial. He'll give you a couple minor things to give the appearance of an honest review when in fact he's promoting the truck. That said I like Josh and realize he's do what he has to.
The bigger and heavier a scale RC... the movements of the vehicle become more realistic and less twitchy and jerky

Found one in stock at my LHS today. Got there to pay for it and found out I can't take it home until the 29th of October. Been out of the hobby for about 5 years and this might be the one to get me back into it. Gonna be a long 2 week wait 😪
Yea not a big fan of seeing vids of models I can’t purchase. Kinda like hey here’s an awesome car that some get early but the commoners have to wait lol
ONE YEAR AGO, I would have said "$1100 - are you F'in KIDDING!!??"
HOWEVER, now that I can run out and buy one....
I see why you took the mirrors off now. Mine took a minor tumble today onto the mirror and it did some pretty good damage to the body 😑
First off, that intro song is great. Second, Axial, take my money.
Finally-- wheels and tires for my X-Crawler
Thank you for the thoughtful and thorough overview 🤙
I cannot wait to see one of these decked right out.
Hey mate it's nice rig I can't wait to get mine. What batteries are you running please what brand are thay and what mah are thay I'm new to this lipo battery stuff mate cheers
For scale your gonna need a Griswold Christmas tree to put that under 🤣. Amazing vehicle
Do you recommend taking the wheel liners off? I cut mine to get the body on easier. It’s so much quicker with them off.
Awesome driving shots
Your going to need a new shelf for that beast 😁😃
Very in-depth/ thanks! & Brilliant running footage as always 👍🏼👍🏼
Now I see why you picked up the Reefs Beast servo. 😂
