I've spent most of the afternoon watching all the review videos for this model. I'm curious; how long have you guys had this and kept it under wraps? I was completely gobsmacked when I received the email from Horizon earlier today. Totally did not see this one coming.
Watching the running footage, I feel like the truck handles the obstacles more scale and realistic then the 1/10th scale trucks do. I'm for it! I hope the aftermarket picks it up and we have a chance to make them unique and our own...
YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!! Pre-ordered mine today! Been waiting for a large scale crawler/trail truck. This will be my new hiking rig. Strap 3 batts in it. Carry extra in a backpack, good workout. This thing will get ALL the looks while out in the Smokey's. Awesome vid as always my friend. Opening was great.
I'm sitting here with my morning coffee and this thing is all over my feed... WHERE DID THIS COME FROM?!?! I thought it was the redcat marksman at first. CRAZY!!!
This thing is amazing. I love all Jeep’s as I have just about every scale made. I do hope that aftermarket will support. I would live to see someone like Scaler Fab make bumpers and sliders. It could definitely use metal in those areas.
I have seen a lot of comments about the pricing. That is a fair initial take from a lot of people, for those who have been in Large Scale for a while I will say that this is an EXTREMELY REASONABLE admission price. The stock servo is going to have to go, but a good 1/5 servo to stick in there will be $100 (Hitec D845WP should be the popular choice). I think Axial nailed it.
I think this is what the large scale crawler industry needed to kick off. It's made well and has good attention to every detail. Knight Customs could even scale up his 10.3 JL stuff to fit this one
About 13 years ago Walmart carried a large crawler from some company I forgot. But I had extra batteries and bodies. The tires had great air down simulation it crawled better then many hobby grade for a a while. The body was decent thick plastic that never cracked or broke. But it was moved by a worm gear. And that is where the 200 dollar toy would break. I believe it was 1/8 scale. High low gearing. It was just awesome. Battery would last hours. It was a large 3 or 4 lb brick. And I remember it being like 6 to 10 hours of charge. You planned the day before to crawl. Lol Oh it was nylint. That crawler was fantastic. And didn’t break the bank.
We got the chance to take our LHS Eliminator Rc in winnipeg mb demo unit out all day today and are also completely blown away by it! We agree this is a game changer! Trailing footage will be up tomorrow! Cheers Matt!
OMG I love this thing! Plus I've been building 1/6 trucks using New Bright hard shells for years now finally a chassis and spare parts to match the size!
FOC, specifically in the hobbywing fusion motor, has been an absolute GAMECHANGER for me. It's caused me to "accidentally" break things that I probably wouldn't have broken with analog throttle control 🤣🤦♂️ BUT fantastic it's been! I can imagine spektrum, and this massive scale, to be even better!
The SCX6 looks like a must-have, but I’m so torn. I’ve always loved Axial vehicles and I have several, but the selectable lockers of the TRX-4 were a game changer for me. I get so much enjoyment driving with selectable lockers, just the way I drive trails in my full size Jeep. On the flip side I hate that there is no Jeep in the TRX-4 lineup. Hence my current build blending TRX-4 running gear with an Axial Jeep body. 👍✌️
You mentioned sometime interesting about this. When you said no portals actually help with center of gravity and that this truck was very stable, that makes so much sense. There’s gotta be more metal and thicker plastics on here, giving it a more scale weight distribution and feel.
SO excited about this Matt!! I've known for a while that we needed a LARGE Crawler/Scaler. The MASS makes the experience far more realistic! I've recently bought 1/5th Scale Buggies and Desert Trucks... A Crawler was needed! 👌 I've pre-ordered the Aluminum one!!
Nice, and for sure it's capable! So much capable that probably for the places I'm used to have fun with 1:10, it would end up being...let's say...boring? Not for everybody, for sure. I'm not overly scared by the price tag, but also think that aftermarkets tires wheels accessories etc. will step up from the average 1:10 price tags too!
12:05 I saw that too then I looked again. If you look closely at the batteries...one is a "standard" length battery and the other is a "shorty" length battery. Maybe they should have used words over the batteries to show standard and shorty. If you want to run 2 batteries you can buy a parallel Y-adapter, not to be confused with a series Y-adapter. The parallel Y-adapter allows me to not run out of power at the top of that hill/mountain/etc. and have to run up there to switch out the battery. Once I get crawling I can just crawl, I use two 6500 mAH batteries which last 90mins - 2 hours when paralleled together. I do not run the truck for that amount of time without giving it a break in between. But it is nice to connect the batteries and not have to open the body until I am done for the day. 17:29 Since I run a battery in each side tray the truck is balanced in that way. 17:45 I immediately changed out the foams for dual stage foams and left the stock tires as is for now. 19:53 On the hunt for a reasonable steering servo with a reasonable price.
I " home built" 1/6th and used 2.2 wheels and was able to find proper tires that look right on the rig, unfortunately the foam is a little soft. I just though that mine was too heavy! and yes the realism is fantastic + the room to hide electronics under the hood is much better than a 1/10th scale! so happy that this is out there! maybe traxxas will get into it.
I’ll say it again, your reviews and run videos are fantastic!! Nothing like the guy that says it’s gigantic like 18,000 times and never tells you what the vehicle has on/in it and then proceeds to giggle uncontrollably and say things like ‘oh my gosh’, ‘oh wow’, ‘holy crap’ and ‘this thing is awesome!!’ over and over and over again as they just run the thing in some random fashion all the while making the viewer motion sick with the herky jerky videography. So thank you sir for your contribution to the RC world. In regards to the steering servo I’ve heard that if you wire it directly to the battery and not through the ESC it makes a world of difference. I know this video is nearly a year old but thought I’d mention that. I’m gonna try that with the SCX6 Honcho I’m picking up at the end of this week. Yay!!! I’m kinda JEEP’d out honestly. Good day sir.
I don't quite understand "I’ve heard that if you wire it directly to the battery and not through the ESC it makes a world of difference.", but I'm a newb. Is that with a 2s battery? With a 3s at 11.1v that sounds way too high. There is also an option to program the servo voltage to 7.4v, from 6.0. Why not just program that parameter to get the same voltage as a 2s?
This is the 3rd review I've watched today, you are the ONLY person to disassemble and show me what I want to see! Now.... I have to have one! Gee, thanks buddy! 😁
I have been waiting for a larger crawler like this for years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hope other companies take not and start building these bigger crawlers. I would love to see a larger scale TRX4 from Traxxas!!!!
I highly recommend the SCX6 if you want to step up from 1/10 and 1/8, it's a very capable truck which will climb hills in both gears, i'm so glad I purchased it. I connected 2 off 3s 5000mah Spektrum batteries in parallel to mine with the bluetooth module so I can keep an eye out on remaining battery power and speed and stuff on the phone app.
The size of the jeep, in the running videos, makes it look much more realistic when compared to the size of the rocks. it actually looks like a 1.1 scale wrangler.
I still have a 1/6th scale Nylint Jeep buried in the back of the closet. I would have never thought someone would ever produce something that big again in a crawler.
Just heard of this tonight on Reddit. Saw about 30 seconds of Axial's intro video, insta-pre-ordered locally and then watched your video through. ...aaaand then stopped and realised I have no idea where I'm going to store this monster! 1st world problems of crawler addicts, I guess! Great video, thank you :)
Bro that's a big truck glad to see another great review. I need that in my life, but the price will keep me away for awhile. The scale will deff have us out looking for new and bigger places to go wheeling. I deff see all the normal upgrades coming soon. With it being Axial all the companies know people will be getting one and will want all the upgrades that come along the way.
Great video! One note though... Ground clearance is measured from the LOWEST point. Not the HIGHEST point. So in this case, it would likely be the differential. And with 7 inch tires, it's impossible that it has 4.5 inches of ground clearance. Probably closer to 3 inches (which is still enormously impressive for an RC car)
Dam that thing is really YUUUGE!!! I'm glad it exists, but I don't think I add that to my collection. I can't imagine carrying it to the car with my other gear, and don't have any place I could park it). But given it's size, I'm sure it'll be a ton of fun on the trail. :-)
Looks great and exciting to see what's next now this gate has been opened. 1/10 scale stuff can be expensive so I dread to find out what price aftermarket items will be on this. Will be more of a neiche market but I guess we will see.
This falls into the category of things I didn't know I needed till I needed, I see the aftermarket slightly embracing it cause its a axial, but since it really is a first of its size, it might take some time before we see some good goodies for it
being so large it certainly brings the terrain into a more scale look as well , hopefully proline do a body or two for it and some tyres too, what size are the wheel hubs , im guessing 17mm ? great vid tho
Nice review Mat. Can't wait for Proline to come out with some different bodies for this platform. Maybe some Ford and Chevy pickups, or would the wheel base be to short? The body is nice, but I already have the SCX III JLU.
Well since Axial made one, it will sell even though the 1/8th scale crawlers were always glossed over for being too big. Weird. Wonder how long before Traxxas up sizes the TRX4? Great review by the way and extra points for pulling yourself along on a skateboard with it.
I literally just bought a gladiator because of the gladiator builds lol I like the size of this one because I’ve always thought crawlers were a little small I understand the weight but they have always looked more toyish because of the size. This looks proportional like you said I wish I would of known about these because I would of waited 😭
I’m glad it doesn’t have portals. Portals aren’t very true to real modified wranglers. I appreciate the suspension design. Reminds me of a Genright Elite suspension on the real deal. 3 link front and 4 link rear with talk of ideal anti squad. This is the type of work I’ve been wanting to see from Axial.
Excellent video, very nice. Thank you for taking the time to tear into the internals and give some real dimensions. Oh, we cannot wait to get our hands on a few of these.
I own a Traction hobby cragsman 1/8 scale and love the larger scale and seems like Axial have learnt some things with larger scale that i wish that Traction hobby would do, namely the links..
With this Truck i will walk alone on our trails. Would be unfair to the Mates with their 10th Scales;) Just kiddin... I love it and i will get one^^. Just finished my 10th Scale SCX10 III and then Axial does this OMG;)
I've built 2 1/6 rigs (Newbright Hummer bodies) and you definitely don't need to "groom" trails for them. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't do a forward mounted transmission and motor to allow a full depth interior. Are the wheels 2.2 or 2.6?
I’m selling 2 1/10th scale rigs and having to toss a old 1/5th HPI Baja Trophy truck to make room for this Jeep. Prepaid for the new one and can’t wait till they release it.
That rig certainly takes up some serious shop space. Great video sir!
Yours too! That outdoor intro shot shows the scale really well
I've spent most of the afternoon watching all the review videos for this model. I'm curious; how long have you guys had this and kept it under wraps?
I was completely gobsmacked when I received the email from Horizon earlier today. Totally did not see this one coming.
I need a Garage now
@@bamabiker750 I’ve had it for about a month or so.
@@scalebuildersguild that must have been HARD to keep to yourself 😅
With this thing, would an axial scx24 be considered scale points if it was strapped on the roof?
LOL
Scale points... we're going to need a new class and rulebook for the comps, now. Look what you've gone and done!
Lol I ordered an scx 6 today I have a scx 24 so I will let you know haha
I’m just seriously impressed that Fed ex was able to deliver anything, let alone a huge 25 lb truck
fedex weight limit is a 150lbs fyi.
I bought a 70lb kettle bell on Amazon Prime once. The box was pretty banged up but the driver actually got it to my door.
Watching the running footage, I feel like the truck handles the obstacles more scale and realistic then the 1/10th scale trucks do. I'm for it! I hope the aftermarket picks it up and we have a chance to make them unique and our own...
15 months and counting! I came back to watch your review again because I’m still saving up so I can purchase an SCX6 JLU one day, can’t wait! 👍✌️

That price tag is so steep but it’s a beautiful rig!
The motor alone retails for $250

I would love to see the original Wraith make a come back in 1/6 scale. That platform was so open to be a basher and a crawler.
About 13 years ago Walmart carried a large crawler from some company I forgot. But I had extra batteries and bodies. I can't wait to see what bodies they make for this truck!! I bet the aftermarket goes haywire over it too
Some glad I just cleared out my garage and room for this beast
My big gripe with axial is that they don't do unlocking locking axles like Traxxas
I just got my first 1/10 yesterday.
Now I feel like spongebob his first time in sandy’s terrarium.
I NEEEEEED IT!!!!
Good video. I will never have this kind of scale truck, i drive a car to work everyday that is cheaper, but it looks very good, this one.
Ima get one and I've got TONS of room for it. My main trucks are a TRX-6 and a DBXLE as shown on my channel
Nice truck, nice review. Totally agree with your take on Portals. Good work. Love from England.

How's this going to work at Axialfest? Are going to make separate trails and gates for these guys? It would look really strange if they didn't.
Considering Axial and Proline are both owned by Horizon Im sure it will get some aftermarket love.
So nice! I had a feeling someone would do this...can't wait to see if others will follow.

I've built 2 1/6 rigs (Newbright Hummer bodies) and you definitely don't need to "groom" trails for them. I'm a little disappointed that they didn't do a forward mounted transmission and motor to allow a full depth interior. Are the wheels 2.2 or 2.6?
This is bigger than the 1/6 newbright. Its 33" long and 15" wide
@@datsun4x yes, between this and the fact that my1/6 figures are a little too big for the Newbrights makes me question whether they are 1/7 !
Man... That's crazy! Just a monster.
I’m selling 2 1/10th scale rigs and having to toss a old 1/5th HPI Baja Trophy truck to make room for this Jeep. Prepaid for the new one and can’t wait till they release it.
You still have your baby fingers? Mine fell out years ago and replaced with adult fingers 😂
Camera does no justice for the size of that rig.
Epic truck. Cool, but I don't think I'll be getting one. The 10iii JLU is just so satisfying for me, it will continue to be my go-to.
