Oh boy! Halloween is my favorite holiday. Cute or spooky. All things Halloween are a treat for me. Starting with first grade (back in 1955) Halloween was the first “holiday” we drew pictures for and had a donut and cider party. I’ve loved Halloween ever since. Love the tags with matching paper clips. Nice swatches on black. And now to the coloring.
What I’ve learned about black paper is it really soaks up the color over a very short period of time. If I use Derwent Chinese White #7200 as the first layer it really reduces that process. Before I learned about this my pics would become very dull in just a matter of days. I wish I had your organization down. Love the way you’ve organized your color combos and have great color pickers.
Interesting…I wonder if this is a property of the paper you are using or the pencils or a combination. The Derwent Chinese white is a waxy pencil so it would be laying down a layer of wax plus the white for you to build on top of. I will have to check my owl coloring page in a few days to see if I detect any fading…I have never noticed this issue before with all the coloring I have done on our black paper. Thanks for the heads up.
@@ColoringBliss I have several books called Black Magic. Created by an private illustrator not from a commercial company. Bought them over 2 years ago. I wish I could remember if I also tried Prismacolor white but then they are also wax. Hmmmm….Anyway the paper is extremely thick black paper printed by a private printing company. The line art is shiny and slightly raised.

put a filter on amazon and watch the prices they were really good priced last week .. back up again though .. they will come down again in like another week.
Underneath all the colors (36) put at Hearst 2 layers of white! Then when you lay down your colors they will really be bright and push the colors forward
Thanks for the suggestion. You are correct that laying white down first would help the colors perform more like we are accustomed to when coloring on white paper. In this situation I specifically chose to not lay white down first because it would prevent much of the black paper from glowing through the colored pencil and giving a toned effect. This is one of my favorite reasons to color on toned paper, especially when the tone matches the “feel” I am trying to achieve (like in this piece of art).
OMG, Jennifer, I am laughing so hard because I have that same issue! I love to add my highlights to everything and sometimes less is more. As I'm observing you, I'm talking to the screen saying, "No, Jennifer, don't do that spot," and "Yes, Jennifer, do the branches!" Awesome job. I absolutely love it! Glad to know I'm not the only one who has those issues when coloring! So many decisions! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

hey that looks great! love prismacolor pencils over black its so fun and nice to change it up sometimes. people that havnt tried drawing over a toned paper are really missing out. im a big fan of the grey toned paper. anyways another cool thing to try with these is using them on a tracing paper. grab a few different kinds to experiment with but i have used it a lot for doing color tattoo design work. you will feel so spoiled with the results you might not ever want to go back to regular paper lol, the color lays so consistent and smooth its like a whole new medium you will get silky smooth marker like results, when using tracing paper with color pencils you wont see the grain of the paper like you normally would. its something that i dont see too much outside the tattoo art community and i think people would enjoy it. always thought releasing a coloring book printed on tracing paper would be really cool.

Very beautiful! you made it look so easy a no brainer lol my results wouldn't come close to it. You should make it into a diamond painting! Would be adorable. What if you make a dia de los muertos coloring sheet. I haven't come across anything other than a sugar skull. A couple would be nice. 💙💙💙💗💗💗

That is absolutely amazing it is magic. How come your print is so clear? One mine printed version i don’t see is very well. Even with a special lamp. It is like it is not even there. So sad. I want to do some magic to. I have the right print paper. But your lines seems so much better.

I am watching this video as I type. Today is 11/5/21. You just said you have tools to help with light sources and such. I would appreciate any help you could offer on any art topic. I love colored pencil as my go to medium, however I never had instruction in art at all. No color theory, nada! My Mother was an artist. A very talented artist! I watched her paint as I grew up. Hind sight now….my heart breaks. I lost her 4 yrs ago to Alzheimers. Your Owl is beautiful!

Unfortunately I didn’t film this coloring in that format. Filming a step by step is actually very hard work. For this page, I selfishly wanted to relax and enjoy the process. We have many full length, color along tutorial videos available at Coloring Bliss that you may be interested in.
Jennifer, if I’m wrong please correct me. If my memory is right, she only used the 36 colors from her color wheels - the download she showed us and said was available to download. Then she said she worked from the head down from Red Violet in order down through the colors. Then she started at the bottom of the wing and came up the wing starting with Red Violet again. For the grays. She showed us that the moon is French grays, the landscape behind the owl is cool gray, and the bottom of the page is warm grays. Ours may not be exact, but we should be in the ballpark.

Yes. Essentially no different then printing on white, blue, or whatever color. Of course, seeing the printed lines on black paper is tricky…give it a try and see what happens
I'm just now seeing the video and am wondering how you printed your image in black on black paper. Tried it on my printer and could not see the image no matter what I did. What is your secret? Hope I'm not too late in asking!
Not all black paper is the same color. We did a lot of research to find the paper that we use in our print shop. MANY failed printing attempts just like you described. Also…we use coloring pages with very bold lines, this helps tremendously. Good luck.
First you select the book, then once the page loads, you'll scroll down and select the paper and add-ons that you want. I just checked the website and they don't have the black or tan paper in the Customize option yet. Hope this helps!

Over the years, we have found that the quality of content that we can provide is much better when we pre-record the videos. We don’t have immediate plans to do more live videos, but we also may do occasional live videos in the future.
I love the Halloween book! I’m amazed how’s well the Prismas show up on black paper. Awesome! Sorry if this question was answered and I missed it. Do you use a laser printer to print on watercolor paper? My inkjet printer ink smears when it gets wet.

I’m wondering how carbon copy paper fares for tracing images onto watercolor paper. I have a lot of 9x12 to use. I could do free-hand drawings, but that’s not my preference. lol I enjoy your tutorials, thank you!

Gorgeous owl. Love the shading and colors. I couldn’t see the lines on black paper until I got an Ott-Lite floor lamp since I color in bed.

I had no idea we could print on black paper! Is there any special setting we need to use such as greyscale or something?
