    I am so grateful that I found your channel. Out of the colorists I've watched, you are the only one who gets the information across in a way I can easily understand. Also, you are the only person who mentions how to choose your colors for blending outside of the monochromatic scheme. I am now going to visualize it as, "Visit my analogous neighbors, not the complementary neighbors." I don't know why it never registered before but it finally clicked for me.

    I appreciate that you used Faber-Castell classic student set. It's difficult to find videos with the same color pencils that I own as a starter set. As a beginner, I don't understand why many RUclips colorists recommend a super expensive color pencil set (Prismacolor Premiers at the 150set is a whopping $100+!) . . Your tips and lesson is definitely more organized than many of the beginner videos as well. Can't wait to continue watching your videos!

    Another tip to have lighter peessure, as a long term solution:
    Learn Calligraphy
    I know, that's much more of a commitment but I have been an artist for somewhere around 30 years and I think my heavy-handedness was one of the most difficult art habits to break. A few years back, I decided I wanted to learn calligraphy. It taught me to use my tools in a different way. I always drew without thinking about the nib. I didn't like the chisel shaped calligraphy pens, brush pens for lining, and if I wanted line thickness, I would get it by going over the same spot more than once or I would use different sized fine liners.
    Now, after learning that how your implement touches the paper actually matters, I use my Tombow Fudenosuke for everything!
    The combination of being forced to create by utilizing different pressures, and nib shapes and sizes, while doing calligraphy, helps to really teach you, both through your brain, and through muscle memory, really not only teaches you how to get better at learning when to use the difference in pressures to your advantage, it all but beats it into you thrpugh the necessary repetition required to learn the art.

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  3 года назад +1

      Yes! One of the things I love so much about art is that skills and knowledge learned in one art medium will help your skills and knowledge in the next art medium. It is one reason why I am always trying different art media and art styles.

    Very well done Jennifer! Such an easy teaching style and generous too! I would like to see you do a bit more on choosing the correct papers as this was always asked in every class I ever taught! I also have troubles with the newer marker papers, some are touted as best marker paper and since I mix pencils on top of markers so often it is not always truly the bet paper! I have ended up using a lot of watercolor papers rather than drawing papers. Especially since smooth Hot Press watercolor papers still have enough tooth for pencils and markers! Bleed through can be a problem with alcohol markers Just be sure you use a protective paper to save your desk, tablecloth or drawing board. I even use a piece of printer(very lightweight) paper to protect my surface from smudging and oils from my hands. Lovely video Jennifer and thanks for all of your on topic tips!

    First, love this video! I think my problem is that I think I have to burnish everything in order for it to look blended and flawless. Is this idea false? Can I have a flawless and pretty blend with some of the tooth showing? Or does layering help with the tooth showing? Sorry if you mentioned this in the video! I get distracted easily lol thank you for helping! Love your channel!

    • @ColoringBliss
      @ColoringBliss  3 года назад

      Letting the tooth show is an artistic choice. For me, I typically try to work the darkest end of the blend as dark and full blended as possible, so burnishing pressure for the final pass with my dark is pretty typical for me. For the light side of the blend, I will sometimes let some of the white of the paper show up through the layers but if the tooth of the paper seems distracting, then I will burnish it in either with my lightest color, a white pencil, or a colourless blender pencil. There are other ways to get rid of that white speckling, like base layers with marker or using solvents. So many options!! Have fun and thanks for watching.

    Hello Jennifer,thanks for sharing your rule of blending and all that you do for all of us....I do have a question for you,it's not about the Faber Castell tho...It's a question about the Arteza pencils.I was trying to check them out on Amazon,I wanted to check on the 120 set. My question is have you heard if there's issues with that set? Reason I'm asking is when I looked it up it said out if stock and didn't know if or when they would get it.... there doesn't seem to be an issue with the 72 set tho....I jus thought you might know because I know you are usually up to date on things🙂
