I am so grateful that I found your channel. Out of the colorists I've watched, you are the only one who gets the information across in a way I can easily understand. Also, you are the only person who mentions how to choose your colors for blending outside of the monochromatic scheme. I am now going to visualize it as, "Visit my analogous neighbors, not the complementary neighbors." I don't know why it never registered before but it finally clicked for me.
Just found this tutorial today (August 13, 2023)---and it was exactly what I was looking for! If you are still reading comments on this year-old Vlog, I just want to say that 'tho I may have had to hunt a bit to find this particular 'tutorial'---it was so worth it!! Thanks a million!! (I had an old set of 48 Prisma, but was missing too many colors--so I have just splurged (after reading many reviews) and bought the 150 set (arriving tomorrow!) --YAY!!! Lynn in NYC
I APPRECIATE ALL the Video's you have..Always showing us New EXCITING WAYS!! My Very FIRST Go to person!! Thanks to you and Your Love of your life. Steve and Rose..have a AMAZING wonderful Evening..loVe hugs!! 🤗🙏🙏🙏🤟❣💞🤗
Thank you again. I just got time to watch a little bit. Making plans for our wedding. It is so exciting because I have never had a church wedding. I didn't know Jesus the first time I got married. It will be small. I am planning on making our Wedding invitations. Thank you again for sharing. My wonderful future Husband knows I enjoying coloring. He brought me some really nice pencils and coloring books 📚 😍 ☺
I love your videos. They are like a coloring hug. I need coloring and your very positive and encouraging hints and tips especially since I’m having a lot of painful health issues. Thank God for you and Steve. ❤️
As being brand, brand new to coloring, this has been the most helpful tutorial that I have found to get me started with blending. You do an excellent job of explaining. Looking forward to viewing more of your videos. Thank you and God bless!
Are you using the 60 pencils? Did you know that there are a 100 set? I got them on Ali Express they are made by Faber Castell for another market, great pencils just the same, I use them sometimes together with my FC Polychromos. Thank you for all your helpful videos 🤩🤩
I appreciate that you used Faber-Castell classic student set. It's difficult to find videos with the same color pencils that I own as a starter set. As a beginner, I don't understand why many RUclips colorists recommend a super expensive color pencil set (Prismacolor Premiers at the 150set is a whopping $100+!) . . Your tips and lesson is definitely more organized than many of the beginner videos as well. Can't wait to continue watching your videos!
Hi, thank u for another tutorial. I need to practice my colours and blending as it never looks anything like yours lol. U make it look so easy. Gorgeous colours for the flowers. I need lots more practice. 💕
Nina, I have done Jennifer’s Rule of Blending Thirds thousands of times. Don’t be too judgmental of your own efforts…I bet it looks better then you think. We are always our own harshest critics.
This is one of the best step by step tutorial I have seen so far! Thank you for this amazing demonstration and you make it so easy for us to learn! 😍😍😍
Good evening.. thank you so much for clearing up so much of my confusion. My sister got me hooked on your tricks and tips.. she has amazing pictures and says you have a lot of tricks. I'm forever grateful to both my sister and yourself.
Please have more of these . You make it seam so easy especially for a person with visual impairment . please can you also have a lesson on fineliners. Blessings 💓💓
Enjoyed seeing the rule of blending thirds put into action. I have a much better understanding of it. As always you are a great teacher especially for us beginners. Thanks
Thank you so much 4 these amazing tips and free coloring pages and another clear, relaxed and interesting tutorial. I often don't finnish a detailed coloring tutorial cause i'm too tired (mom of bussy 3year old) but yours is alsi so relaxing and clear, it was a joy to watch it all, THX
Another tip to have lighter peessure, as a long term solution: Learn Calligraphy I know, that's much more of a commitment but I have been an artist for somewhere around 30 years and I think my heavy-handedness was one of the most difficult art habits to break. A few years back, I decided I wanted to learn calligraphy. It taught me to use my tools in a different way. I always drew without thinking about the nib. I didn't like the chisel shaped calligraphy pens, brush pens for lining, and if I wanted line thickness, I would get it by going over the same spot more than once or I would use different sized fine liners. Now, after learning that how your implement touches the paper actually matters, I use my Tombow Fudenosuke for everything! The combination of being forced to create by utilizing different pressures, and nib shapes and sizes, while doing calligraphy, helps to really teach you, both through your brain, and through muscle memory, really not only teaches you how to get better at learning when to use the difference in pressures to your advantage, it all but beats it into you thrpugh the necessary repetition required to learn the art.
Yes! One of the things I love so much about art is that skills and knowledge learned in one art medium will help your skills and knowledge in the next art medium. It is one reason why I am always trying different art media and art styles.
As a newbie to colored pencils, I have learned so much from your video lessons. Thank you for another informative video lesson and for the free download lesson.
I found this teaching very helpful. I struggle with blending. How you explained this technique made it so much easier to understand! Thank you for demonstrating with starter level pencils!
I learned blending with you (long time ago 😄) and i'm so grateful !! 18:11 Now I'm relieved to know is this an usual laying effect came from the pencil and not cause my technic. Thanks to you again ❣
Awesome! Very easy to follow thank you. I’m just brand new at coloring, I tried sketching, failed! Lol. So I’m trying coloring, failed. Good grief. You have given me hope. I’ll go try your tip. Thanks
Thank you for demonstrating this blending technique. I recently worked on a coloring page and tried to blend petals on flowers. I struggled to get the colors in the petals blended. I will try your technique on my next coloring page.
I was just looking for a blending tutorial for coloured pencils (it's been a while since I've used them), I'm so glad this came into my recommended. This was so helpful!
This worked out great. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us these techniques and tricks. Also thanks for all the helpful downloads. As soon as I’m financially able I’m going to upgrade to the Fast Track. 💜 Hadassah
Very well done Jennifer! Such an easy teaching style and generous too! I would like to see you do a bit more on choosing the correct papers as this was always asked in every class I ever taught! I also have troubles with the newer marker papers, some are touted as best marker paper and since I mix pencils on top of markers so often it is not always truly the bet paper! I have ended up using a lot of watercolor papers rather than drawing papers. Especially since smooth Hot Press watercolor papers still have enough tooth for pencils and markers! Bleed through can be a problem with alcohol markers Just be sure you use a protective paper to save your desk, tablecloth or drawing board. I even use a piece of printer(very lightweight) paper to protect my surface from smudging and oils from my hands. Lovely video Jennifer and thanks for all of your on topic tips!
Thanks for your comment. We did a recent video about paper that might interest you. We also discuss paper in almost every workshop we have filmed for our website. Paper is so fun!! BEST Coloring PAPER [Updated for 2021] ruclips.net/video/gqET9Ar7BYI/видео.html

Hi Jennifer! I've been away for a bit and I see that you changed the organizer to your left in the little corner. It looks nice! I'm working on logging in but there's an issue. I hope I didn't miss the free download in 2 days. :D
First, love this video! I think my problem is that I think I have to burnish everything in order for it to look blended and flawless. Is this idea false? Can I have a flawless and pretty blend with some of the tooth showing? Or does layering help with the tooth showing? Sorry if you mentioned this in the video! I get distracted easily lol thank you for helping! Love your channel!
Letting the tooth show is an artistic choice. For me, I typically try to work the darkest end of the blend as dark and full blended as possible, so burnishing pressure for the final pass with my dark is pretty typical for me. For the light side of the blend, I will sometimes let some of the white of the paper show up through the layers but if the tooth of the paper seems distracting, then I will burnish it in either with my lightest color, a white pencil, or a colourless blender pencil. There are other ways to get rid of that white speckling, like base layers with marker or using solvents. So many options!! Have fun and thanks for watching.
J'aime beaucoup votre façon d'expliquer tout ce que vous faites dans les vidéos! Pouvez-vous me recommander une marque de crayons avec une bonne qualité-prix ça serait très apprécié! Merci from Québec, Canada
Hello Jennifer, thanks for sharing your rule of blending and all that you do for all of us....I do have a question for you,it's not about the Faber Castell tho...It's a question about the Arteza pencils.I was trying to check them out on Amazon,I wanted to check on the 120 set. My question is have you heard if there's issues with that set? Reason I'm asking is when I looked it up it said out if stock and didn't know if or when they would get it.... there doesn't seem to be an issue with the 72 set tho....I jus thought you might know because I know you are usually up to date on things🙂
