thanks for the video. can i ask you to make more videos in the future about komodo accessories? Here are some examples, like me personally would be interested to watch your review: 1. which cage do you use, pros and cons, are you planning to upgrade your cage with tilta, wooden camera, 8Sinn or with small rig cage? 2. Which V-mount do you use, it's red approved or not? 3. Which monitor do you use for komodo ? 4. Do you use wireless focus system like nucleus m or other tell your thoughts about them. Again thanks for the video, it was very useful, would be cool if you could make a comparison video with kippertie revolva against wooden camera's, tilta's and metabones mounts (RF to EF or RF to PL).
Hi Brain Nguyen!
Nick Dual from Vietnam.
This is great! Super helpful breakdown, thanks Brian!
Hi Brian, Thank you for the review. Great to hear your love what we do.
Nice work, Brian! Digging this new channel from you! Nice to see working professionals doing RUclips! 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼
Thanks man! Looking forward to a collab 🙌
great review, thanks! Not being weather sealed is good to know
Nice work, Brian! keep it up
great man . Solid and informative
Well done. Thanks!
You deserve a lot more subscribers!
Such an informative video!
Great video
Some newer lenses that come in EF flavor as well as mirrorless lenses (ie the Nisi Athena and Laowa Nanomorphs) may have issues in EF form with the revolva. That being said I love the Revolva adapter it's great.
Great video. I was thinking about either getting Breakthrough Photogprahy drop-in filters or this. Overall, great review.
Thanks, hope you found it helpful! If you can afford it, I would absolutely go with KipperTie. With the Breakthrough drop-in filters, you still have to constantly swap filters in and out, and if you're in a more run-and-gun situation, just takes more time. The Canon drop-in filter RF/EF mount will also have the same issues that their standard RF/EF mount will have, including the amount of play on the Komodo body.
@@BrianNguyenDP yeah, i have way too much play on my EF/RF adapters (i have all three versions as i shoot canon for stills too). on both the lens side and the body side (especially the body side).
Great vid! Just a warning the DZO pictor zoom EF lenses 20-55/50-125mm do actually have protrusion on their rear glass. Not to be used with any speedboosters. So double check before mounting to anything that may have mounting interference. Essentially treat them like a PL mount.
Bro you save my life
However even at $1800 the drop in filters would probably still have color shift. The best drop in nd at the moment is the breakthrough photography x4. I decided to use Schneider RHOdium full spectrum ND’s, and use the control ring filter for iris control when use still sigma art lenses.
Nice video mate. Yea, KipperTie makes great stuff. Just wish it was a little bit more on a CheaperTie side. $1,800 is 36% of Komodo's price (30% in case of our Stormtroopers) - and it seems it can't fit properly with a Tilta cage I got due to that overhang at the top... Compromises compromises :)
Kinda off topic, but I was wondering if you could make that REC/STOP button work on the tilta handle
Great video !
Would love to own this one day.
Awesome video Brian. Having me really mull this haha, despite already having the drop-in system. Do you think there will be any issue using the link module? will the space clear?
I'm not about the link module but it looks like it is flush with the body? No one has seen it in person so I can't say for sure
Thankyou for the Vid (sponsored or Not), Dig iT; I shoot on a DSMC1 (ThanX fer the ShoutOut ^_#)
Really important interest I’m researching is how big of an image quality difference you notice for bringing the rear element of the lens further from the Sensor. And Esp in respects to RF Mount and Lenses; which are making steps to bring the Lens Closer to Camera. Like how Mirrored were Phased Out.
Hey thanks for the great video. I m curious about the wooden side grip by Tilta, which model did you get and does it control the REC/Stop of the Komodo? Thanks in advance.
I have the same grip and wonder if tilta will make a cable to make it compatible
Great video can’t wait to get my hands on a Komodo!
What’s your side handle set up if you don’t mind me asking?
I use a Niceyrig NATO Arri Rosette rail and a Tilta Right Hand grip. The R/S function on the Tilta is not supported yet but I just like how it feels.

@@BrianNguyenDP thanks for the links! just purchased the nato rail, clean setup
Boss content
All Metabones positive lock adapters work the same way as kippertie FYI. Anticlockwise to lock.
Good to know!
Desperately waiting for Komodo vs Alexa classic comparison!
Unfortunately, there was an issue with the Alexa footage when I shot the previous test so I'm working on putting together a new one. I'll try to get it out as soon as possible though!
Hey man, really loving your content. Quick question - how did you get your hands on the Komodo? Was there an early sale I wasn't aware of?
I was able to get a beta pre-release model which has since been closed. They've just announced the black production models coming out however.
@@BrianNguyenDP Coll Vid. Could you make one about lenses that pair well with the Komodo?
Will the ND filter block the top handle attached on the nato rail on top?
Hello, do you have absolutely no move on the ef mount, like a dsmc 2 when it's lock ? Thanks !
For the chin strap, are both sides needed? I have the wrong grip and would like to be able to use it.
Brian does the handle you're rocking work as a run stop?
Does the auto focus still work with this set up? Just wondering if I wanted to use my IS AF EF stills glass
I don't think there are that many of $10,000 EF mount cine lenses. For people with EF lenses, it's hard for them to afford the adapter because of its price, and for those who are not limited to that budget what they really need is a RF/PL adapter.
Hi Brian, as I understood it only has 6 Stops of ND right? So on a bright sunny day you aren’t able to film wide open?
This has 7 stops of ND but you can customize your own filter cartridge with Kippertie if you want a different combination. Depends what wide open on your lens is but 7 stops on a bright sunny day will generally get you around an f/4.0-f/5.6. Usually I also have a ND3 with my mattebox just to get the entire combination of NDs.
I have the same Tilta handle from my A7 days. Have you had any luck making the control run/stop button work?
I haven't yet, I'm not sure if it'll be supported without the proper cable? I mainly got it for the ergonomics and the rosette on the top :)
Do you find the Kipper Tie 2.1 filter to be blueish?
Thinking about getting a new ND set for the Komodo as well and from every example I've seen (Kipper Tie's own and your comparison), the 2.1 looks straight bluer than all the others.
Wondering if that's an experience you found as well. Still thinking about getting it as it is just a neat system, but considering the price I have mixed feelings about color consistency.
Hey Andreas, at 5:11 I show the slight blue cast at ND 2.1 and you can see in the vector scope how it skews to slightly blue. It’s not significant at all and still better than nearly any other NDs I’ve used - very easily correctable which I show in the video as well.
Hello my friend! I have a question, I just bought the red komodo but I don't have lenses, my question is should I buy the lens sigma 24 70 mm RF mount ? Or should I buy the XEEN 24 mm cinema lens ? .. I also saw IRIX LENS FOR RED KOMODO, I don't know what kind of lens is best for this camera. If you could help me I will be really grateful 🙏 which cinema lens is the best ? I have 2k to spend on the lens..
I prefer the wooden camera gold mount.
i have a question
Is it possible to install komodo wing grip after installing komodo kippertie chinstrap?
Bro what pl adapter would you reccomend?the most tiny on a market
Insane price, for a CNC piece of metal, and a tiny amount of ND glass. It's almost the cost of a BMPCC 6K...wtf?!?
LOL
You're right... CNC metal parts are expensive, of course, but the markup here is something. It really got me also when he said that the chin strap solves the wobble issue, *IF* you add it to the package.
@@definingslawek4731 thats when it became clear that is just an unmarked ad
This isn't designed or marketed for hobbyists or something. This is designed for pros who are willing to pay for the ability to no longer fumble with screw on NDs, matte boxes, etc. They are made to order. People do buy them.
My viet brotha! I’m jelly you have a Komodo. I’m more jelly you can grow a beard. Lol
Cheers bud!
Tuan
I dig their products but the pricing puts me off, I'd love to see them bring the price down to earth...
I come from a different perspective and actually think their pricing is fair. When ND filters can cost $500 for a single filter, having a combo mount with 3 filters is cost effective in my opinion. I work in a professional environment with my gear so I'm also able to charge rentals on whatever my kit includes. In the end, it pays itself off.
Brian Nguyen I’m fully aware of the cost of professional equipment... These are proprietary filters so not as flexible as traditional ND solutions. You can pass on the cost to your clients but why when other more cost effective solutions exist. I think they are a bit over the mark is all
@@mdevo77 I agree. Cool product, but there's got to be a smaller, lighter, more affordable option to keep that mount from rotating. Besides, adding all that weight and bulk to exactly where you wouldn't want it (front and high) not only defeats the purpose of the Komodo being a lean, stripped out little gimbal warrior, but also I imagine would limit heavier lenses being balanced. I'm looking for Komodo to be lean. I have a DSMC2 body (Dragon-X) for building.
professional equipment will pricing at 1/5 if it's made in China, and to be honest, these Chinese company usually using a lot more expensive cnc machine, and more advanced technic to produce the same thing, while tag like 300% or 500% less, UK and US, will cost you a hell amount of money for their "design/labor" cost. A good example is RED, for instance the 1tb mini mag cost $150-200 max, including their"design/labor/program/test" cost. and selling for almost $5000, very nice proudly "MADE IN THE USA" PRICE.
ya, this price is absolutely insane.
WOW the kipper tie surely did bumped their price! Does it use gasoline or something??? lol - cause it's $2,900 now!
Will autofocus still work?
what rosette adapter are you using?
It's this Niceyrig one: Niceyrig NATO Rail to Arri Rosette: amzn.to/2S3oB8o
You mention you don't trust a 10k lens on the $100 Canon mount. What type of 10k lens are you using with your komodo?
wait, what? you said it doesn't work with autofocus, but then in text on the screen you say it does. which is it??
Will it work with a tilta cage?
I'm not sure yet, I haven't had a chance to get my hands on a Tilta cage.
By the looks of it "No" but if you're willing to grind off the top section of the tilta cage and possibly the right I don't see why not. The thing that I hope to solve is the chin strap.
Where do I even get a Komodo is the question lol
You have to contact red directly, and there is a wait list for like 10 weeks or so last time I heard.
@@EvanMakesFunny Got one now but i appreciate it! Ordered one the day preorders came out
I got one off Facebook Marketplace lol
Great video, but stupidly expensive accessory
1800 bucks! Oh hell naw!
