    Finally someone did a review of this. I have had it since day one and think it is a tremendous piece of kit. I absolutely love being able to adjust this on my monitor and yes, the mount is rock solid. I use Tokina Cinema Vista lenses and that 5 lb lens doesn't move one bit. It is expensive, however you know the old saying, Time, Money, Quality...pick any two. This saves time and has tremendous quality.

    Had it for a month now. Love it! I don't mind changing the cartridge I just don't want smears or dust getting on them! Given the Raptor high sensitivity, I sometimes want more than 7 stops though.

    if you use this without the ribs and top and bottom brackets on a Komodo-X will it still be sufficient in terms of it being secure? I ask because I have specific setup that needs nato rails on the sides for handles and the DJI focus pro grip.

    Hi Scott, fantastic and honest review as always. I am just more curious about how the VND feature works... I have the polarpro VND and have been using it for a few years now. It's great and all, but I always notice a color cast/shift outdoors in full sunlight. I film a lot of sports and as I move around the field my shots seem to have a different white balance and color shift in the highlights when physically filming toward different angles. Their filter works by essentially spinning one polarizer with a second stationary polarizer in front of it. I am guessing that is why I'm seeing this issue, but it is quite annoying and unprofessional as well as a big time waster in post. Would this END suffer from the same thing?

    • @ScottBalkum
      @ScottBalkum  8 месяцев назад

      I did not notice that color shift from various angles. That’s what’s causing it, the outer most polarizer is reacting to the direction of the sunlight. I have seen many VNDs do this. I have the Breakthrough VND and it doesn’t do this. I suspect there is a right way and wrong way to do it. RED and Breakthrough seem to have got it right.

      @@ScottBalkum ah okay. that's a shame. definitely sold on the red E-ND now, except for the price, ironically. I'm currently thinking my cheaper option is to get hard-stop ND's for the mattebox, maybe a 1-stop, 2-stop, and 4-stop for $600. I have space for 2 filters in the mattebox so if my math is right that would allow for any combination from 1 to 6 stops. Thoughts on stacking?

    • @ScottBalkum
      @ScottBalkum  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@PabloVillaVideo I stack all the time. In some cases, with some coatings, it can cause an extra reflection, but most of the time, it works great. I did that for years and still do at times.

    With the costs of cameras coming down I don't think that's a lot of money for something so essential. Kinda odd RED doesn't tack on the cost to have internal ND's put in the cameras. That is what everyone wants. I use C70's and an R5c. It's a pain when I gotta shoot with the Canon R5c and no ND's. But the image is stellar so I deal with it. RED is probably the only other brand I'd consider.

  • @360DigitalStudios
    @360DigitalStudios 9 месяцев назад +1

    I've had it for X since it came out. The only things that are somewhat of an annoyance is the separate cartridges and no 1 stop options (But the Strata on my Raptor, and both Alexa's internals start at 2 stops as well). Everything else is great.

    • @360DigitalStudios
      @360DigitalStudios 7 месяцев назад

      @@LOMISFILM it’s hard to say. Between the two the only down side to the RED version is the cartridge. The RED one is solid and not too bulky, plus has the Cooke /i data. It can it can also go from 2 stops in fraction of a stop increments. It all depends on what you value.

  • @cokebottles6919
    @cokebottles6919 9 месяцев назад

    One issue to keep in mind is that it does not support all PL lenses. The flange depth is shallow, so some lens sets poke too far in and hit the ND insert. Ultra Primes and boosted Mamiya Sekor C’s will not fit. I’m sure there are more, so test before you buy or rent.

    • @badischezeitung
      @badischezeitung 9 месяцев назад

      Is there a list where you can see which fit, and which not? Ultra Primes a bit out of my budget, but the should work on a mount like that.

    too expensive for what it does. Sony's is way better and assuming they're priced the same it would make the FX6 a 2500$ without their eND...and we all know Sony's is way advanced than this and no way it costs them 3500$.
    is RED at it again? making people pay premium for mere attempts to achieve what's already out there and way better and advanced than what they offer? I don't know for sure but no way man...buying this is encouragement for mediocre products to be pushed out asap and at a premium pricing.
    not good.
