“I both love and hate that you posted this video” - My Wallet
Hi Brandon’s Wallet, I appreciate you dropping by. Tell Brandon it is for the best
😂
Loved those b-rolls! Awesome way of starting a video, “ok, no script”, yeah man, sometimes it feels cool to let ourselves loose in the jungle. Another great video, man. I saw that monitor at the BSC in London, UK and ohhhhh, man. Keep rocking brother. Cheers
Haha ya man I usually fly by the seat of my pants for RUclips vids 😂 Thanks for dropping by!
Thanks for the video. Do you use a screen protector on your monitor? If so, which one?
Finally! Been looking for a vid like this. I would sub but I already did months ago 💪🏾
🙏 hope it was helpful!
Yeah the DSMC3 Monitor is awesome, all that gorgeousness of the SmallHD screen with the integration of the insanely useful side user buttons! Man how I wish the original Komodo supported it...
Ya it’s amazing. Would’ve been so cool if Komodo supported it, but then again, that’s why KX was made haha
What about its for the Komodo X dynamic range? Is it 16 stops or it was only on paper?
Great explanation
🙏
Love this!!!
Quick question, when mounting both the DSMC3 monitor and the Komodo side handle, what mount do you have to seperate them?
I am looking at these two accessories with a 3rd party top handle, just unsure ho the mounting works
From bottom to top: dsmc3 monitor base>outrigger handle>bright tangerine nato rail>bright tangerine top handle
I have this combo, the Komodo X and same monitor. I am trying to setup exposure assist with EL Zone, I am making sure the color pipeline is setup to LOG, but when I select it the option for EL Zone is not available, in the style optiions just Arri, Spectrum and Map1,2 and 3. What am I missing? I also have the Komodo and the monitor on the latest software.
Really useful Info, thank you! Did you ever use the monitor on a Gimbal / Tilta Ring or similar? Trying to figure out what mounts would be needed to do that.
Did u figure this out ?
Figure that out yet ?
A 5" version would be sooooo great.
Agreed
Thank you for the review. Straight to the point.
On the one hand you're buying this as a long term investment, but on the other hand this monitor is like 50% of the price of Sony FX6.
In fact their new ND for Komodo + this monitor combined cost more than FX6 which is very unfortunate.
Definitely the most interesting comparison I’ve seen lol
I'm curious how (in practice) this compares to the SmallHD Ultra 5 TX. Is it worth building in the wireless to keep the setup compact, even if it means more wires to the monitor?
It just totally depends on your needs. Are you running wireless every shoot? Then maybe. For me, the dsmc3 monitor is great because I don’t always use wireless, but when I do, the SDI is freed up for me for a tx pack
Still debating if I should upgrade to the Komodo x from the OG Komodo for narrative work
It is certainly a better camera. I’d recommend renting it and comparing to see what fits your needs the best
Yeah they need to a new cableless 5 inch it’s too expensive for all that issues
do you know if there is anyway to add the rule of thirds grid lines on the monitor?
Yes. Use crosshatch 👍
Have you had any issues with your mount? A few people I've heard have it breaking off.
I personally haven’t had any issues
How did that 80 nanomorph work for you - and what's the filter on the front of it?
80mm worked great: ruclips.net/video/bwf6dmCUcqM/видео.htmlsi=Vxa3qquVxcyh2fBE
Does the touch screen capability of this monitor allows for the touch to focus when using RF canon lenses?
Yes
It's great but I'm waiting for a 5" version ;-)
5” version would be sick! Wonder if it’ll ever happen with all the recent changes
Wish you would have covered that mount - can it come off? Seems like it would be a pain to pack with that foot sticking out of it
Yup comes off super easy. Just a 1/4”-20 screw 👍
Thanks!@@TylerEdwards
how do you used your RED monitor on gimbals?
usually just use my phone, but can use a longer RMI cable and mount the monitor wherever would be best suited for the rig
That setup you have where the monitor is slanted because of the top handle looks miserable to work with
Been working fine for me
I want the red monitor dsmc monitor...
Link in description…😂
Currently you're the only guy reviewing this monitor. The cable behind the monitor, is it weak in terms of durability?
It is the weakest link of the monitor for sure. My personal monitor hasn’t had an issue, but I’ve ran into issues on a rental unit before. At least it’s replaceable.
@@TylerEdwards is the cable proprietary or just a normal SDI cable?
@@TylerEdwardsthe one cable on this monitor is replaceable? How is that ? What kinda cable is it ?
@@creativegreatsvisuals it is a proprietary cable called the RMI cable. It can be replaced and purchased through B&H or RED directly (and likely other RED distributors as well).
Still nobody to tell what the heck these side USB-C ports are for.
Nice rig man. Hot 🥵
Thanks! Haha so hot 🥵
What doesn’t make sense is the red can be controlled by the port keys monitors wireless but the small hd needs another cable to control it… wtf
The one cable also powers and sends a video signal which frees up SDI. It’s also way more accurate, has better built in tools and my portkeys monitor is absolute junk but everyone has different needs haha
@@TylerEdwards Also the wireless isn't 100% rocksteady and rock solid 100% of the time. So depending what and where you're shooting, I'd say the cable route is more professional
