I still want to do some more tests of the global shutter. It’s one of those things that has been hyped for a decade but we rarely see any samples of why it matters
Tyler Stalman I feel it in the footage. It’s why I chose to shoot on digital Bolex for several shoots back in the day. Has a cinematic feel that’s truly special! Can’t wait to see your results bro
Dave!! man, watching this made me so happy. Congrats to you man...you obviously deserve it. So happy to see you absolutely crushing it. And thanks for this awesome review! -Mick (fellow film crew @ STORY 2018)
Love global shutter improving, getting global shutter without impacting noise affecting DR, ISO, colors is so wanted. The Komodo looks so cute. RF Mount is a weird choice; e-mount has much more lenses, especially for APS-C / Super35 size
Indy Mogul I would love to see some reviews for the new blackmagic camera when it comes out! A review of the new aputure lights coming out would be sick too!
Amazing job on the review! This camera is the first to actually make me genuinely excited about new camera releases. I’m really thinking about picking this up when it’s released.
Absolutely! Go make stuff with what you got! Gather round your friends and family and make films on you phone, or whatever you go laying around. Learn composition, storytelling, lighting, editing. These are all things that have a minimal buy in and can serve you well into your career!
@@WesleyProductions I started out learning the wrong software (Windows Movie maker, lol). For editing, coloring, and anything you need, download Davinci Resolve (It's free!!). This is a major part of actual productions. Looks overwhelming, but lots of tutorials online on how to get you through it and start playing around on it.
100% start filming with your friends as soon as possible in your backyard because you won't always have the free time or friends haha. The sooner you learn the better you will be by the time you're my age. Also when you're just a kid don't be afraid to buy used gear... with magic lantern you can even get 5k raw on a used EOS M for 150$. So even if your mom doesn't want to buy you a fancy professional camera thats something even a kid can save up and afford
Would love to see a full comparison between this and the Z Cam F6. I just did a comparison against my buddy's Gemini and Helium and was very impressed.
Probably will never get one. But it’s amazing. It’s one of those cameras that is just beyond your reach but close enough to you that it hurts not to be able to get it hahahahaha. I love it.
Tom Kamín - Videoprodukce i don’t trust the word of the company. I’ll wait for third party reviewers. That said, I wouldn’t buy this as i pre ordered an a7siii. And if i was buying a cinema camera, I’d buy the ursa 12k
Tom Kamín - Videoprodukce smartphone companies have been faking images for years when it comes to camera tests. There’s no way a company that sells $50k cameras are going to give 90 percent of the camera features, plus an in built screen, and AF, for a 5th of that price. Dynamic range and noise is the first to go when stripping down a camera like that. Also, how optimal where the settings, where was it shot, what was the lighting that we couldn’t see. There’s lots of ways to fudge dynamic range tests.
So outside of the global shutter and brand name, is there a reason to spend 3x the amount of BMPCC 6k on the Komodo? Would love to see a 3-way shootout between the Komodo, BMPCC 6k, and Z-Cam E2-S6
Color science seems to be better to me. R3D is a wonderful raw codec that is supported everywhere. Global shutter is one of a kind in this small form factor and affordable price-point. Has phase detect AF that works pretty dang good and will get better. Best app integration I have ever used.... LOTS to compare here that make the Komodo one of a kind.
This looks like a great option for anyone who hasn't really invested into any certain camera brand. Love how they had the Canon integration as that what most people start off with so upgrading to this camera just makes sense. Would love to see RED come out with a better auto focus in future updates. This camera would be great to take this on wedding shoots with me though if the auto focus ain't there I don't think this will be an investment for me. Still, its really awesome to see red reaching into this market. Can't wait to see what they come up with next. Great video and great review.

Good review. Keep it up! Was nice to se some continues autofocus action in there. Wish I had that. Perhaps in dsmc3. Hoping we could use the gyroscope for post stabilizing etc.
A very well known Indian youtuber brought this camera and he said it's very heavy for vlogging. But your saying this is best for vlogging. Now whome should i beleive 🙂🙂
I HIGHLY recommend checking out the Tilta vmount adaptor for the Komodo as it uses both battery slots and not just one. I imagine the long term strain of the single slot vmount may damage the Komodo over time
A few years ago this cam would have super excited me, but I've gone so far into Sony land it wouldn't make any kind of financial sense. I'm also super used to internal ND and XLR etc. It is fascinating to see this from RED though. It's nice they're tapping into the mid-tier market and competing with companies like Zcam and Kinefinity who basically started out as poor man's RED cams. Very interesting year for cameras.

These gear reviews aren't always for people who are interested in buying them... they are in a way their own form of entertainment. That's how we see it anyways.. What do you mean by 'internal ND'? Canon has the RF-EF adapter with the drop-in filters. (Between the lens and sensor.) They have a variable ND option, or breakthrough photography has a wide selection of NDs and other filters soon to be released. So is it a true internal ND filter? No. But it is pretty close, especially if you already have a ton of EF glass.
@@christianjadot4459 I mean true internal ND built into the camera body like the Canon C300 and C500 cameras or Sony FS7 and FX9 have. It's hard to go back to having to mess with adapters or screw on filters after getting used to internal.
