      Diesel fuel is not flamable at room temperature so nothing would actually happen. So yeah, you would indeed get more power than this old metal turd would.

      6 years? after this they have to repair the rust on binki, so many be 2-3 years or binki will have decomposed like all minis do in that time.

    I have a suspicion that due to it being a mobile library, the round was cancelled every time it snowed so it's exposure to salt was limited.
    It seemed to come apart like it had just rolled out of the factory.

    I do wonder if this project would have been easier starting with just a couple of lengths of 'C' section and go from there, but it's very entertaining. 'Not as pointless as an X6' Harsh but true :)

      Haha tbh I can't remember the last "Normal" garage/workshop I've been in where they had all that crap. You usually find it in those "Fitters" shops where everything gets painted every 3 months to make it look pretty.

      I'm guessing the people who had the bus post-library had noticed the radiator leak and didn't want to put more effort in so they just topped things off with tap water to get rid of it / sell it to these guys or something. there's quite the mishmash of things that were taken care of and things that were half-assed, and i doubt the latter was the fault of the original owners (library use)

    The brake line at 5:00 is the most marvelous thing I have ever seen. Reminds me of a South Main Auto video where the customer had barely-functional brakes (no pads at all, just metal to metal), drove it to the shop, and asked them to fix the AC!! In MY world, when the car needs a laundry-list of repairs before it will move, the first item is the brakes. Every. Single. Time. For every start-of-motion, there WILL be a stop-of-motion. My life's goal is to always accomplish that stop without harming any humans.

    Those drag links and similar ball joint fixings.
    If you get two hammers the same size and hit the mounting from both sides at exactly the same time the conical shape forces the ball joint shaft out as it has nowhere else to go.
    The previous owners seem to have taken the engine out as the bolts were relatively new.

      An M6 bolt (which I believe you're talking about, could be wrong) uses a 10mm socket. Most half inch drive socket sets do go down that small.

      @@denisl2760 Generally when people say a metric size they mean the size of the head, a six mil bolt head usually the reserve of hose clamps and other small things where normally a quarter inch or 3/8 socket would be better just to limit the torque. Of course doesn't really account for long handled ratchets, power tools etc.

      @@lemagreengreen I don't know about the layman's terms, but in a professional environment the proper term for a bolt with a diameter of 6mm and a head of 10mm is "M6".
      Also the size of the drive end is not what limits the torque, the length of the ratchet handle is. You can easily adjust for that by gripping the ratchet closer to the head.

      ​@@denisl2760 I think he was working on a Jubilee clip witha 6mm head. You're right that the M6 thing refers to the diameter of the bolt, but in practice people typically use the socket size when they are working with nuts/bolts. :)

      Weather in the isles and all, this unit was decently well taken care of. Certainly better condition than anything i've seen of the similar age across the continent. Only recently we were inspecting for purchase a few similar Fords and some of the nut-ware was so rusted, it was merely a suggestion of a nut. So much so that the evaluator thought it was a riveted frame.

      as it was a library truck it prob had a lot of sitting about and mostly used in summer, no winter salt rust, plenty maint' and not as many miles/year as most trucks.
      if only my old isuzu had been like this, it would not have taken me two hours for each bolt

    Bloody love this build. I had a 1987 0813 Cargo as my motorcycle race transporter for 10 years. Never let me down apart from a snapped throttle cable on the way home from Brands Hatch to Yorkshire. Still got home using mole grips on the snapped cable and my brother operating the throttle this way as I drove. Mega Truck. 👍
