    I’m not a car person at all, but I do admire them as a piece of engineering. They’re such a common thing but they never get boring, everyone loves are car chase even though they’re in 90% of movies and tv shows. I’ve seen many old restoration videos of cars like this where they basically cut everything out of them and keep maybe the bottom of the chassis and replace everything else. This guy is doing everything he can to keep as much of the actual car as possible. All without glaring drum and bass music blasting throughout the video. Just the sound of a human trying to fix a piece of hardware, it’s just so satisfying to see.

    • @jwrockets
      @jwrockets 4 года назад +10

      @@ThePhillyfingers Economy of time and money. It would cost him time and money to tear down and free up the original 318. He has a 340 ready to go. By the looks of his channel, original is not really his thing. He is keeping the motor in case he changes his mind.

    • @TheSkaireKrowe
      @TheSkaireKrowe 4 года назад +13

      @@ThePhillyfingers Agreed. These cars are rare and way more rare with original number matching components. Easy mode with a junker swap is a shame to see when you can do it right with a rebuild. "Economically" shouldnt be factored in when taking in a project like this. Time and money should be expected to lost in great quantities on a pleasure project like this. Would like to see these revivals done with that in mind.

    I absolutely love how instead of just drilling out the trunk lock, smashing the steering column, you took the time to take out the back seat, disassemble the steering column and do it right. Huge respect my man. I know it's a rare car and you have to save what you can, but I have seen so many lazy people in a hurry take the easy road and just start bashing.

    I'm disappointed that you're not going to go through the original engine. It's such an unusual factory optioned car. Base V8, 3 speed trans. and no power accs. Maybe you'll reconsider? Sometimes these supposedly "stuck" engines break free with the heads removed and some gentle pounding with a dead-blow and a chunk of wood. While Hot Rods are fun and unusual, a rare car is only original once. Please think it over.

    A good video and an interesting car. Manual brake, manual steering with either a 3 speed or 4 speed, I didn't catch which it was. The rear defroster is not to uncommon as they were very popular back at that time. It was only a few years before they went to rear windshield electric wire defrosters. Sometimes with a low optioned car like this you will see a rear speaker with a fader switch on the dash. When you are missing a set of keys on old cars feel under the dash for a magnetic hide a key. I have found more than a few when keys were missing, again popular back at that time. Easy to figure out if the engine was numbers matching by the vin on the block. Same goes for the trans. The 360 is a great idea. Those are really good engines that get ignored. A lot of people want the stroked 318 or a 340. I have had a few 360's and they always impressed me. I like the car especially the purple interior. Cool stuff.

    I'm so glad you decided to go with the 360. Nothing against the 318, I had one in my truck, but it's always more fun when you drop in a bigger engine :)

    Putting the bolts back in their holes is a good tip. I do that with screws when I work on guitars. At least one of them always gets lost, never to be found again.

    I absolutely love the options on this car, gotta admit I'm pretty envious too. Been trying to get my hands on a rough old Challenger for a while. Sorry I haven't been commenting much lately, been a terrible combination of very busy and in bad health. Had to go to the hospital the other day because I was so weak and sick I could barely move. Turns out I have a really bad bleeding ulcer. I lost so much blood I almost needed a transfusion.

    Hi Dylan I'm mark from the UK England I like your RUclips video on the dodge challenger but are you going to do a full rebuild on the dodge challenger and get it back to factory spec when it was new. Apart from the engine swap as the dodge challenger looks a very rare car now as it will be worth some money. Anyway Dylan hope to hear from you very soon and keep up the good work on the dodge challenger and also keep in the RUclips videos coming on the dodge challenger love to see her finished and re-painted and working. thank you from mark from the UK England

    That little ceramic rectangle with 2 wires attached to it on the firewall is a ballast resister. Blow that and you are f*cked. When I drove 70's chrysler products I kept 2 or 3 of those in the glove compartment along with a screwdriver.

    • @DylanMcCoolVideo
      @DylanMcCoolVideo  5 лет назад +6

      Never had a ton of issues out of ballasts. That being said, this car won't have one with an upgraded ignition.

      @@DylanMcCoolVideo I had a '78 winnebago class c with a dodge 1 ton chassis. LA block 360 and an automatic. Only replaced 2 resistors when I owned it but I remember my dad's trans-van with the same chassis. That thing ate resistors like a kid ate potato chips.

    • @JunkWrencher
      @JunkWrencher 5 лет назад

      You can buy resistance wire now that drops a volt per inch of wire-3 inches of wire = 9 volts etc. Doesn't shake to bits like a ballast resistor.

    That original color on the inside of the trunk is awesome! If you ever take this project far enough to get a repaint, I hope you repaint it in the original color -- that'd be really pretty!!
    Guarantee you that the engine is locked up because one of the intake valves was open while it was sitting -- moisture worked its way through the carb and intake and rusted that ring to the cylinder wall, just like you said. Damn shame. Looked like a great engine otherwise.

    360's are and can be real muscle engines. I have a stroked out 360 to 410 cu in and it was Mopar Performance's forst run of the 4 inch crank, back 20 yesrs ago, and i suspect it makes over 450 hp and probably over 450 ft lb torque.
    Ported heads, intake, Holley 4150 HP and torque monster Comp Cam, 4" inch crank, good pistons. Never put it on the dyno yet
