- On this episode of AskEdd, I have driven almost all the way out the country (from England to Wales) to get to the edge of the beautiful and rather rugged county of Shropshire to catch up with the rather less rugged and beautiful boys from Bad Obsession, Nick Blackhurst and Richard Brunning, to see if I could chivvy them along on Project Binky.
We had a great day and at the end they very kindly agreed to ask me some more of your questions...

Bad Obsession Motorsport I love Project Binky. I know life, funds and family comes first but I anxiously await each episode to see what progress you've made.

They literally took away the only reason I watched the show.

I will never watch wheeler dealers without Edd, I always just fast forwarded through Mike. Watching Edd work on things is why I watched it, or I would've just watched Chasing Classic Cars.
The new mechanic on W D is more interesting than the salesman but I like Ed better.
Edd china and the creators of project binky... could there be a better combination :-)

Paulo N: I unsubscribed about 12 or 15 months ago. My Dad & I were following it but Dad passed away & I just lost interest. I'm 62 now so my interests have changed somewhat & if it wasn't for following Edd probably wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Special in ther case, they dont have a full team supporting them, and they have to keep working on projects that put food on ther tables.
I would def. Tune in to these 3 guys as a format at least once a week!!
You 3 need a show! Think of it as engineering Top Gear but not... you have your own Project.. Car,bike,boat whatever but you take a look at other things people have built in their sheds, Small businesses, and 1 offs. Get them to break it down, tell us what went into it and maybe show a small part of a process.
Uhmm how about adding Big Clive and Colin Furze?
Edd, why dont you give Mighty Car Mods or Roadkill a helping hand? Would be awesome to see you on there!!
Scrapheap challenge with edd grrrrreat idea. Not just presenting it but actually being a team expert and bring in an expert for the other team each week it would be like a challenge edd kinda thing but still scrapheap challenge.

Talking of Scrapheap Challenge and electric cars, have you thought about a collaboration with Robert Llewelyn of Fully Charged? An electric car build of your own perhaps, showing the process, inspiring others to build their own classic EV?

Considering the Japanese running gear, but British shell, it should merge aesthetics too. Rising Sun flag on the roof instead of the Union Jack, nice chrome mirrors mounted way forward on the fenders, with the bulk of the body in BRG.

To anyone who hasn't seen the Bad Obsession Motorsport Project Binky build videos, I highly recommend you go check them out. I genuinely laughed so hard at one of their outtakes that I honestly slipped a disk in my back!!!

Sadly, the new Wheeler Dealers lacks the chemistry that the old version had. Edd and Mike had a sort of tongue and cheek banter where each assumed a "character" if you will. Mike the fun loving, peppy, pain in the ass and Edd the frustrated genius. My wife, who knows absolutely nothing about cars, loved the snarky back and forth between the two. The greatest example, and the one that had us both belly laughing, was the Corvette C3 episode when Edd wore the "I'm with stupid" shirt. When Mike moves around to avoid the arrows and then Edd nonchalantly, and for no reason whatsoever, walks to the fan and lets the wind blow through his hair like some conceded male model! Friggin hilarious! So untimely, irreverent and cheeky- especially for a car show! Great television! That kind of off-the-cuff chemistry was a HUGE factor for why we watched. Unfortunately, as nice and cool as Ant seems, it's just not the same. It's already evident that he has the complete opposite personality as Edd. And Mike seems to have taken on a completely different persona. He seems very serious at times and not as satirical. In fairness, maybe the relationship (and the fun of the show) will improve with time. So, I'll keep watching because I love the cars, but I'm afraid they will lose a lot of their casual fans with the new line up.

The Think? Based on a Peugeot 106 with a funny space frame and strange plastics exterior panels? I worked for them in Oslo and the owner was a US car salesman. We were doing a RHD conversion based on the existing 106 conversion methods. They went bust (again) but us contractors got paid. Last contact I had was an invitation to work for them in Munich where they had re located under a new owner. My mate went down there and ended up doing stock taking.
Edd is the real deal when it comes to answering questions regarding the universe and the life we’re living. I think sometimes my life is like a dream and my dreams are the real life. Maybe I don’t really exist or maybe life in itself is not life at all. This is just my opinion or my imagination. No pun intended.

Nick and Richard, great guys, I can't wait to see Binky finished, it can't be far away now as its now painted in 2021! Its going to be one of the fastest minis of all time straight outa the box as is, but tuned, it could be one of the fastest cars. Crazy f**kers!!!
Oooh - Nick & Richard should replace Edd on WD! Mike buys the car, gives it to Nick & Rich to fix, they sit around drinking tea mostly and take 4 years only to have the car still mostly in pieces! Brilliant! (I'd watch it...)

One of my favourite projects, the fabrication that has gone into this car is simply amazing
Edd, you know very well that they would never let an artist paint their car after all of the work they put into. They do everything themselves. That means, first they would have to design and build an artist!

This was fun, had a needed laugh watching this. However Imagine if you will a show that features Edd China, Bad Obsession Motorsport, and Mighty Car Mods. Do 1-2 week builds in each others shops or even build 3 then race against each other.
The only bad thing is that Binky doesn't seem to have progressed much.
You have to appreciate that Binky is a one off build that presents many engineering challenges that my take weeks of prototyping and theory proving before implementation. The larger part of the fabrication is now completed so progress will seem slower.
I think Nick got the shifter sorted .... you know that took at least two months HAHAHA
They only have 64 hours per month at best, slow progress is to be expected especially when it comes to the real “shoehorning” part.

Great to see the boys from BOM appear on your fine channel Edd. And what a profound insight into Richards disturbed mind. Just leaves me to wonder. If he had the chance to bend the universe relative to itself, whats the chances he would attach some gussetts.

A 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT. A mid engine v6 rear wheel drive, four speed manual trans with all acrylic body panels and hide away headlights. Fun car to drive. Will also be a hard car for you to drive because of it's size.

Fun fact about the Norwegian Think electric car: the body was actually made of the same semi-hard and semi-gloss plastic as the (also Norwegian) Pioneer boats and canoes, so of course should have a comeback as an amphicar.
I think Edd's idea of a recurrent universe takes the cake (or the biscuit), depending on what side of the pond you're at.

I saw this in my subscription feed and though, cool about time for a Binky video. Then I realized it was a video from Edd. Still a cool video and great to see two of my channels I follow meetup. Binky still looks the same as from the video 4 months ago, hmmm.
