i have old w204 , 220 cdi (170hp/450Nm torgue) who eats still after 300tkm only 3.1-3.9L/100km in Summer and winter 3.6-4.5 L/100km including city drives...Greetings from Finland !
My 2.0 TDI Passat wagon easily gets 55mpg and does over 1,300 miles on a tank all without any special effort. Top speed of 150mph, cheap to maintain, and insure and is spacious. However, according to the government, I'm the pariah and efforts are in place to price us off the road... Madness.
I love my 3 litre diesel BMW 7 series. A soft touch of the accelerator gives adequate acceleration to the speed limit (thank you to the famous 3 litre inline 6) , whilst being quiet, and the 6 speed shifts without any hint that it's doing so. Elegant woodgrain finish on the interior, soft carpets, and at night the interior mood lighting gives off a warm orange hue throughout the cabin. Its run around for 230,000km, and is by far the most reliable, most elegant car to drive on the daily. I bought my first BMW in my late teens, the majestic E32 V12, and, whilst it wasn't a diesel, it's for sure been a love affair ever since. And so of course I had to get my hands on the original 7 series for the late 70s (a story for another time) - What I can truly say is there's is nothing quite like the drive of an elegant, well engineered sedan, from any era.
Anna, long time sub here and your balance of beauty, humor, knowledge, passion and being a true car guy (you know what I mean surely) puts you in rare air here on RUclips, glad your back, seriously, even my daughter is happy about it, she's 9 yrs old😇
Thank you ❤ I am so so glad your little girl is still watching me! I am back and fingers crossed I can upload even more often than twice a week 😊 and some cooler cars!
Had an E class back in 2007, private car hire mostly to airports. Every passenger said they had never been in a more comfortable car. Dropping off at the major airports, you will see vast numbers of these cars as taxis. Economical, I could get 50mpg easily, quiet, comfortable, they really are the best cars out there. I think the new ones look beautiful. By the way Anna, love your house in the background...? Great review as always.
Hello Anna!!! This the same engine I had in the CLE during my test. That engine is simply amazing!!! I made a fuel consumption of 4,6 ltrs on average. Sounds very good, very quite inside and when you pedal to the metal the roar is OK. I fulled the tank and estimated range were also 1400 kms... I love that advantage because I hate to stop on gas stations frequently. Another feature you better ask is to have the seat massage on those seats. After a long run you get out the car like if you were just for a while. Last but not least, not having a cable to carry or worry about is a plus. Full combustion engines are absolutely necessary in my humble opinion and the market is still telling the constructors that is a place for those machines. But, of course, in the near future we will experience some big updates with the electric cars. The new CLA seems to be one of them. I heard that will come with a variant of 2045 hp. Geely motors. Soon we will find out. But for me, the most interesting variant will be the electric hybrid combustion one. And let me tell you Anna, you look so elegant!!! So beautiful!!! Have a wonderful day and never let your stunning eyes get bored!!! Bye!!!

I have always had 3 litre diesel BMWs. My current 5 series is averaging 52mpg since new according to my app. I big sedan that does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and does at least 700 miles plus between fill ups is perfect for me.
I remember as a young star Mercedes Benz taking the initiative of introducing diesel in cars moving away from traditional trucks and vans. In their true form and once highly held belive - "why fix something that's not broken?" They continue to lead the way in this respect +30 years on.👌
Can we take a moment to appreciate the top notch production values of Anna's content; it's right up there and her presentation is superb, great humour interspersed with facts 👍. Diesel has been unfairly demonised in my view, the engines last incredibly well and are really economical and the latter generations are clean. The Mercedes looks very nice 👍👍
In 2009 I bought a new Mercedes E-Class diesel. It had 17 km on the odometer. 2 days later the turbo broke down, then it started again 2 times. No explanation from Mercedes despite my questions, they probably think I'm too stupid to understand a technical explanation. The third month, in the city center, the horn started howling, no way to stop it for a quarter of an hour. I sold this car and I don't want to hear about this brand again, ever
for daily use, this engine is the best. not refined as a 6 cilinder, but very acceptable. nice ride and confort as well. dont like to many screens, but its my old taste to old and real cars.
Mercedes are just beautiful inside. Had the previous e class, just the most relaxing car for me, the only downside is the hard seats. I ended up sitting on a cushion on long journeys!
Definitely a beautiful car and I can tell that you enjoyed driving it. Mercedes has always tried to set a high bar and even when they miss, you can appreciate the effort. All that said, I truly enjoyed this review. That’s a definite buy for me. The diesel aspect is a bit expensive in the states, but a 900 mile range is hard to say no to. Also, are you involved with the music in these videos? Always wanted to ask you about that.
Great video as always. As for the Mercedes, not so good. For that price, I want real chrome exhaust tips + real ac/heat buttons + better designed taillights & headlights. It just doesn't ooze style like an Audi does.
Thinking of Mercedes , I prefer the 'good old ones' from the 1980s to 1990s like the old S Class W 126. My younger neighbour drives and old 190 E W 201.
Hello again Anna! You were elegantly dressed in this video with a nice coat. I think this Mercedes is beautiful both inside and out, one of my brothers-in-law thinks the same, his favorite car brand is Mercedes. Have to point out when you mentioned how reviled the diesel engine was and still is, it was claimed how much more dangerous diesel was to humans than petrol. This is a gross lie, because in all mines around the world, as well as tunnel construction, you are only allowed to drive vehicles with diesel engines. Petrol engines are cutting edge as these are more dangerous than diesel. Have a nice Sunday and the rest of this year.
a-Ha Diesel sneaks back in under the radar, clean and efficient what`s not to like, possibly 5k cheaper and it would sell like hotcakes, great stuff Anna keep them coming, we are not all electric yet 🔌
I miss driving diesel cars from the 2000's. Lots of torque and easier on the wallet and then the world changed.... yet again. Diesels far from being the recommended fuel years ago were now to be regarded as the spawn of evil (for some of the old rattling smokers they might have had a bit of a point) so we were pushed to petrol (less economical so we pay more tax on fuel) or electric at a time when common charging interfaces were a long time away. Anyway I just might be tempted back to diesel for a used car at some point as we all know modern cleaner engines do not spew out the the devils emissions anywhere near as much as they did. Used diesels can be a bit of a bargain these days. Although I would love a modern Mercedes there is so much more to go wrong but the manufacturer does appear to have got on top of the quality issues of some years back. Maintenance and service costs will be high though.
Still has its place. I've owned various diesel cars for yrs here in Australia. Our huge Distances , & practicality are the main reasons I've stuck with what we call oilers. I do about 40,000km yrly . Pity MB Aust don't stock the E220d Here . its a special dealer order for our market .
Beautiful car, diesel the sensible choice, the thermal efficiency of diesel is way above petrol, producing less harmful CO2 greenhouse gases, remember that!?!? Like petrol it produces NOX emissions, but higher, they disappear in the atmosphere, but in cities more of a problem, you will never see petrol in buses lorries or trains, just no guts (torque) in petrol, as Anna pointed out a lot lower revs at 80 KPH than petrol (less exhaust gases) DPF are a problem as clog up if not driven on longer trips, petrol Particles filters now also suffer, as long as you get your engine up to working temperature for 15 minutes it will help greatly, DONT believe the sensational headlines in news papers, especially in the U.K. where many sheep live, great review thank you.
I have been a Truck driver most of my driving career . Diesel is the best fuel for that job andcwith todays technology its the most reliable clean fuel I have driven many E class Mercedes throughout my life They are sophisticated smooth fast reliable pwerful machines . You cant knock a Merc
Diesels make the most sense in these types of cars. These kinds are bought predominately by fleet buyers and their employees spend large amounts of time on motorways and drive lots of miles. It's the only kind of fuel for this type of car.
Our thoughts on diesel you ask! Surely any internal combustion fuel that helps to nudge the 'great' electric takeover further into the future is encouraging, supposing it was paraffin!
Thank you Robert. Yes, Americans only get the petrol versions, both 4- and 6-cylinders. I think diesel is not so much in demand when it comes to sedans in America.
The latest MBUX is excellent. It just irritates me that, in recent years, the S-Class doesn't get these things first. I've not investigated the next S-Class options, but it was still way behind, recently. The UK is particularly poorly served. We couldn't get S-Class rear-wheel steering or rear-entertainment screens, even though the rest of the world seemed to do so. Apparently, you can't get the exhaust valve switch, on the new AMG CLE, in the UK. I'm actually considering giving Mercedes the middle finger, followed by two-fingers, if it doesn't pull its finger out!
The way you are dressed today, I imagine you could be a professional chauffeur in a Maybach for some head of state or a world celebrity. You would be the coolest chaffeur in the world! 😉
It's a lovely looking car beautiful engineered which what you would expect from Mercedes and I would term it a long range tourer, price compared to similar EV you could consider it is cheap 😊
Don't have to fight with the hood latch on my 1987 Mercedes diesel. Don't have to replace the stupid hood struts or plastic headlights either. No company has gone backwards as far as Mercedes.
There isn’t a better combination than a diesel E class. I had almost every generation with those engines. The hybrid aren’t by far the alternative. Much more weight and tech complexity for nothing, beside taxes
It is a gorgeous combination. Hybrid is a good alternative if you're leasing the car for business, you will save some money on taxes and fuel if you're driving around town. I like the fact that Mercedes is offering a wide range of engines with this model, exactly what we need from car manufacturers.
Love the rear end and side view, but the front looks lumpy and inferior to the shape and flow of the rest of the vehicle. Looks like a really nice automobile
Nice review Anna as usual. I way prefer the traditional grill with the star on the hood. I hate that front end. It looks like a cheap aftermarket thing paid on Wish! Mercedes cars are far from being as reliable as Lexus or like they used to be 30 years ago. The problem of this brand is that they lost their image and now, they produce cars with poor materials with a short life expectancy, and they are way to expensive for what they are. Yes that interior is really eye flattering, but touch it, it squeaks everywhere... I don't mind to pay 70.000€ in a Lexus that will last at least 20 years without major issues and which will retain its value much better than any Mercedes of the 2nd hand market. Go maintain that car after the warranty !! Before, you bought a Mercedes for a status, for quality, and reliability. Today, at least the past 25 years, you buy the brand, the star, to show off. Period.
Lexus doesn't have diesels or cars with 1,000km (620mls) range. This is specific car for specific purposes and we continental Europeans love those cars - ultra long range, long lasting engines, high comfort. There's something for everybody on the market. Pity that small diesels (Fiesta,polo,punto,208) have dissapeared because of bureaucratic nonsence.
Hmm, that's a tough one being a hardcore Alpina fan. Now the D5 feels a little bit outdated next to the new E-Class. They need a bit of nip n'tuck to keep up. It will be interesting to see what happens with Alpina, being owned by BMW.
Diesel is the way to go. I don’t believe the climate change rubbish anyway, but regardless a car that will do 300k miles through its life is a better option than an EV or hybrid.
It seems stupid to me that after decades of refinement to perfect the diesel engine - the authorities decide it’s too polluting to the environment. The MPG is similar to electric and doesn’t pull any less materials out of the ground to make it. Electric vehicle production is terrible to the environment in its production and probably will never recoup it during its lifetime. Politics over common sense!!!
Dear Anna you make nice reviews. But honestly German carmakers don't know anymore what to do. They cannot compete with modern ev comming from Us or Asia. So no, they want us to believe that diezel has still a future. Not so sure. If you don't need to buy the car and van lease it as a company car maybe yes you could still select a diezel. But for people who need to buy this, stay away of this hyper sensible technology. Diezel engines are so complicated i.e their exhaust gas filtration that these cars becomes so delicate to maintain once they have some miles on the odometer . Not convinced of course Mercedes and BMW will tell you another story.
I have a BMW diesel as my personal car. 9 years and not a single issue. It works like a dream! Modern EVs from US or Asia? So is this why they hold a tiny fraction of the car industry market? Because they are so competitive? Different horses for different courses. Would you like to have an EV if you do not have a charger at home/work and you live in a country with harsh winters like Canada? Because this is the reality for many people. Should you go for a car that works FOR you or perhaps the other way around? In the case of Mercedes and BMW - it is the customer demand that made them return to diesel! Not the other way around...
@AnnaOnRoads there are some of your arguments correct ev ca´ indeed be problematic in real rurar areas. But please be aware German.car industry is currently in a deep crisis. They cannot compete with Asian and Us competition, thousands of jobs are under pressure. Reason for that they arz not able to offer what customer are requesting for currently i.e affordable cars with don't have a huge impact on environment. I am also owner of a german car, before had Japanese. I learned it the hard way what is the difference, and yes some may not like it to hear, but they are not reliable anymore as we are used to. To complex too much costdowns on the mechanic parts. I don't believe they will survive by investing in old technology.
I believe the German car industry is in trouble because they’ve cracked under pressure of the EU regulations and agreed to follow the EV mandates. But then they faced the cold hard reality - most people didn’t and still do not want EVs. Not only because they are expensive. You gotta charge the bloody thing. And that is another story.
Korean and Japanese were always more competitive in Europe. Yet, they have not taken over. We buy cars with our heads but in most cases, also emotions. And we aren’t that emotional about Asian cars. Personally I love Asian cars but I am not a fan of Chinese cars because most of these do not drive well. But that’s only my personal experience so far.
@AnnaOnRoads reviewers are not always representing what the real world byers are choosing. If money is not a problem than we might indeed go for our dream cars. But for most people a car is a big investment and it should not become a money pit afterwards. As for today the Chinese cars are still rather seldom in West Europe but it seems they are gonna make a breakthrough. They do offer a lot for the moment compared to other brands. But they will also need to set up a dealership network. And honestly the last 5 years the Germans did also introduced a lot of costdowns on their products mainly on the interiors quality in my opinion it will become more more difficult for them to sustify the premium they ask for their cars. It's true that a Merc E class buyer will not let his sleep for a Chinese alternative not sure the Merc ( whole German car industry ) share owners will have good sleeps the commong years. Hard times are ahead.
Haha, ok White Vanman 😉 Actually it all depends how culturally civilised is the engine. I've had some lousy 6 diesel cylinders. And often times - a van because of its weight, actually needs 6 pots...
I'm sick & tired of the greenies bamboozling us towards evs. False range predictions. Takes an age to recharge. Every charging station seems to have a number of broken devices. My 520D has a range of over 1,100 kms and it takes two minutes to refill. Does between 50 and 55 mpg. I ain't going anywhere near an ev anytime soon.
Is this a W124 or a pretend car. I think today this is a Lexus ES 350 6speed....a Non diesel that gets great efficiency. Oh and they have a button to turn off everything that is nanny annoyance. For the future, bring back the modern W126 long wheel base with "permanently" defeatable Nanny controls. Give the people want we want... Back to the future!! Germans never learn!
Diesels only work as motorways mile munchers these days. The reliability issues with short journeys means that, for me at least, hybrids make far more sense.
Hi Sean, yes absolutely, diesel is the perfect choice for long distance cruising. I am a fan of hybrids but one must be aware that both servicing and repair costs can be hefty. So leasing a hybrid makes sense, especially if you can put it as your company costs etc.
@@AnnaOnRoads Hi Anna, Luckily my hybrid is a Lexus - so far, 75k miles in and 7 years of ownership, absolutely bulletproof. That Merc interior is special though, a really nice place to be.
Mercedes see VW mistakes with garbage EVs which now costs alot VW group and they lose tons of money thinking that peoples are so stupid to pay 50000' euro for some shit as ID 2,3 which are around VW Polo size but Polo have better interior too and costs 3x less
What are YOUR thoughts on diesel?
Petrol is better.

This model has a 4-cylinder.

I like the fuel economy and price. Looks like America does not get the diesel though. At least for now, things always change. Great review Anna.
Thank you Robert. Yes, Americans only get the petrol versions, both 4- and 6-cylinders. I think diesel is not so much in demand when it comes to sedans in America.
I own e200 petrol and it is an amazing car 😊
The latest MBUX is excellent. It just irritates me that, in recent years, the S-Class doesn't get these things first. I've not investigated the next S-Class options, but it was still way behind, recently.
The UK is particularly poorly served. We couldn't get S-Class rear-wheel steering or rear-entertainment screens, even though the rest of the world seemed to do so. Apparently, you can't get the exhaust valve switch, on the new AMG CLE, in the UK. I'm actually considering giving Mercedes the middle finger, followed by two-fingers, if it doesn't pull its finger out!
hell yeah make diesels great again!
The way you are dressed today, I imagine you could be a professional chauffeur in a Maybach for some head of state or a world celebrity. You would be the coolest chaffeur in the world! 😉
Hi Anna nice car
but I prefer petrol ones Take Care 😀👍
Hi Floyd, which one would you go for?
@AnnaOnRoads Audi petrol 😂👍
Wow, great looking car
yes love but this is a full options !!! not to have for everyone
Anna❤️
You made my Day. Thank You so much. Queen Anna ❤️
It's a lovely looking car beautiful engineered which what you would expect from Mercedes and I would term it a long range tourer, price compared to similar EV you could consider it is cheap 😊
Love Diesel
Anna your reviews are great
Thank you so much ❤
Plaid flatters you. 😉☺
Mercedes G450d waving hello 👋
Love the rear end and side view, but the front looks lumpy and inferior to the shape and flow of the rest of the vehicle. Looks like a really nice automobile
First common sense new car I’d buy. Not an EV, not a blobby suv….what’s not to like
The problem is pricing, nowadays cars have an autrageous price.
I loved it.
❤
Bravooo❤
You talk a lot of sense.
New E-class diesel or 'old' Alpina D5, what are your thoughts?
Definitely a tourer.
And what an elegant and comfy tourer this is!
@@AnnaOnRoads and the driver !
A four cylinder Mercedes engine is for vans and taxis.
Haha, ok White Vanman 😉 Actually it all depends how culturally civilised is the engine. I've had some lousy 6 diesel cylinders. And often times - a van because of its weight, actually needs 6 pots...
❤❤❤
❤ Ciao Martin!
Don't disappear like that...
I won't! ❤️
that little button bar under the flatscreen looks like garbage.
Is this a JOKE ? Welcome to my driveway.
Not Even close to the Beauty of the new Audi A5 !! Specially from the inside. Display Looks clunky and the shiny surface Looks Like for old people :-/
Haha, the new A5 is gorgeous but it's a coupé. This saloon is fantastic for carrying people in the back as well!
Dashboard with tablet lcd screen looks so ugly 🤮
we dont want any rubbish EV, thanks
Kjempebra/ as usual
Thank you Ian!
What a noisy and slow old relic.
You love it
@@AnnaOnRoads Lovely car. Lovely video. Rubbish engine for that car.
