    I love the tempo in the first movement, it's half the speed of modern performances of Allegros!

      Too slow 😴

      @rafexrafexowski4754 Год назад +2

      It's the whole beat interpretation of metronomes. According to that hypothesis before the 19th century pieces were played half as slowly. The tempo was later slowly getting faster in the second half of the 19th century to make more and more virtuosic pieces. There seems to be some evidence for both whole beat (what I described) and single beat (basically the same tempo as today was used historically).

      @@handel1685I'm hearing it for the first time since last yeat and can't imagine this twice as fast in the 18th century

      @@rafexrafexowski4754 I think Pogorelich is my favorite one! I love his tempos in the variations, which many pianists play too fast for my taste

    Immortal Händel! Hearing your divine music one perfectly well can understand why Beethoven cried when he was hearing your music and thought you were the greatest composers of all time!

    2:00 The adagio ending this movement in a minor world is such a weird thing to do.

      No autograph timpani parts survive for the Water Music, but advertisements for performances in Drury Lane and Lincoln's Inn Fields announce than they tried to rebuild it, I guess everyone wants to do their version
