When I was in 2nd grade, the Principal played "Spring" on the primary school intercom EVERY SINGLE MORNING from when the classrooms opened up to until the morning announcements were made. For that reason whenever I hear it now, I am simultaneously very nostalgic and also very annoyed 😂
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to understand most of the phrases written over the music lines. It helps a lot to get the atmosphere Vivaldi was trying to create
You just have to love this. I have had composition/orchestration students, and this is one of the first scores I show to them, along with the Pachelbel Canon (and, later, George Rochberg's brilliant variation set based on it in his Third String Quartet) and the Giazotto-Albinoni Adagio. Great bread-and-butter string writing!
Thank you for this. I'm in the bad habit of watching too many videos on RUclips that make me cross, not enough, like this, that delight. I was really pleased that I remember sufficient of my musical education decades ago to follow the score. I was pleased that I could understand quite a lot of the Italian and the passage in Autumn called "ubriaco" and "ubriaco che dorme" - drunk and sleeping drunk made me laugh (I like the odd glass of beer myself). Most of all, as this music is played so often, it's easy to forget how special it is. How exciting are some of the fast passages and how lovely some of the slow ones. My favourite is the slow movement in winter and I didn't know that he described this section as being as though beside the fire while outside it rained.
I wish the harpsichord/piano came through clearer on the second movement of Autumn. I can really evoke a rainstorm and gives the continuo a place to shine.
Springtime is upon us The birds celebrate her return with festive song And murmuring streams are softly caressed by the breezes Thunder and lightning, those heralds of Spring, come Casting their black mantle over heaven Then they die away to silence And so the birds take up their charming songs once again On the flower-strewn meadow, the tree's leafy branches rustling gently overhead The shepherd sleeps with his faithful dog beside him Led by the festive sound of rustic bagpipes Nymphs and shepherds lightly dance Beneath the joyful jumpy brilliant canopy of spring
Thank you for this video! It was very interesting, well surprising even to learn how the notes for violin concerts look like. Quite different from piano or organ. I never thought about it. Many many thanks again!

The performance differences from the score at 9:33 (bar 197), where the soloist plays a D natural the after the high E. Also at 9:40 (bar 200) the soloist plays a C# and D# (where as they show natural on the score). I'm learning this on guitar. I would like to compare this to other performances to see whether the score is wrong, whether the soloist took liberty with the score deliberately, or whether they are mistakes?
small stuff like that normally isnt an artistic liberty unless you know the soloist is good enough to not do that. like hilary hahn doesnt make mistakes. if you think those changes sound better tho that’s on you,. most changes in the score come from either additions, like ornaments, or changes in volume/tempo. Most performers dont delete stuff from the score.
@@jackagnell4781 Hi Jack, thanks for taking the time to respond. It's quite showing as a guitarist to learn this and discover just how impossible perfect intonation is on a violin. Even the very best (Hilary Hahn included) are often half way in between the notes on a guitar (which itself doesn't have perfect intonation). If anything it increases my appreciation for Classical Violin. What an incredibly expressive instrument, that is basically impossible to play perfectly. Peace
@@James1Hiscox it's common for violinists to diverge from even temperament especially during solo parts. the same notes played on a fixed-fret guitar would then be different pitches (but neither are technically incorrect). For example on a violin you have the liberty to play thirds as a 5/4 ratio rather than the third root of 2, which can create a more pleasing sound.
@@Jerryfan271 Hi Jerryfan271, thanks for the thoughtful response; that was exactly what I was looking for. Yes, it goes to show how much more is involved in playing something without frets compared to a fretted instrument. I remember when I was first introduced to the concept of temperament; it's not something that we guitarists think about much until we go into classical music. Peace
Did you notice that at bar 93 the violas play F# and not B as it written? Why and what is the original version. Somebody can ols tell me more about it?

the amount of harmony between the players, and i mean like how they get along together, in this piece is amazing, shown amazingly in la primavera
