Wonderful video Doug. I was a Ford salesperson from '97-2020 (started at age 20 back then, which wasn't the norm it is today). We got an early 2005 (#193) which had the billet aluminum control arms already added (after the very early voluntary recall). Car was kept by our dealer for 5 years. As the enthusiast at the small Ford store, I got to know the car inside and out (along with Mustangs as I was the young car guy there). Drove it several times, and then got to drive some clients GTs (my one good client & close family friend) would always ask me to come get it for anything it needed in service). I'll always cherish driving these as they are just downright SPECIAL! Many people asked what it was like to drive and I said it honestly drove like a Focus, in regards to ease of driving (clutch and gearshift). My client (RIP as he has left us) always said I should have taken his car home for the weekend when it was finished in the shop, lol. Never did and I regretted not doing it. This will always be my dream car, though now unobtainable, with values so high (The Lotus Evora GT is now my "attainable" dream car) but I still dream of getting to drive one again soon. One thing I was hoping you would expounded on, is what was needed for the 4-years of ownership in terms of servicing. Also, parts availability for these are becoming a serious PITA. A lot of stuff you just can't find or get anymore. So I totally get you with the fear of taking it out. Mostly, when I drove my client's car from his home to the dealership, people would get out their phones to film it and not pay ANY attention to their own lane. Keep enjoying it buddy. Your a great embassador for the GT and it's proof that these are truly bulletproof. My hat's off to you. 👏👏👏👏
This is a great story! Thank you for sharing it -- and thank you for some additional comments on the driving experience and ownership experience. You're right about parts -- we haven't had any issues yet, but my understanding is that some stuff is indeed getting harder to find. I own a few cars with hard-to-find parts and it always seems to work out, but it definitely is a bit of a fear.
The 2005 Ford GT edges so close to being a replica of the original, even back then that was a rarity. Now, its basically unheard of. Amazing that a car from 2005, a time that I would say had mostly unremarkable car styling, came out with something that so perfectly embodies the original, while also being timeless itself. Congrats on 40K!
Yes. They nailed the styling. I am building a replica of the Original. I am 5’-7” and it’s very small. I can’t imagine how Dan Gurney crammed into it. Although, there’s a lot of leg room.
11-13k total is a deal for 4 years of owning this car. when i had my 2016 mclaren 570s they wanted a little over 6k per year for maintenance. i sold it after the first year thanks to this
Doug seems so happy with that milestone, we love to see it! Keep enjoying all the cars, blessings from Puerto Rico & thanks for the inspiration for my reviews ! 🏁
I met a Canadian guy once when I was working near Detroit. He rolled into the parking lot and told me he was on his way to LA in it. This was in 2009 and he showed me the odometer and it had over 60k miles on it
So glad you are driving it and enjoying it!! Could you give us a breakdown on what the maintenance costs were that added up to $11,000 in just four years and 8000 miles. I’m assuming the $6,000 clear wrap and maybe a new set of tires were the biggest expenses. Please share!
He has a oil change and service every year. They always find something wrong that he has addressed. He quoted the plastic film as a separate item. So I would guess the $2,000 per year is oil change, addressing whatever issue they find, and tires.
The clear wrap isn't included in the $11K. For cars like this, everything is a bit more expensive than a "normal" car -- so for instance the first service was $2,800 and it only involved a coolant flush, alignment, new wiper blades, a fuel filter, new transmission fluid, a new battery, an oil change, new clutch fluid, an air filter, and replacement of the fuel gauge. Not a big service, but big money -- such is life with one of these. Still not Ferrari expense craziness, though.
Well said spoken like a true enthusiast. I am so glad that you drive it often. I feel the same as you what a waste not to. It’s really a slap in the face to people that would love to own one and can’t afford to. Thanks for the update sir.
This car, in my opinion, is one of the few cars I've driven where you feel like it's in the sweet spot between an actual race car and a daily driver - and as Doug said himself, it's so rewarding and fun when you drive a car operating on that slippery slope having the best of both worlds.
At 17 (either in 09/10) I got to drive a Blue/white GT with all 4 options, the Ford racing exhaust, and a bigger blower. Was the third manual car I’d driven but god was it incredible.

Wow! That's a lot of miles, especially for a car like the GT. Kudos for driving it and not babying it in a garage somewhere. It's great seeing a cool car drive by especially when I'm doing my dreary commute!
Doug: Two things. 1) I'm so glad you actually use this car, and don't have it just to look at it. For the life of me I cannot understand people who do that. Can you imagine spending so much money and getting so much little enjoyment out of it? 2) have you considered buying the new Ford GT. That looks amazing as well. Congratulations on your channel. You're one of the few You Tube auto journalists who's not a pompous ass.
I actually like the dark blue/white combo. Very nice! Always wanted a GT when I was a kid and now.... Still out of my price range! Also don't be surprised about the cost of maintaining the Defender. My Tdi 300 at most owes me 3K over 8 years of ownership (I work on it myself excluding A/C stuff) and is my daily. The best thing about it is that the parts are dirt cheap! Though the ship has long sailed for affordable good ones.
I like that you bring Noodles along for a ride when you take the GT! I also used to bring my dog (size X-LARGE) with me in my 1M until one day, out of nowhere, my dog who had never been car-sick, even as a puppy, barfed all over the back seat of my sweet little ride. Long story short, even after 3 professional details, the car still reeks! The whole interior will have to come out so they can replace the carpet that got bleached by the acidic barf, and then the back seat will also need to be replaced. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. My dog was back to normal almost immediately after, for which I’m grateful, but his 1M riding along days are over now!
Dude, I love to see this. Cars like this were meant to be driven. I'm actually curious now if any exotic manufacturers have given thought to designing a car whose sole purpose is to sit in a garage.🤔
Aftermarket cruise control systems can be installed on most cars. I've installed a couple myself. They are really not that complicted. They have a sensor that is installed adjacent to a magnet attached to a rotting component, e.g., the driveshaft, to sense "speed", an actuator, e.g., vacuum powered or a linear actuator, to pull on a throttle linkage and an interior switch to control. I also added an aftermarket cruise control to my Kawasaki Concours 14. That system has a wire connection to the ECU tachometer signal. It doesn't know anything about speed, it just keeps RPM, in any gear, at the set point.
I'm glad you're enjoying the car so much, I don't see myself affording the car I want any time soon 😅 but if or when I do I would be driving it everywhere, not to show off but because I hope it would give me the most amazing driving experience. Anyways another great and enjoyable video as always, keep them coming
Really enjoyed this episode. So happy that you are driving it and enjoying it on the street and all the while, giving the rest of us a chance to enjoy it by simply seeing it in its natural environment. Cheers.
Doug you keep roll 'in , they hat 'in. Glad your using your ford Gt as its "Ford Built Toughhhh". So amazing to think that yeah 200-300 miles trip is more mileage then a "Preserved" Gt would ever see in it's garage life. I might go far as to say its Car Abuse.
I would trust 40.000 miles more than 240 miles on any car older than a day. Cars need to be driven, their engines have to be run regularly to keep the mechanics working. I'm always really happy to see someone enjoying a great car like this, which was definitely built for the road and not to stay in a garage its whole life.
Ford GT is amazing. Can you do a More Doug Demuro video on the difference between your 2005 ford GT and the original GT40? It may not be a great video idea and I totally get it it doesn't make sense, just thought it would be cool to see. Love the channel!
Officer: do you know how fast you were going? Doug: no I was in track mode, and let me show you some of the other quirks and features of this gauge cluster
It's good that you have the discipline not to feel threatened or have a shallow ego when others challenge you to race. I don't drive an exotic/supercar/icon car and I have similar people coming up to me and challenging me to race all the time. Sounds like you have that times five! Enjoy the car, Doug! You deserve it!
Of all the Vettes I've owned (six) only one was a "race me" attractor, my 2012 Torch red GS convertible. Admittedly, being so red with chrome trim and wheels it kinda stood out. Geez I had more cars (mostly JDM's with blow off valves) want to go at it than all my others combined. Never fell under the spell (which also pissed off folks) but it was truly irritating.....
Can you please please please do a breakdown video of how you keep your cars in such good shape especially when you have so many. Do you start them and let them idle once a week, do you have to move them back and forth to prevent flat spots on the tires, do you use every instrument in the car when you drive it to make sure everything still works? Also, how did you pick the storage facility for the cars you can't keep at home? Do they start the cars everyday? Do they have car covers for them? I am a long term car care noob and want to preserve my tacoma as best I can. Big fan, thank you for all your work!
Honestly I'd be really thrilled to see Doug and Jeremy talk about this car and British cars he owned(probably some Range Rover talk as well), I think that would be interesting 😂😂
That is all i wanted to hear. There are many amazing sport cars all over the world but really just few of them are amazing to drive and reliable at the same time. Thanks for sharing and enjoy much more miles !
Always loved this car, and always wanted one. Hopefully one day I get the opportunity to happily overpay for one. Glad you're having the best experience possible. Love a usable supercar.
Who doesn‘t know what TDF is? I‘d be glad to explain … I just wonder: what is Dougs connection to it that he is wearing that shirt while talking about an ikon sportscar 🤷🏻♂️😅? Great enthusiast video btw!
I know you already have paint protection on it, but why didn't you just wrap it in the colors you want? You'll get the design AND the protection. Serious question, is there a reason?
I am so sorry, Doug. After watching you so often, I have just returned to your channel after rather a long hiatus; I have returned. The stimulus? Getting my Land Rover 110 back on the road. I have to say your Ford GT still looks amazing, but getting back in my 110 brought the widest smile to my face. Keep the tires on the road with the roof poinring upwards. Power to you! (Oh yeah, I thought I would add, my 110 is 31 years old with 370,000 miles on the clock. Not bad for the old bird).
I can absolutely appreciate people that drives supercars like the Ford GT instead of letting them sit in the garage for 95% if it’s life. The way I see it, if I’m paying all that money you best believe I’m gonna drive it everyday lol
I really appreciate that you enjoy driving your nice car. There's something to be said about preserving a car and keeping it in beautiful shape, but for me personally, I'm all about driving my car and enjoying it. I've put a lot of miles on my Camaro and I really, really enjoy driving it.
There was a exotic car dealer in Lufkin TX, (yes, there of all places) that had a couple of these. I was beside the owner in a GT at a light once and man I've never heard a better exhaust note! Glad to see someone else enjoying a GT!
Ill never understand people with the money to buy badass cars not actually driving said bad ass car. If you have enough money to buy a 250,000 dollar sports car, let alone multiple, it staying valuable should be the least of your worries. Good on you Doug!
@@KimballPrecision idk if I agree with that. There is video of him racing it on an actual strip. I also don’t blame him about being annoyed by every tom, dick and harry trying to race him. Happens to me in my TRX from every dude in his rusted out chevy with an exhaust. Its funny the first couple times, but after people try to race you leaving the school parking lot, it gets old.
The value increase is crazy, my Father bought a 2008 Ferrari Scud 6 years ago, he drives it now and then and it only has 2400 miles. At this time the prices has increased by 54%
It's amazing how much better this Ford GT is aging then it's replacement. The replacement is a very cool car but it seems like such a soulless thing. This one is my number one bucket list vehicle.
Half into this video I just realised I’m always taking care of other people and I completely neglected my self. I can afford to get a really nice car but I was always too scared to buy expensive stuff I guess I need to man up.
No you wouldn’t say a Ferrari was reliable. A fun reliable exotic sports car made by a large manufacturer cobbled together with a modified lightning engine, and Ford era parts. I absolutely love these cars so grossly American and just cool, maybe some day😊. Great job with the commentary as always Doug.
Woah a new upload at 10 AM (at least here in Connecticut)!. Loving your GT, and I thought it had even more miles than that, but 40k miles is still very impressive for a 2005 model!! I'm super excited for the Mazda speed 3 review that I've been waiting for over the last 5 years, and I think that's the same Mazda speed 3 that The Topher (Winding Road Magazine) reviewed. Anyways.. looking forward for it!!
@DougDeMuro, If you had the option, would you trade your current GT for one of the new ones? By the way, I realize that this is impossible, but just curious.
I know someone who has a Dodge Viper he's got sitting in his garage because it's his retirement. He used to drive it when it was still fairly new but when he realized the value of it, he decided to keep it garaged. Still looks pristine from what I saw of it and looks like he still takes pretty good care of it.
I'd have to agree with Uncle Cletus... it doesn't seem like 4 years! Doug does an amazing job of relating his experiences and emotions with this car. Thank you for sharing!
I'm still waiting for the day Doug says at the beginning, during his Cars and Bids intro: "Before I get started, big news, this Ford GT is currently.....not for sale, still mine and I love it!"
IMO one of the most beautiful cars every built. If I could experience any car it would be this era Ford GT. I love that there are kit cars out there of it these days.
1) What would the value hit be if you repainted it to the white w/blue colour combo? 2) Would you consider a wrap to get the gulf colours, a sort of best of both worlds?
I thought the same thing. He could afford to get it wrapped. As for the other mike saying it'd look bad, he couldn't tell a wrapped car from a painted one.
Wow. I bought an Audi R8 v10 manual the same month and year. Put about 10,000 miles on it. And it has appreciated around 40% over what I paid for it. I have totally loved the car and it has been very affordable to own. Both winners.
Loved the comment on the racing. I own two Lexus SC400s. One is "normal" and I have no issues. The other is lowered, is straight piped, and has a flowmaster. EVERY SINGLE TIME I drive it, someone wants to race. lol
Is anyone flabbergasted that he’s had the car for 4 years already?! Man time has gone by fast
I was thinking the same. I remember when he bought it. I “might” spend too much time on RUclips.
I'm a minor, but I feel the same way as a fellow follower of Doug since 2016.
I’m more flabbergasted it made it 40,000 miles 😊
Smash Mouth was right
My exact thought!
Thank you for actually driving yours and enjoying it instead of letting it sit in a garage for its life.
This is why we love him, he is an actual car enthusiast.
That's what's great about him. Just doesn't make sense to keep a car in a garage not drive it much or at all and letting it collect dust.
And not modifying it too
Yeah he drove 8 thousand miles in 4 years LOL
Yeah I legitimately respect Doug for putting miles on his GT. I wish more wealthy car enthusiasts were the same.
Here's to 80k miles Doug! It's cool seeing someone drive this car instead of using it as a garage queen.
At 2000 miles a year we’ll never see 80k

Also, how did you pick the storage facility for the cars you can't keep at home? Do they start the cars everyday? Do they have car covers for them? I am a long term car care noob and want to preserve my tacoma as best I can. Big fan, thank you for all your work!
Likely just pays someone
Honestly I'd be really thrilled to see Doug and Jeremy talk about this car and British cars he owned(probably some Range Rover talk as well), I think that would be interesting 😂😂
ooh that mazda3 hatch in the intro looks nice can't wait to see the review
This is the reason Doug is the only car channel car guy I subscribe to.
I'm so stoked that you're finally doing a video on the gen2 speed3!
Who doesn‘t know what TDF is? I‘d be glad to explain … I just wonder: what is Dougs connection to it that he is wearing that shirt while talking about an ikon sportscar 🤷🏻♂️😅? Great enthusiast video btw!
Awesome. And which just goes to show that there's a difference between enthusiast "owners" vs. "drivers." Love it.
Usually vehicles are not investments but when one is it’s a bonus 😊
I really appreciate that you enjoy driving your nice car. There's something to be said about preserving a car and keeping it in beautiful shape, but for me personally, I'm all about driving my car and enjoying it. I've put a lot of miles on my Camaro and I really, really enjoy driving it.
There was a exotic car dealer in Lufkin TX, (yes, there of all places) that had a couple of these. I was beside the owner in a GT at a light once and man I've never heard a better exhaust note! Glad to see someone else enjoying a GT!
Wow that is so not remotely interesting to anyone but you
Wow, my 19 year old Ford truck that I drive every day costs me a few hundred bucks a year to maintain, and has never failed me ever.
I always enjoy Doug's videos but this one is particularly awesome 👏👏👏👏👏👍😁🏁
Ill never understand people with the money to buy badass cars not actually driving said bad ass car. If you have enough money to buy a 250,000 dollar sports car, let alone multiple, it staying valuable should be the least of your worries. Good on you Doug!
Sounds like he’s afraid to go over the speed limit in it. Might as well park it if you don’t have fun in it
@@KimballPrecision idk if I agree with that.
At this time the prices has increased by 54%
the fact that Doug can probably sell this GT for $320k+ and profit insanely but he decides to drive it instead - respect!
Seems like just a year ago you got it, wow!
Doug's the type of guy to buy a half million dollar car before owning a house. AS AM I!
Doug the type of guy to drop a view of a massive garage like it’s no biggie lol
Why are there some license plates missing from the wall? 😕
It's your dream car! Enjoy it! Don't worry about the mileage. I own a 2022 GT500 and in 2 months, I've driven 2550 miles. I'm enjoying it!
I love how you keep track, manage, and organize everything about every car
literally his job
Woah a new upload at 10 AM (at least here in Connecticut)!. Loving your GT, and I thought it had even more miles than that, but 40k miles is still very impressive for a 2005 model!! I'm super excited for the Mazda speed 3 review that I've been waiting for over the last 5 years, and I think that's the same Mazda speed 3 that The Topher (Winding Road Magazine) reviewed. Anyways.. looking forward for it!!
Right on. Cars that don’t get driven atrophy over time and will never run right without an extensive rebuild.
@DougDeMuro, If you had the option, would you trade your current GT for one of the new ones? By the way, I realize that this is impossible, but just curious.
now that's some pretty impressive mileage!
Yeah, impressive it held together that long.
I know someone who has a Dodge Viper he's got sitting in his garage because it's his retirement. He used to drive it when it was still fairly new but when he realized the value of it, he decided to keep it garaged. Still looks pristine from what I saw of it and looks like he still takes pretty good care of it.
I know someone who thought that about the prowler but they didn't accrue in value like the viper or gt.
That is the stupidest retirement plan I've ever heard in my entire life.
Doug you made the right color choice. Blue with white stripes 👍🏼👌🏼
I'd have to agree with Uncle Cletus... it doesn't seem like 4 years! Doug does an amazing job of relating his experiences and emotions with this car. Thank you for sharing!
When Doug sells this car hoovie will definitely want it😂😂😂😂
But are you going to test drive the Fisker Ocean in Austria next week? That's what I want to know.
The colors are great! Be thankful that you have it.
There’s a heritage edition with the number delete with the plastic still on the seats at a local dealer…..has 50 miles on it.
I'm still waiting for the day Doug says at the beginning, during his Cars and Bids intro: "Before I get started, big news, this Ford GT is currently.....not for sale, still mine and I love it!"
This is Doug Demuro and it's now 40 000 miles!
IMO one of the most beautiful cars every built. If I could experience any car it would be this era Ford GT. I love that there are kit cars out there of it these days.
Thanks Doug!! I was on the fence about to buy a house but you change my mind🙏
Good recap video.
Yo Doug, go get that color that you truly desire.
I'll be honest I thought for sure that guy "lining up" was gonna be a challenger or charger haha. All day long in my car.
You are welcome.
Thanks for the video and stay safe ✌️
1) What would the value hit be if you repainted it to the white w/blue colour combo?
2) Would you consider a wrap to get the gulf colours, a sort of best of both worlds?
that'd look petty bad tbh.
just my opinion i think this is the best color for Ford GT yes better than the Gulf one , i don't think it looks good in white.
I thought the same thing. He could afford to get it wrapped. As for the other mike saying it'd look bad, he couldn't tell a wrapped car from a painted one.
Waking up to Daddy Doug on a Sunday 💯
You should of been up hours ago
@@paulie-Gualtieri. thought you died
At least you’re driving the damn thing, cheers Doug.
EVERY SINGLE TIME I drive it, someone wants to race. lol
This is my ALL TIME Favorite car ever!!
Thanks for driving it Doug
