- I read and reacted to the whole Chainsaw Man manga series in one day, and gave my first impressions during this read a long! This manga has been on my to read list for so long, and I finally decided to dive into it. My only regret, is not jumping into this series sooner!

One of the only theory Fujimoto confirmed is that Denji loves Makima with the love of a child for his mother. It’s hinted a lot of times in the manga like the parallel to Oedipus’ syndrome/myth and the pun “cutting the ‘ki’ (tree in Japanese) in Makima makes Mama”. So Denji eating her to grow and ending taking care of Nayuta the new Control Devil like a father is kinda poetic.
Ohhh I definitely can see the Oedipus complex in part one, that's a good comparison. Also, agreed! I really did that enjoy that choice as an ending, and I think it's going to make for some interesting plot lines in the future

Fujimoto is such a masterful storyteller… if it wasn’t obvious after Chainsaw Man, his one-shot Goodbye, Eri really proved it to me tbh. I’m already seeing a lot of recurring concepts in his works so I’m looking forward to checking out the rest, and of course CSM part 2 when it drops.

@@themangoose As far as I know the only physical copy available is in Japanese and was only released recently, so it might take a while for an English version to drop… Still, definitely check it out when it does 🙏

Good stuff man, definitely recommend giving it a reread. It’s actually even better the second time through, you can miss a lot the first time. Also I highly recommend checking out Fujimoto’s other work, his recent one-shots are gripping and some of his best writing (both Look Back and Goodbye Eri). Plus Fire Punch which was his first serialization in Jump+.
Yeah I think he misunderstood a lot in the volume 8 cause all the twists and information xD
Thank you, and I definitely plan on it! It was such an enjoyable read! I'll definitely have to check those out, I'd love to get more of his work. I have the first couple volumes, but need to find the rest!
I think it sounds a bit snobbish to say this but one of the few aspects keeping Chainsaw Man a 9 for me is that it benefits too much from a reread. If you only read it the one time you can end up missing out on a lot, which is a pretty big deal for a series so short and dense as this one.
@@themrrental2509 nah, I agree for sure! There's songs or movies I've even watched a number of times I still discover something new from. This series had too much content to not reread it!
The Eternity Devil Arc was definitely what got me totally committed to the manga as well, before then I was a bit more cautious but after that I just binged
It's an absolute roller coaster. Tatsuki Fujimoto is the GOAT. Chainsaw Man is my the most favourite new gen shonen. Can't wait for the anime.

An importent misstranslation to point out, "Control Devil" is actually a misstranslation and Makima was one of the 4 horsemen, Conquest.

Actually, in japanese I've heard that the kanji of "control" means either Control, Domination and Conquest. just wanted to precise it

She's so evil, but such a great character 😓
i also heavily heavily vouch for fujimotos one shots (look back, goodbye eri). I was already in love with his work on fire punch + csm but those one shots solidified his writing for me

Thank you for channeling my feelings from reading CSM for the first time. Part 2 took a very different turn in pacing, but does not yield in being interesting and surprising. Last two chapters were huge cliff hangers that made me want to sleep for a week so I can wake up and read the next chapter immediately. :)

I don't know if you said this later, i watched the whole video but i may have just missed it lol, but chainsaw man and Denji are two separate entities, Denji can eat a devil and they will still be reborn (as you see at the end with the control devil), but if chainsaw man does it (the big beast denji transformed into) they'll cease to exist

chainsaw man isnt the manga that you can binge read, your brain gonna be deep fried after all those info, all of those deaths, all of those dialogue, and other fights and gore, fujimoto quirky storyline, yea, my brain cant keep up when i read the first 3 volume.
haha yea definitely going to reread it so I can make sure I understand as much as possible before I jump into part two!

If you really like chainsaw man you would probably also like some of Manga and anime that influenced chainsaw man such as devilman and flcl! You can really see how he was inspired by them when you watch/read them ^^

Your mistake in volume 7 repeating what angel says it’s meaning is that devils remember the last sound they heard in hell before dying and a lot of them remember the sound of a chainsaw

Not sure if you picked this up since your video released, but when Power was killed the contract Denji had with Pochita was broken, therefore Denji died and Pochita took his true form(the super powerful chainsaw man). Pochitas true form is what Makima kept referring to when talking about "the chainsaw man". Pochita went to eat a burger and go on a date to find reasons for Denji to keep on living. Since that didnt work Pochita asked Power to save Denji, and she essentially brought him back to life.
This man has masterful writing underneath all the chaos

I really didn't like your comparison of Marvel movie humor with the humor in this manga. Marvel movies are just quips and references, and they are suffocating, its joke after joke there is no moment that isn't ruined by a joke in marvel movies, and its use as a tool to break up the action and drama is practically redundant as marvel movies in general are pretty lax, while chainsaw man truly needs something like jokes to rest as its world is 100% more dark and brutal, and also the jokes in chainsaw man are better and aren't written by some corporate bot trying to make the most vanilla, basic ass joke ever.
TLDR: the chainsaw man manga is more cinema than marvel
thank you for sharing why you disagreed. I actually am glad to hear others' perspective that disagree and why. I can also definitely see where you're coming from and would agree that fujimoto's writing is far superior to any writers of superhero movies too

You're so lost with what's actually going on on a deeper level in this manga if you think it's childish at times lol (not to mention you misunderstood many parts of the manga, you probably have been corrected on most by now, hopefully).
speed reading manga is ultra cringe
I tried to read it all but couldn’t In one go it seemed ever cliche and mid to me nothing I haven’t seen in every demon slaying devil hunting anime they barely built Ali and Denjis relationship so why should I care for how it ended the characters even denji were pretty bland to me besides Power she was the only thing that kept me reading the Makima twist was so easy to predict I don’t know how people were shocked by that I didn’t like her as a character either overall the characters were mid the story was pretty mid the themes were mid and I just really didn’t enjoy it that much at all I really think this is just another flavor of the month manga

@@TestsubjexI can agree on the fact that the makima twist was pretty predictable, for the characters I found them interesting denji for being apathetic because he never live a normal life and call him bland I think is incorrect what I will call bland are that tropes in anime where there is the main character that don’t have any personality or maybe is kind just to make people empathize with him, for Aki the fact that you didn’t care about is pretty understandable for the little screen time he got because you see the prospective of denji, I don’t think it’s mid for me it’s above it because you can’t compare it with demon slayer c’mon.At the end I just want to ask you what were the cliche that you have seen?

My favorite volume was probably 3 just because I really enjoyed the eternity devil scene!
