I think one of Fujimoto's hidden strengths is how he shows intimacy through gross-out humor of all things. Helping each other throw up, getting mad at each other over clogging the toilet, or my personal favorite, Denji and Nayuta's fart chart. It shows a more hidden side of people's relationships that's usually shied away from or used for a quick laugh and just as quickly forgotten.
one of the best the i liked about chinesaw man is that denji basicly was always nihilistic, all he cared about was pochita his only campanion. but as the story prograss denji realized what life can offer and became much more attached to it (refering to chapter 93). even after literally being broken emotionally and physically by his "savior", he still attached to life.
not really i feel like hes more stunted emotionally thats why he sees the world like a pubescent boy he only started living after makima took him in thats why all his ambitions are perverted and simplistic in a way. only started forming his own personality in the end.
I don't know if I'll ever get chainsaw man out of my head, the intense emotions only really registered with me after i finished reading it and actually let it marinate in my mind. The quiet moments stand out so much more in my mind than the action, which is saying something. Its such a good balance of both and i don't know if ill ever find anything like it again. Truly special
I honestly think the unbelievably of doing the impossible and the stupid love is what most manga authors who survive in the industry have. to deal with overwork, absurd deadlines and crazy amount of pressure you would have to believe in the impossible in order to get into a manga authors dream like shonen jump or make it big else where, but the absolute crazy love for the medium of manga creation and making stories drives them forword
Is it fucked up that I read Chainsaw Man as a comedy at first? Like, I (for some reason) went into this manga feeling like the story was rather light hearted and ridiculous. It wasn't until the second time I read it that I realized how dark and horrifying it is. The main characters drop like flies. Volume after volume, people are either dying, or they quit the force, or they lose a limb. And the story just keeps trotting along. It wasn't until the gun...ya know, the GUN...that I realized "oh shit, I need to take this story seriously." Idk, I think part of it is the black and white of the uncolored manga really obscures a lot if the violence and gore. I also feel like I might have read too quickly at first. I can't wait to see this animated. I can already tell, the tone of this whole story is going to be way different than how it played out in my mind the first time I read it.

The end of Chainsaw Man where Denji finds the solution to just give lots and lots of hugs to the Control Devil. Or the idea of Fire Punch being to actually never give up and get up each time you feel like you are down. I think this is what Fujimoto intended to give to the world. Not necessarily only violent stuff and all of that, since behind all these he gives us all an important lesson to learn from. I say his focus sometimes is to just show us the good parts in a world full of misery. And that is amazing!
for me the strongest aspect of chainsaw man is its depiction of growth. like denji speedrunning adolescence meaning of life and finding happiness till finally coming to terms with your own past and moving forward to the future all in just 90 or so chapters. its a literal rollercoaster of a ride and im all for it.
I always thought that Fire Punch is about choice and identity, because during the whole story Agni wasn't sure who he really was, and Togata used it as her tools. But idea of struggling from depression makes sense too. By the way, amazing work, dude. Sorry for my language

it was so cool reading fujimoto's exploration of gender dysphoria (even if the one shot was a bit ehh at times with it but still very cool) cause it's a concept i never see explored in manga or atleast i haven't come across, and the few other times i have seen it it was really mishandled. props to fujimoto the mad lad

I readed Chainsawman the first time quite quickly but, everytime i return to it, i discover new layers of great character depth and so much meaning, and you really sumarize everything so fine. This video came out one year ago today and coincidentally on my birthday. Now having lived through the last year I can say that this video helped me realize what it was that I loved so much about fujimotos works. This video was here for me through some of my darkest times this last year. Although I know it sounds stupid I consider this video as a birthday gift for me. Now would that be considered selfish? Maybe, but this video has had so much impact on my life this past year and the fact that it came out on my birthday, about one of my favorite authors really stuck with me. Now being 18 I'm really happy I got to live through this last year regardless of how much good and bad things happened. So thank you Kyle Robes this video has done so much more for me than you can imagine
This video just gave me so many "light bulb" moments with the foreshadowing and symbolism that chainsaw man has to offer. I kidd you not, every time I go back to reread the manga or get more analysis on the series theres always more to uncover with csm. This video was a joy to watch and theorize about. I love how csm may seem "shallow" on the surface for some, but really it's an endless pit of so many things to uncover that makes the story even more enjoyable. Honestly we can just talk and analyse Denji endlessly with his emotional state, motives (or sometimes lack of) and overall behaviors throughout the story cuase there's honestly so much to delve into. And the plot alone exemplies a lot about his character and the world even more so as we progress through the story. Makes it even MORE enjoyable knowing that all of this was always planned carefully from the start by Fujimoto.

I’m 90% of the way through reading Chainsaw Man, and I don’t know what you’re referring to when you say “emotional impacts.” Death is never treated as a serious event in CM. Countless civilians die throughout the manga. Fallen devil hunters like Himeno, Aki, and Angel are forgotten about almost instantly. Denji doesn’t react when Power is murdered in front of his eyes. Everyone goes about their normal lives even though thousands of people are murdered by devils every day. I simply can’t find any “emotional impacts.” The story feels like a Fever Dream. I don’t understand why so many people use the word “brilliant” when discussing it.

I love all of Fujimoto's work SO MUCH but I could never express what it was that made it so special as well as you did in this video, I literally spend the last third part of the video crying like a child... I'm almost 30 and discovered Fujimoto around 2 years ago, and he quickly became my favorite mangaka of all time, I really hope mappa can portrait the heart of chainsaw man into their adaptation so more people can discover this incredible author I love so much.

this is a crazy good video- seriously. i just finished chainsaw man yesterday, and it's left me with so many thoughts. the main theme i felt thought csm was how it portrays humanity and what it is to be human... which isnt what you'd expect from a story litteraly about devils and inanimate object. all the characters felt emotions so deeply, therefore making me feel with them. of course everything is subjective, but to me really i felt that denjis motivation was living, opposed to surviving. making connections with people, enjoying the little things and honestly just experiencing what it's like to be a human. trying not to spoil anything- even though he is chainsaw man, he wins in the end through being denji, a human, not a chainsaw. hearing about how all of the authors past works focus on human emotions really makes me feel and comprehend everything so much more.

You did a great job contextualizing the works of Fujimoto and relating them back to the author. I think that these works are beautiful ways of Fujimoto manipulating the world around him, and that violence is used to drive home the theme of absurdity. Absurdity is used by him to convey basic universal understanding in his themes. By this I mean that he uses extremely negative, confusing, positive, and quickly connected emotional impetus to make his readers see something closer to the meat and bones of what he is trying to say in his story. It’s cool because in this way the author is practicing a sort of communication by association, where he doesn’t have to say something specifically to drive a point home. Like how in chainsaw man where there are these absurd moments such as when Denji pulls a flower out of his throat and impresses a girl that make you instantly relate to a feeling of being a teenager in that situation. It’s cool, and maybe I’m reading a bit into it but I like this guy’s work!
I was watching the first ep of CSM when it released and my mother entered the room during Denji tearing up the zombies. The first thing she said was "Ew, why would anyone watch this?" without having seen any of what Denji went through as a person up to that point. It really shows how the violence of CSM isn't the main thing about it, it isn't violent for the sake of violence as Kyle said.

I love how every youtuber who makes a video about fujimoto/csm does the same thing. They analyze every single one of his works and realize that the his stories are all about emotions and life, told in the most absurd ways.
First of, great video and I appreciate the effort you put into this video. Being already familiar with all of Fujis works long before CSM started I already knew what to expect of his storytelling from Chapter 1. I disagree with a few points in this video, but overall it's a good PSA to make people aware that CSM/Fire Punch aren't just hyperviolent, absurd haha funny rides. Here's hoping Part 2 continues to deliver.

Such a thoughtful and well-written analysis on the works of Fujimoto, this video made me tear up a little. I was aware of Chainsaw-man as an absurd over the top action manga, and I read it on a whim. It was absolutely nothing like what I expected, and I got so enthralled and absorbed that I read the whole thing in a single day. It was a rollercoaster and it was amazing, and it left me with a feeling of melancholy that I can't quite put into words. The action was cool, the comedy made me laugh, but it also made me very emotional. I went straight into Fire Punch the next day, and oh boy it left me a mess. It's so good and relatable it hurts. I stumbled upon this video, and I just wanted to thank you for the amazing work you put into this. Fujimoto's work is without a doubt very sincere and intense, and he has become one of my favorite authors very quickly. You earned yourself my sub. Keep it up! :)

To paraphrase one of the main characters' quotes "The moment I truly understand another person is the moment where I begin to love them just as they love themselves." this is one of my favorite analysis videos because it takes the series chainsaw man in a context that couldn’t have been taken by the series alone so it taught me a lot about chainsaw man and storytelling. 10/10 loved it and i hope to see more videos on stuff like this! maybe a haikyu video would be cool there’s so much to go into there even from what everyone has done and i feel you could do it but that’s only if you want. keep it up dude!

The ‘drama behind horror’ is why I love Chainsaw Man, as well as the Thing…both may be violent, but the characters REALLY make it next level.

I love all of Fujimoto's work SO MUCH but I could never express what it was that made it so special as well as you did in this video, I literally spend the last third part of the video crying like a child... I'm almost 30 and discovered Fujimoto around 2 years ago, and he quickly became my favorite mangaka of all time, I really hope mappa can portrait the heart of chainsaw man into their adaptation so more people can discover this incredible author I love so much.
This is such a well made video. I didn't know I could consider an analysis video a work of art. It also made me want to read all of Fujimoto's past works.

this is a crazy good video- seriously. i just finished chainsaw man yesterday, and it's left me with so many thoughts. the main theme i felt thought csm was how it portrays humanity and what it is to be human... which isnt what you'd expect from a story litteraly about devils and inanimate object. all the characters felt emotions so deeply, therefore making me feel with them. of course everything is subjective, but to me really i felt that denjis motivation was living, opposed to surviving. making connections with people, enjoying the little things and honestly just experiencing what it's like to be a human. trying not to spoil anything- even though he is chainsaw man, he wins in the end through being denji, a human, not a chainsaw. hearing about how all of the authors past works focus on human emotions really makes me feel and comprehend everything so much more.
Recently I’ve been watching a lot of video essays and ordering the ones I liked the most in a playlist and I’m proud to report that this one definitely made the list. You did a great job contextualizing the works of Fujimoto and relating them back to the author. I’m shocked this has less than 100k views, your voice and delivery kept me hooked and the half hour length went by unexpectedly quickly, excellent work!

I think that these works are beautiful ways of Fujimoto manipulating the world around him, and that violence is used to drive home the theme of absurdity. Absurdity is used by him to convey basic universal understanding in his themes. By this I mean that he uses extremely negative, confusing, positive, and quickly connected emotional impetus to make his readers see something closer to the meat and bones of what he is trying to say in his story.
It’s cool because in this way the author is practicing a sort of communication by association, where he doesn’t have to say something specifically to drive a point home. Like how in chainsaw man where there are these absurd moments such as when Denji pulls a flower out of his throat and impresses a girl that make you instantly relate to a feeling of being a teenager in that situation.
It’s cool, and maybe I’m reading a bit into it but I like this guy’s work!

I was watching the first ep of CSM when it released and my mother entered the room during Denji tearing up the zombies. The first thing she said was "Ew, why would anyone watch this?" without having seen any of what Denji went through as a person up to that point. It really shows how the violence of CSM isn't the main thing about it, it isn't violent for the sake of violence as Kyle said.
This essay is outstanding among most video essays. Your points are fresh, your take original, your presentation slick... Some of the best I have seen in RUclips in a long time. Great work!
I love how every youtuber who makes a video about fujimoto/csm does the same thing. They analyze every single one of his works and realize that the his stories are all about emotions and life, told in the most absurd ways.
First of, great video and I appreciate the effort you put into this video. Being already familiar with all of Fujis works long before CSM started I already knew what to expect of his storytelling from Chapter 1.
I disagree with a few points in this video, but overall it's a good PSA to make people aware that CSM/Fire Punch aren't just hyperviolent, absurd haha funny rides. Here's hoping Part 2 continues to deliver.

Genji is a type 9 and it's very difficult to write a good story with your protagonist being a peacemaker but he nails it perfectly.

Such a thoughtful and well-written analysis on the works of Fujimoto, this video made me tear up a little. I was aware of Chainsaw-man as an absurd over the top action manga, and I read it on a whim. It was absolutely nothing like what I expected, and I got so enthralled and absorbed that I read the whole thing in a single day. It was a rollercoaster and it was amazing, and it left me with a feeling of melancholy that I can't quite put into words. The action was cool, the comedy made me laugh, but it also made me very emotional. I went straight into Fire Punch the next day, and oh boy it left me a mess. It's so good and relatable it hurts. I stumbled upon this video, and I just wanted to thank you for the amazing work you put into this. Fujimoto's work is without a doubt very sincere and intense, and he has become one of my favorite authors very quickly. You earned yourself my sub. Keep it up! :)

This Video about understanding the author reminds me of why I like the books Ender's game and Speaker of the Dead. To paraphrase one of the main characters' quotes "The moment I truly understand another person is the moment where I begin to love them just as they love themselves." I really love your work in sharing the message Tatsuki Fujimoto is trying to convey and I hope to see more in-depth videos like this soon.

this is one of my favorite analysis videos because it takes the series chainsaw man in a context that couldn’t have been taken by the series alone so it taught me a lot about chainsaw man and storytelling. 10/10 loved it and i hope to see more videos on stuff like this! maybe a haikyu video would be cool there’s so much to go into there even from what everyone has done and i feel you could do it but that’s only if you want. keep it up dude!
One thing that's driving me nuts and that absolutely no one is talking about is the fact that Nayuta from Yogen no Nayuta, is exactly that same "Nayuta" from chainsaw man, I mean even their appearance is the same (even the eyes for fuks sake ), why the hell is no one talking about this? Is it just some coincidence? or is it that they are related somehow?
