Try LG V series phones, better DACs then even equivalent priced dedicated players in some cases. You can get one 2 gens behind that still get software updates and have 32 Bit 384kHz Quad DACs
@@ksaspectre As an owner of an LG phone, and an Onkyo DAP, I disagree entirely. Even a Shanling M0 (Uses the same DAC as the V30+ and V40, etc), has cleaner decoding than whatever the shit LG uses.
@@ksaspectre I'm sorry, but getting an LG phone as a DAP makes no sense. It won't sound better than a smaller and more compact Sony DAP, whilst costing more. Yeah my thoughts are if you're going to buy a separate mp3 player nowadays you're either doing something unique like swimming with it, or you're springing for an audiophile model like the venerable Sony nw-zx300 which is my daily driver. It's chonky but I carry it with a portable tube amp (Oriolus BA300s) and it's amazing for commuting by train.
@@renzenryuken5542 I'm basically saying that if Linus had zoomed out just a bit more, 400 bux is still chump change in the audiophile verse. The purpose is to have a device that plays music better than phones. A lot of us also love tactile controls, and realize that when using a phone we make a lot of compromises with the user interface, and various features that provide convenience. For me? Just avoid doing anything sensitive with it since Android 7 is old enough now that it's not exactly getting the latest security updates (granted many Android phones have that problem since Phone Service Providers tend to only update the newest devices and are often a month or 2 behind. Yep. Would like to try one of those DAPs. So far the best sounding mp3 player for me was and is still the samsung yp-r0 series. Modded iPod Classics (or the iPod Mini) with upgraded storage is still a great option for playing MP3s. Especially with people putting Bluetooth into the Classics and the custom shells available, it is a great time to be in that community.
That Sony Walkman thing is pretty good when you go for swimming / sports. That FiiO M11 is for those who already own audiophile headphones that are bit harder to drive by cheaper mp3 player, so it's a portable headphone DAC/AMP that's capable of playing hi-res format (DSD, Flac, etc)

Then you use it underwater
Try LG V series phones, better DACs then even equivalent priced dedicated players in some cases. You can get one 2 gens behind that still get software updates and have 32 Bit 384kHz Quad DACs
@@ksaspectre As an owner of an LG phone, and an Onkyo DAP, I disagree entirely. Even a Shanling M0 (Uses the same DAC as the V30+ and V40, etc), has cleaner decoding than whatever the shit LG uses.
Actually lg quad dac seems so overhyped devices. Even fiio x3ii toppled thus lg shits
@@ksaspectre I'm sorry, but getting an LG phone as a DAP makes no sense. It won't sound better than a smaller and more compact Sony DAP, whilst costing more. omg thats what im saying lol. They couldnt get an acutal pair of high fi headphones? Sennheiser, Audeze, Sony, anything..
@@yusuf8938 But he's using Sennheiser IE80S for all of the players though? He switches to them at 4:25
@@yusuf8938 Not trying to spoil anything, but from an earlier video they made, I know for a fact they have an LCD-2C's well as some HE-4XX's lying around somewhere as well
Yeah what the heck I thought they'd actually tell me if the sound is really better on them. What do these sound like vs. my phone or an old mp3 player or something else?
@@SuperMrgentleman The video itself is misleading. You don't buy an M11 to play MP3s. The idea is to play lossless audio at CD quality and above. One way to do this is to play ALAC or FLAC files. But you also need a good pair of high-end headphones to hear the difference. You might also be able to stream Tidal on the M11. Not sure. I don't have one. I have the old $100 Fii0 X1 with a pair of the original Philips Fidelio L2 headphones. This is a budget setup, but since the X1 has a really nice Digital to Audio Converter (DAC) and a great headphone jack (another link in the chain that's very important), they sound great at CD quality and above. Hope that helps!
Riley: balanced 4.5 mm port
Me (Audiophile): laughs as it is actually a 4.4mm port, 4.5 doesn't exist.
Also Riley: it runs Android 7
Me: Shit they about to steal my Tidal account.
Same thought. Laughs while using NDH20 and owing L3 with 4.4mm cable xD

The iPod touch isn't a true iPod... We talking about dedicated music players here
That $400 unit totally beats the whole "what if you wanted to go on a run and do not want an entire phablet on your arms?" 😆
3:13 and that's when I remembered linus was married with three children
They're called DAPs now. And there are high demands for them out there
what does that stand for? digital audio processor?
@@johnuferbach9166 i think it'd have to be dedicated audio player
@@PeterDanielBerg apparently it means
digital audio player ... basicly the same as mp3 player, but also for other file formats
@@johnuferbach9166 huh okay color me surprised
