MMEB: a band whose versions magnified the originals... and became more popular than them. Since their 1972 self-titled album, I have remained an avid follower of this band's output. What musicians! Manfred Man-Mick Rogers, a genius duo! Thanks.

Yes, talk about expanding and improving on the original. Ok I should probably hear Dylan's version before I say that, but it's so short, so I'm sure I'd prefer Manfred's version. I think Manfred is the musical idol I never knew I needed haha! Have a great Sunday!!

One of favorite MM songs from 73 "Solar Fire" album but my favorite album was "The Good Earth" 74. This wonderful Progish phase of MM saw them focused on Cosmic & Nature themes

Thanks for Father of Day, Father of Night! One of the songs that helped me through a very difficult childhood & youth. I grew up in a very destructive religious cult and bands as Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and - of course - MM's Earth Band (they were all forbidden to listen to by the cult btw) saved my soul.

Father Of Day--a Bob Dylan song being infused with a near Pink Floyd feel(and a whiff of Yes)?! The MM Band, of course. As our host notes, that didn't feel like a ten minute song, it flew by, and I wanted more. Cool
Angels--sounds like 80s synths with 70s guitars--almost Joe Walsh-style guitar. Yes, that is tasty.

Not sure where you are, but thanks for the late night/early morning watch! YES, the more I listen to Father, the more Floyd I heard, good call... Can I just react to their entire discography already?! Tasty band, can't wait till their turn comes again....😌

The whole "Angel Station" album is great and maybe my favorite from MMEB. By the way, Chris Thompson is one of my favorite rock singers, too.

Both were a first listen for me. I enjoyed them both, but I think I’m leaning towards “Angel…” a bit more. After “Father…” you mentioned being reminded of a song. It’s the Beatles song “With A Little Help From My Friends” from the Sgt. Pepper album. You must give a listen to Joe Cocker’s live version of it from Woodstock!! It’s really epic!!

Nice. Yes, both great but Angel wins!! One of the coolest songs I've ever heard. I think I've heard the Cocker version only, definitely never the Beatles version. And I think I mentioned that song once before in another reaction haha...better get some sleep so I can get to the CAS finale in the morning!

"Solar Fire"...For me and every prog fan clear in the "must hear" category. Mann also has the same first name as me. So, no surprise , that I like this guy
After the early days of (pretty good) chart hits in the 60`s and failed jazz rock albums, Mann tried prog rock with jazz influences with the Earth Band. The first attempts were still indifferent. “Solar Fire” was an all-round fantastic album. Mann on the keyboards and Rogers guitar are supreme. After that, from LP to LP, they went more and more into commerciality and the mainstream. Especially after Mick Rogers left the band. But you chose “Angels At My Gate” of all songs. Splendid! Despite everything, one of a few of my favorites from this phase. More "Solar Fire" please. "Saturn, Lord Of the Ring/Mercury, The Winged Messenger" is also a masterpiece.

Hello Brandon. I must admit I gave favorites always to the second area from Manfred Mann . "Angels at my gate" were a very nice release from 1979 with many keyboards together, a soft processed rythmic line with phaser effects, also the Talk Box solo were a great idea, a lot of MiniMoog tones in the slow bass drones, big call under the chorus "fifty eight.." a resonant analog goodness, and finally that floating solo like a cosmic violin, also Synth duo under the soaring electric guitar solo. Very heavy on string machine also by the way. On the voice Steve Waller but probably also Christopher Thompson on the chorus, but you'll got more of his excellent voice on many songs of this area (particularly on the albums "Angel Station" and "Watch") I believe he were one of the best choice for the band ever before Noël Mc Calla later in the 90's. Space and cosmic vibes they produced that year, in a very tasty manner. G
"Father of day" was a bit slow motion for me if I remember, like some Pink Floyd variations, of course with a grandiose treatment, chorus voices but also strange Mellotron tones, but more Hammond organ that were so popular in early seventies. Also some backwards tapes in the solo, I believe it must have been piano. And finally his beloved MiniMoog metamorphic melody at the end. But I remember some more interesting parts on the rest of "Solar fire" that you must listen to, try "mercury, the winged messenger" or "Pluto the Dog" 😅

@@retroreactions.... Thanks Brandon. Anyway, I'm a MMEB fan, so.
For Angel Station I would try next "Don't kill it carol" "Belle of the Earth" and also "You angel you", several Sings have funnily have style and sound similarities with "Angels at my gate", this album sounds very conceptual, also "Hollywood town" and "You are, I am" are like variations of the same structure, but everywere you will hear gorgeous MiniMoog solos, probably his best of all time. It's really a worthy great album, among others. Warmly recommended 😎🎶

Solar Fire is a really great album to listen to completely. It was somehow based on Holst' s The Planet which Mann wanted to adapt but then went a slightly different way. I still think it's their best album. As some writers before I also recommend to dive a bit deeper into MMEB and Uriah Heep (his keyboard work on one of the greatest rock/metal songs ever made "July Morning" was fantastic).

I know I mentioned this one in the past, but again since you really commented heavily about the keys so I suggest to you The Two Sides of Tony McPhee The Hunt 1973. is a single psychedelic art rock electronic composition in four movements, featuring Arp 2600 synthesizers, electric piano, and The Rhythm Ace drum synthesizer it explores McPhee's strong stance against fox and stag hunting ruclips.net/video/BRIUUBlFVZ8/видео.html as you can see no mention of guitars, bass, or even a real drum kit all keys and synthesizer how can you pass this one up I am 95% sure you never heard anything like it digital LSD if you will , you will trip on this one
