    Oh wow, that totally IS the drum beat from 'When The Levee Breaks'! Just sped up a bit and thus also slightly higher-pitched! 😀
    And on top of that, the drum computer track in the transition into the next song was borrowed from the intro of 'Fading Lights' by Genesis!

    Always good to hear some Enigma! 💖👍 I noticed in the second song that there appears to be a sample (around 10:00 in this video) of Robert Plant singing "Bring it back" a few times, which is from Led Zeppelin's song "The Battle of Evermore" (starting around the 4:30 mark in that song). 🤓

    The Powerful and Mysthical Chant was Created and originally sung by Duana's Couple,Difang and Igay Duana for their song "Elders Drinking".Plagiarized by French Govt. and Used by Enigma for their "Return to innocence".
    Difang Duana (March 20, 1921 - March 29, 2002) and Igay Duana (August 9, 1922 - May 16, 2002), Chinese names Kuo Ying-nan (郭英男) and Kuo Hsiu-chu (郭秀珠), were Amis husband and wife farmers from Taiwan who became known as a folk music duo who specialized in traditional Amis chants. Their most recognized work is a performance of a traditional Amis Palang song, alternately called "Weeding and Paddyfield Song No. 1", "Elders' Drinking Song", and "Jubilant Drinking Song", or Sapiliepah a Radiw in the Amis language. The song was recorded by a French government project and EMI, and was subsequently sampled by the musical project Enigma for their international hit single "Return to Innocence". Accusations of unintentional usage without permission were settled out of court.

    What chants are those? Are they Samish? When you go
    Back far enough, it seems humans expressed themselves in a very similar manner, whether in North America, or Northern Scandinavia or Faroe Islands or Mongolia. It resonates with some pretty deep DNA…at least in me

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  3 месяца назад

      The chants used here were originally performed by a duo who were part of the Amis ethnic group from Taiwan. Here's a bit more info:
      An Amis chant ("Weeding and Paddyfield Song No. 1") is repeated, which opens the song. Difang and Igay Duana, from the Amis, were in a cultural exchange program in Paris in 1988 when their performance of the song was recorded by the Maison des Cultures du Monde and later distributed on CD. The producer of Enigma, Michael Cretu, later obtained the CD and proceeded to sample it. In addition, the drum beat of the song was sampled from the Led Zeppelin song "When the Levee Breaks", played by John Bonham.

      @@retroreactions.... yeah, I heard you say that about the drums, and I can hear it. But man, it is amazing to me how that famous drum sequence, so famous for its power, becomes just a.background rhythm for this song. I’m not so much offended that they sampled it, just wondering why bother, if you’re just going to eviscerate it. Just use a drum machine. I actually liked the song but was totally perplexed as to why they would sample such a famous drum riff only to put it so far back in the mix that it seems almost sn afterthought.
      Your thoughts?

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  3 месяца назад +1

      Not being a drum guy at all, I wouldn't think of that off hand. But after hearing your thoughts, I can see it. I get that this band is full of layers and textures, but like you said, for something so iconic, most artists put the spotlight on whatever they are sampling. Not sure if it was done this way intentionally (a quiet nod or subtle easter egg) or it's just how they always work. Now if it was a famous keyboard riff and was way in the back of the mix, I'd probably have more to say! 😊

    OTT production, so much money so little innovation 😂
    Claudia Brucken was infinitely more interesting, not even thinking of Propaganda (of which this a rip off) or The Act.
    Try Kiss Like Ether instead!
    Of course I enjoy it because this is my kind of sound, but this has origins in many things done before.
    Sorry Brandon, I'm a hard man to please, being pretty well verse regarding the 80s 😂
    But thanks you for this but could you juste review songs under the 5' mark?

      Well, we like what we like 🙂 I think there are too many amazing songs over 5 minutes to just ignore them. Plus when I do short songs, RUclips algorithm thinks people are watching my videos for less time and looks at it negatively.
