At the time Sandy sang on this Led Zeppelin track, she was one of the leading female folk-rock singers in England. She had incredible control over how she expressed her voice. Her work with Fairport Convention was some of her best. "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" is one of her best known, but some of my favorites include "Autopsy", "Genesis Hall", "Fotheringay (the song of this name), and "She Moves Through The Fair". All of these also feature the excellent guitar work of Richard Thompson.

I love watching you two reacting to these songs. The way Nick’s face scrunches up when a particular section of a tune really hits him. That’s real music appreciation. And the way he can play “air anything” ( guitar, drums… even mandolin). Thanks for doing what you do. 11:11 forever!

Sandy is probably my favourite lady singer of all time. You must visit some of her songs from her days in Fairport Convention and Fotheringay, and of course her solo work too. Please can I suggest 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes', which I believe Sandy wrote when she was still in her teens, and 'A Sailor's Life', a fine example of what became known as Folk Rock.

Everybody remembers Stairway to Heavan from the album, but this is the one that sneaks up on you and you never forget it and it gets better and better with age. PS: Sandy Denny from the group Fairport Convention. Might want to check them out. Song: Who Knows Where the Time Goes.

You really should listen to Sandy with Fairport Convention. Her final record with Fairport, “Liege and Lief,” is widely regarded as a classic folk rock album, and all of the FP albums with her are worth a listen. She also has several fine solo albums.

ONE of THE MOST TRIPPY HIPPIE BEAUTIFUL AMAZING acoustic SONGS EVER by LZ which was so powerful during the era! And yes our minds were blissfully BLOWN & bombarded with all this NEW IMAGINATIVE music coming from all directions and genres with diverse influences, But WE did know how great all of them were, but I think we got spoiled and took it for granted (like we often do in every moment) ALSO the concerts from 71-74 were like only $5-15! LOL!!!!! We were only 17 and saw LZ at MSG at the last minute during a random visit to NY in 1973 for $10 each

This one and Ramble On are two of my faves. The Levy is there with them. Loved your review and reaction. It is a beautiful song, & Robert & Sandy sound amazing together. She was the only person outside the band, to preform vocals on any song with Led Zeppelin. Lex needs to delve deep into their other albums, she’s missing other great songs, there’s very few that aren’t great. I only have two that aren’t my favorites, many lives are even better then the albums. Two of my favorite lives are, Madison Square Gardens (1973) Since I’ve Been Loving You, is better then the studio. Earls Court the May 25,1975 version, of In My Time Of Dying, mind blowing performance. Out of the performances there, this date is the best.

Sandy Denny was just Ethereal on this song. I know from the first day I heard this song that it was a woman singing with Robert. I was about 11 or 12 when I first heard it. It's always been a special Zeppelin song to me. Otherworldly. Also it was Jimmy Page playing the Mandolin. Not John Paul Jones. Jimmy just picked it up one day & playing with it came up with the riff for this song. Also probably one of the hardest hitting Mandolin riffs ever.

Do you realize they stopped because the greatest drummer, & their friend John Bonham passed away. They knew they couldn’t replace him, that was their plan if any of them quit or passed away. They were like different parts of the same musician, they melded so perfect together. Yes other band replace band mates, but Led Zeppelin’s magic surpassed other bands. I think both of you need to checkout more of their story, that’s part of being a fan. Like what was going on during the Presence album, & why there was also 2 years of not playing, before In Through The Out Door. They put out great albums in a short time, where every song is great, well the majority is. They also toured like crazy, doing 3 to 4 hour concerts almost nightly.

I learned a lot about old English folk tales in songs through Sandy Denny's work with Fairport Convention and her solo recordings. The same year as this Zeppelin album, 1971, Sandy recorded an old English folk song called "Blackwaterside" on her North Star Grassman & The Ravens album. Interestingly, Led Zeppelin recorded an instrumental version of this same song in 1969, and they called it "Black Mountain Slide" . But I always liked Sandy's vocal version better. ruclips.net/video/zAXFQWbZMaE/видео.html
