Love Squeeze ! .. This one definitely has a melancholy, almost haunting feel during the verses, and as you say, it then switches up to a much more positive sounding chorus .. But that's what I really enjoy about this wonderful band .. They always had great melody, and importantly they weren't afraid to be a bit different with their songs .. That's why their music will stay timeless.
Thanks for showing me a new fun Squeeze song. And for sharing the Summer vibe on this cold winters Australian day.

Squeeze us and please us with one of my favourite songs that really reminds me of all the best summers and that slightly sad feeling that comes over you when you realise summer is over.

In the lyrics "this summer" is always in the future tense. Hence the melancholy.

Try Love's Crashing Waves by Difford and Tilbrook (when they went solo)
That's how a guitar solo should be played - melodic snf fits the song to perfection. There is a time for fast solos but only occasionally- shredders take note! Yes, the Tele is a gigging guitar built to withstands bashes. And if ot gets battered, it looks better - unlike PRS's etc.
No, it's not summer in the U.K. it's been raining most of today, I've even had to put the heating on for a few hours in the past day or two. Great song from this great band.
