- The Last of Us S1E6 "Kin" First Time Watching Reaction, Review, and Commentary for JL. Many momentary moments of anger at Joel actually thinking about leaving and MANY STFUs regarding that cliffhanger (HBO better not) were had.

He's not sick, he's having anxiety and panic attacks.
was gonna say the same thing
PTSD
I absolutely adore the old couple at the start.
Yeah, the Man looks pretty good for a guy who got the Electric Chair in the 1930s.
Yeah. Grandma is definitely being well fed.
You can't kill people like that.. too adorbs. 😅
Me too!
@@thrummer1953 That’s who that is!!!!! I knew I recognized him but I just couldn’t place it.😂😂 Thanks for that clue!
he's so fearful of losing another child he's having panic attacks. he's trying to get away because he doesn't want history to repeat itself.
14:15, they are watching The Goodbye Girl starring Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason. A single actor moves in as a subrentor with a single mom and her daughter. Over time they become a couple despite their quirks.
However, this love story has a twist. The female lead’s young daughter looks at the boyfriend as a father figure. So when he has to say goodbye for a time, both the mom and daughter are heartbroken. Their quasi father daughter relationship is shown to be just as important as the relationship between the leads.
Sort of like the relationship between Ellie and Joel.
Only movie that dreyfuss won an Oscar for
are you decent?
I am naked. I am also decent. Great line delivery
Love that movie
I love the representation of native humor this is how we exactly are
“He didn’t hurt me”
“Yeah I got eyes”
They must be protected 😂
100% I'd wanna have neighbors like them in an apocalypse. Can't take yourself too seriously in a time like that.
As a non indigenous person who lives in Canadian prairies I can confirm. The humour of indigenous people is a thing of its own and is very infectious
The relationship between Ellie and Joel gets better with each episode. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are absolutely killing it!! Always looking forward to your reactions JL and Blanks master editing! Nothing but respect and love.
one small, almost unnoticeable, detail from this episode that i really appreciated, was that they had a kid with what appeared to be down syndrome with the community watching the movie. having them just, a part of the community... was really wonderful. i have a sister with a syndrome similar to downs, just more rare. this sort of dystopian future scares me, in terms of my sister's survival. and it was just lovely to see someone alive, with a syndrome such as downs, with the others alive, in this fictitious world.
Yeah like imagine that kid in a town like Kansas city ppl would not treat that kid the same
@@tf6026 ive seen kids with down syndrome in major cities getting treated horribly... so doesnt take a huge stretch to imagine how KC folks may behave.
That wasn’t even close to unnoticeable honestly. Likely born after the outbreak and after establishing the outpost. It is a nice detail though. It shows the humanity of this group
The scene in the bedroom is my second favorite scene of the games. Ashley Johnson killed it in the original. And Bella Ramsey lived up to it. She looks scared and just... broken. Another person she got attached to was leaving her, and you could hear it in her voice. Pedro killed it in the scene with the boots. This is quickly becoming my favorite series of all time. And when he is showing her how to shoot, there is a change in him. He has accepted that he is hers and she is his. He has accepted that he can't let her go, can't let her down. You can see the old Joel hiding in there.
And by the way, you still make me laugh when you say "shut up" after you get scared lol
Graham Greene (Marlon, the old fella at the beginning) is a Canadian institution! You’ve also seen him on this channel in The Green Mile 🇨🇦
Joel was having the Tony Soprano attacks
Glad you noticed the same song at the end, I was like why do I know it but they talked about it on the podcast. Craig's (one of the two main people behind this) daughter sang it.
I LOVE your doggos face when you said let's go, just confusion all over his face hahaha
(Sorry, I don't know their names)
Everything is shot in Alberta. The opening scenes are areas in and around Canmore. Jackson is downtown Canmore. The university is SAIT in Calgary.
It took me forever to finally realize that the woman playing Maria was Tara on True Blood (not sure if you've seen that series). This is a hard episode for Joel because he finds his brother who also reminds him of his daughter Sarah especially when Tommy says Maria was pregnant. Now, in the game Maria wasn't pregnant and the old couple in the beginning never existed but I'm glad they added them because I love them. The emotional part with Joel and Ellie about her not being his daughter was always tough to play in the game and these actors did a fantastic job in this scene.
This show uses a lot of subtle sound cues from the game; like the low windy sound whenever they're sneaking about to be noticed is the same sound in the game that tells you if you're being looked for. And here when the horses pop up there's a chime sound that's the same sound in the game for "there's something important you should be looking at"
So the Lab scene played out quite differently, and IMO better in the game, In the game most things are the same, it deviates when Joel and Ellie hear the Raiders, by the time they hear them, they've already swarmed the entire building and know Joel and Ellie are in the building, Que a gun fight as you race to the exit, however halfway through, a Raider surprises Joel, and they go tumbling off the side of the building where the Raider died, and Joel landed on a Metal bar, with it skewing through his side. Ellie then helps Joel off the Bar, they get on the horse and leaves, the scene then plays out basically the same. RIP Joel.
I agree there could've been more of a fight. What this show needed was a good oner long-shot of Joel in a room of guys without cutting away.
i'd watch an entire episode with just the couple from the beginning. They were hilarious.
Love the reactions as always guys. Just commenting for the algorithm. Keep up the great work! Almost to 30K!
This episode man. Acting was just amazing, everyone killed it.
Also you questioning where extra horses came from, same hahaha
It's Wyoming. Lotta horse ranches up there. They would've had plenty of horses to start and then keep breeding over the last 20 years.
when i tell you i BAWLED my eyes out watching it. pedro pascal is such an amazing actor, i get amazed every time
You caught the bad new song from episode one. I was the only person in our viewing party who caught that.
To me, the best writing has no waste. Every line of dialogue or thing that happens is either a setup or a payoff. The writing in this show is super tight.
Do you remember Ellie telling Sam the only thing she is afraid of in the last episode? Ending up alone. Joel dumping her was the thing she feared the most.
Damn! Great writing.
I absolutely love how pissed off you are at the ending, I can't stop laughing!! 😂😂😂
Also, I need your shirt!!! I immediately knew the reference and I fucking love it!
I love it when you jump. You look dead at the camera and tell us to shut up 🤣🤣🤣.
You gotta make a shirt that says shut up or shut the fuck up 😂😂
There’s a SHUDDUP shirt already in our store. Not surprisingly, it’s our best seller. LoL
Some spoiler free Series v game comparisions. Joel having anxiety attacks is not in the game but it is a deep cut for the game as in the opening scene of the game playing as Sarah you can look in the upstairs bathroom Joel has some anti-anxiety meds in there, so the character has a history of anxiety problems before the outbreak they just didn't explore it in the game. Other than that this is a beat for beat match of the games overall plot and story, not shot for shot but some scenes are shot for shot.
Some settings are changed most of this part of the game takes place at the Dam that they see in the show. They never really get to Jackson in the game they see it but never go there, and in the game Ellie has a running away incident that leads to the "you ain't my Daugher" scene. (I think they did this scene very well but I do think it's better in the game, maybe because it was the first place I saw it, I'm not sure)
The young girl watching them eat may be a cameo of a character that appears in the last of us part 2 called Dina.
Oh one last thing, the scene with Joel teaching Ellie to shoot a rifle is not from the game (although he does give her some pointers on it in Pittborugh) it actually from the concept art for the game, you can find it by searching Joel and Ellie concept art.
This was a great and extremely emotional episode. I have absolutely loved each episode, but now we need the horror and zombies to come and scare us a bit.
I said the exact same thing when they played that song at the end of the episode. Lmao!
These are great, thank you!
I was terrified that the dog would alert on Ellie. She isn't affected, but she has the scar from being attacked
She _does_ have the fungus in her arm, it just never made it further into her body. I suspect the dog smelled _something_ in her but the other things that go wonky in the body weren't present so the dog wasn't sure
"The Last of Us" is one of the only games that I played just waiting for the next cut scene. They are all so well done and acted. They pull them off really great in this show, but also pare them down a bit. That scene where Ellie confronts Joel about leaving her is so well done in the game it has no right to be in "just" a video game.
'Why won't he tell his brother the truth?'
Wait. :)
Loved the cpl in beginning lol perfect roles, Ellie talks too much doesn't know when to stfu and never listens reasons y a few are dead alrdy ;)
In other words Ellie is a typical child
I don't think Ellie looks at Joel as a father but more like an older friend she can learn from and look up to.
Awesome reaction👍. Prayers for Joel🙏.
Keep em coming!!!!!!💪💪💪💪
I had the same expletive laden reaction as you at where this cliffhanger left off! ARRGH!
And now the wait begins. Sigh.
Gonna be a long week. LoL
Wait a second. The Murder Whistle can’t whistle?
…you must have missed the American History X reaction. Highly recommended and you will learn about the Murder Whistle ;)
@@MrJoeym78 yeah I’ve seen it. He said in his reaction to this episode that he can’t whistle.
And sidenote...super stoked you're reacting to Reign of Fire. One of my alltime fave movies that gets overlooked often! Super excited for that video!👏☺😃 I mean Mathew McConaughey's physique simply put is impressive!!!!
The woman in the cabin use to play in the series northern exposure it was a good show nice reaction to all of the episodes so far still watching all your reactions for this series but you always give great reactions and yes the guy in the cabin played in twilight you was definitely right about that one lol😂❤
LETS GOOOO
god damn I wish we could've got a Game of Thrones first reaction from you.
You and me both. LoL
I haven't played the game either so I hope no one spoils it for us folk that truly are newbs to the storyline....but Joel better not die!
I mean it's HBO so I won't be surprised..I mean I'd be surprised but....episode nines tend to be deadly in other HBO programs😉So time will tell I guess. As always thanks J, Blank and the copilots!☺💚
First time watching the channel. Before even watching the video, I wanna say... Excellent beard 😤
I love m'bacu or how ever you spell his name intro voice from black panther so never get rid of it
22:56 Detroit joins the server
lol. ,,Bum-raider-#1''
I know how to whistle but I don’t know how to do that loud finger whistle haha.
You mentioned that in episode 1 or 2 they said there was no cure or vaccine. That was 20 years in the past to current time in the current episode. Ellie is special because she gets bitten and doesn't get sick so they can use her blood to create a cure/vaccine
I knew you were gonna ask about that movie they were watching. It's THE GOODBYE GIRL. It's a story about a single mom who meets this dude and become reluctant roommates and soon becomes best friends with the daughter. Kind of apt.
This lady is Elaine Miles, my best bros Aunt. She is hilarious. One day her bro was talking smack and she grabbed his braids and was yanking his hair up and down, saying to him. You atoll think youre funny. He is a tribal spiritual leader and that doesn't matter to your family.
caught the snake, sending it forward~~
I love how Maria said, "Tommy was following Joel," in reference to killing people. Like Tommy isn't a full grown man? An ex-soldier from Desert Storm nonetheless so he's had prior experience with killing people before Joel EVER did. Ironic, huh? Yet JOEL is the bad influence when THEY were going to kill Ellie & Joel when they werent being a threat?
2:10 - 2:16
I don't know if you referencing Die Hard with a Vengeance with that dude that return to his home or you talk about Joel.
If Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey don't get all the awards for this show, there is no justice.
Duck tape and zip ties fix every thing
good!
12:36 😂😂😂😂
Just watched this ep 2 hrs b4 u posted lol good episode but didn't like the ending but not gna spoil anything
4:28 Heyy he’s not old. He’s 48 don’t be making me feel like a grandma at 42. Lol. Hell I am old. Oh well 😅
Dude they can't kill him off! 😔

25:30 Who is: "Bum Raider" One!!!... For $100 Alex 😂😂😭😭 (Jeopardy question)
♥️♥️
What was up with his brother's wife snipping pieces of the girls hair?
That town is literally Animal Farm. I’m not a fan of it long-term.
But in a world that is daily in a state of emergency, it's necessary
@@excelsior8682 that’s why I said long-term. For now, yes it will work, but sooner than later…..
It's something that needs a good culture behind it. That town is basically what I'd _want_ to gun for, and I'm saying this as someone who grew up in China and thinks soviet-communism is a pyramid scheme. But it's something you need to scale up _very slowly,_ if at all. In the small scale this makes sense, basically a village mindset. But you can't apply it to a metropolis of people who don't know each other following rules set by people who don't live there.
A mom-and-pop shop and a mega-corporation don't work on the same rules.
@@samwallaceart288 I don’t really disagree. As that town grows, it’s gonna be a problem. Communism runs contradictory to human nature.
@@giodagrate5369 I feel like anything large-scale is a challenge. One thing that makes capitalism more scalable is it can be parceled down to individual buyers and sellers and the concept of personal property makes mass cities full of strangers more tenable. But even then there's caveats and requirements.
Communism is unrealistic collectivism that needs a central myth and opinion-policing to keep it unified. Basically an atheist version Catholic feudalism. _Which did work_ to a certain extent, but also required inquisition and "critique of the Pope" being a capital offense.
The idea of people having a happy village together was never the problem, the problem is how to realistically apply that village-talk policing beyond any individual's social circle. 40 acquaintances, humans can deal with. 1,000,000, you start needing a cult mentality to hold it together.
_That's_ the problem. Not the concept of "sharing".
10:50 "We're Communists."
Communists with a democratically elected council and barter for trade. Yeah, totally communist.
A communist economy and a democratic government.
They're what communists _should_ be; an actual commune of people who give a shit about each other.
Communes are notoriously difficult to maintain long-term though; people bicker and sabotage each other like crazy. But if you do like Jackson here; start small, give people room to mind their own business, make sure supplies are in good order before expanding, it _can_ work.
But more realistically, though, the vast majority of communist systems end up like Killa City.
Really liked this Episode. 2 more episodes left in The Main Plot. Next one is the Filler.. the only part of the franchise I didn't finish. I'll be looking forward to it.
I hope after the finale, you'll agree with those of us who say #JoelDidNOTHINGWrong. 😅
These episodes have been following the game perfectly, I really hope they don't do that for season 2. The last of us 2 is dogshit.
Cant stand the Hollywood commie silliness - best part of the episode was the old folks at the beginning, as well as Joel and Ellie's interactions.
Don’t forget to call it “woke”, too.
@@EOMReacts at least they pulled back from the infecting the main characters plot - the worst part of the show are all the woke changes made to subplots and secondary characters in order to appease an audience that doesn't really exist outside of the cesspool that is Hollywood. Everything from his brother (who is now a pussy), to his brothers wife (who is a commie that hates Joel), to Sam (he wasnt deaf), to frank (who hated Bill and died trying to escape him by attempting to steal his truck - Bill was to protective and paranoid for him), to the chubby rebel leader (chief of the Karen's) - none of that is in the source material. And ironically - what works the best is from the source material (Joel and Ellie interactions).
Every show these days thinks they have to incorporate a queer scene in it, just like this one did during the 3rd episode. That's when I stopped watching. It had nothing to do with the plot of the show except to make sure once again another movie was politically correct.
So if you stopped watching it at episode 3 why are you hear discussing it on episode 6 about how you mad about a showing having representation of different type of characters
Somebody missed the point completely.
The Bill and Frank story is a direct parallel to Joel and Ellie. Sure the flashback was pretty long but the letter to Joel mentioning Tess is what pushes him into doing the journey for real, and the letter needed that context. If it was a straight couple that whole interlude would be hailed as poignant foreshadowing.
@@samwallaceart288 Okay, so you're gay.
@@mavjagmaverick1527 Then being gay doesn't affect the point the show's making. To an SJW them being gay is a bonus, sure, but there's a lot more going on in the story than _just that._ If it was a straight couple, people would call it a tangent but be pretty cool with it and appreciate how it adds to the story, rather than just focusing on which gender is involved.
Sure I'm gay. Gay for having a well-told story that can have #diverse characters _without lecturing me_ about how diverse they are and how I should feel sorry for them.
These gays _actually have a life_ and have character and don't need to stop what they're doing every 5 minutes to talk about how much they hate straight people. They're just people being people in a world, and I'm gonna acknowledge that and reward the show for not being preachy about it.
