My tip for making stainless steel appliances look nice is a little orange glo on a dry cloth. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it works! Even a different oil such as coconut would probably work just as well. Thank you for sharing your awesome personality with us!
Using vegetable oil on the stainless steel appliances works well for me. Just apply it on a paper towel, rub it on the appliance, then buff it out a little with a fresh paper towel.
LOVE that you talked about having a black thumb and not liking plants with a healthy plant right behind you 😂😂😂😂 also i wash my sheets every two weeks too. It's just more practical. The peace it brings our lives is worth the dust mites 😂😂😂
That was extremely disrespectful! I can’t believe 30+ women liked this behavior! Your husband is supposed to be your life partner and friend. I don’t even do this to my children let alone an adult! Treat people with respect even if it’s supposed to be for a video!
@Gen1-Rev22 it's being silly and he knows that, she didn't just throw it at him, they set up that scene for the video. Are you never silly with your husband or kids? Get off your high horse and learn to tell the difference between actual disrespect and someone being silly, before your kids grow up to be anxiety ridden stess machines because mom couldn't tell the difference between playing around and actual disrespect so they never learned it either.
@@Gen1-Rev22 Wow! Have you got a husband? I ask because you have NO sense of humour. Ariel's husband takes part in the fun. Stop looking down on people, you are just being sanctimonious and judgemental.
@@Gen1-Rev22if it wasn’t staged for the video I would agree. But they work together in these videos and so I’m not worried. It was funny because nobody watching would really do that even though we might have the thought enter our brains at times.
I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth saying again. You should come up with your own cleaning routine. You have evaluated so many cleaning systems, I think you have good insight on what would work best. Something with an “Awkward” touch. 😁 Love your videos.
I know most pans aren't supposed to go in the dishwasher but the truth is if it can't survive the dishwasher it probably won't survive my kitchen 😂 - another robin 😊
Except cast iron. It’s just worth it to clean it properly. Also, stainless steel, it works better to clean it in the sink and buff a little oil on it before put it away.
@justbecause9049 i don't own any regular cast iron. I do hand wash my enameled cast iron but for that reason they don't get used much. My stainless steel goes in the dishwasher. I'm not saying that's the right thing to do, just my reality.
Haha! I wash stainless steel all clad all the time- if there’s enough room that is. And my stainless instant pot inserts also. When I take them out I polish them with Barkeepers otherwise they have heat marks. Teflon should not be in a home lol but if it is no dishwasher. I have some wustoff ceramic pans that do well as well but they are small.
I tried the Motivated Moms routine 15 years ago. Yes. FIFTEEN YEARS ago. That was back in the day when there was a website and you paid $8 to download the whole routine and print it out. The thing that was difficult for me was how it didn't make sense. The tasks felt so random. Sometimes there were tons of them. Sometimes hardly any. I felt like I couldn't plan ahead because would the tasks take me 15 mins or would they take me an hour and a half? I never knew from one day to the next. It was SO overwhelming. FlyLady made so much more sense. I need to get back into FlyLady. When I did it regularly I honestly felt like the house kept itself clean. I mean, it was still me doing it, but it felt effortless over time. Pans do not belong in the dishwasher unless you're really tired and just can't be bothered. Re: emptying the trash every day. That's a hard nope. We barely feel up our kitchen trash to be emptied once a week. Ain't no way I'm emptying it every day if I don't have to. Trash bags are really bloody expensive!
I have a small trashcan in the kitchen that uses 8 gallon trashcan liners. I take out trash if full or Tuesday night if trash pickup is next morning (small town, trash pickup is every other Wednesday). I also have a large fan rake for cleaning up if a bear gets into garbage bin and scatters garbage over my yard and neighbor's yards. Parking my car next to the bins (1 for recycling) works because bears can't knock them over. Some neighbors have steel dumpsters to keep bears out but costs more than 2 bins.
I tried Fly Lady back in the 90’s, I think, loved it but was deluged with so many daily emails that I couldn’t stand it, so I quit. It felt like I was being nagged to death, and that took all the fun out of it. Much as her idea & routines were extremely useful & helpful, and some I still keep, the daily nag sessions killed it. 🤷♀️
@@libbylandscape3560 I agree! The "daily musing" thing drove me bananas. I have the app now, and that really helps. I ignore the daily musing and just head straight to the routines. I love that I can edit the routines in a way that is tailored to me and my home. It helps me stay on track. I'm doing it incorrectly...but I'm still doing it somewhat.
I laughed when you talked about detesting dishes. I'm 63 and have been washing dishes by hand since I could climb a step-stool (my working, single mom made me!). Over the years I came to love and appreciate my quiet time washing dishes (raised three children too). Sure, I've almost always had a dishwasher, but only use it as a drying rack for my lovingly hand-washed dishes, pots and pans. Oh, and I'll only have a home with a picture window over the sink so I can more easily daydream while washing. I may not have started off loving dish washing, but wouldn't trade it now. ❤
Have you seen The Organised Mum? She designed that system specifically for working moon's, but it's a really good system and very adaptable for pretty much any one. I use her method as a base line routine and then tweak my schedule and tasks according to whatever else is going on each week. I also focus on an area of my house instead of just one room for each ckeaning day, except for my Focus day (deep clean day). That day, I focus my alloted time in the room I assigned for that week.
I love how you don't just analyze the cleaning system, you actually *do* it. And you're honest about why something doesn't work for you. Maybe this system needs a timer for the de-cluttering step. You seem to like those! ❤ I never put my pots and pans in the dishwasher. But they end up on the bottom of my priority list to wash😂
a tip my step mother told me about is run the dishwasher directly after dinner and empty it before bed, fill it with the few late night snacking items so then in the morning you don't start your day with having to empty it and all day you fill it instead of putting things in the sink. I will even do a shorter wash cycle to make it finish before bedtime if I have to. Even if you do it most of the time it helps out a lot - day is done kind of thing. Also do the one step rule, while you are cooking or baking etc. put the dirty items as you are done with them directly into the dishwasher not the sink and wash, dry and put away the item if it won't fit in the dishwasher (large mixing bowls, pots, pans, cookie sheets) don't leave them until you are done.....so by the time dinner is done cooking or baking most of the clean up is done. Sometimes you have to run the dishwasher during the day an extra time to keep kitchen sink from being full of dirty dishes and all (the one thing I kept from Fly Lady is keeping the kitchen sink clean (and counters) it is so wonderful to always come into a "tidy" kitchen. Edit - if it fits in the dishwasher it goes into the dishwasher!
I agree with your principle, but for me, I start the dishwasher before bed, and it fits in my morning routine to empty it. It has been one of the most beneficial adulting habits to put dinner cooking kitchenware DIRECTLY into the dishwasher. I do wash nonstick pans by hand, but EVERYTHING else goes in. And NEVER leave the dirty dishes in the washer till tomorrow "because there's still room" ... There will never be enough room for your whole next meals worth of dishes, and once you leave the "leftover" dishes in the sink... You are already in the spiral of never catching up!
@@juliab8992 We are the same, dishwasher on at bedtime then empty it at wakeup. I have timed myself and it only takes me 3 minutes to empty my dishwasher, enough time to make a coffee or microwave some oatmeal for breakfast, hardly a chore even.
I have to run my dishwasher after midnight. It's my one appliance I can delay start. We have very cheap electric after midnight. 4:00pm to 8:00pm is outrageously expensive!
@CLord-gs7nj I do that too (I have also melted too many plastic things on the heat coil, but now I like saving the electricity!) Also, my electric company doesn't give discounts... They just jacked up the rate from 3-7 M-F sooo... Lots of chores are either delay-started or weekends only!
News update! Your house is looking so much nicer in every way! You are becoming neat, organized and clean! It is awesome how your own advice and trials have WORKED!
When my children were little, I did a quick tidy 3 times a day. Doing this often became "quick". Once before lunch, once before I fixed dinner and once before I put the kids to bed. I also think the routine helps structure your day, teach my kids to help and to help them value a clean organized space. Nowadays I visit my children and see them doing the same things with their children. I think doing it with your child is so much better than telling, nagging and even yelling. And yes my lazy never paying attention or helping husband would even keep and do the routine when I wasn't there. And I didn't have to tell, nag or yell at him.😊
Love your videos! Congrats on your new dishwasher. Definitely a game changer. As a highly seasoned dishwasher user…I’m old…I always unload the bottom rack first, so the water from the top rack doesn’t fall onto the dishes below. 💕
Great video! I have a tip for the microwave. Put a cover right inside of it, so then when you use it the cover is right there and your microwave will stay so much cleaner! Love Robyn!
Weimans for the stainless steel! They have wipes or sprays. Works fabulously! Helps repel the fingerprints too. Also pots and pans don't go in the dishwasher here 😬 I think they take up too much valuable space and they're better to wash and dry right away! I'm with you on sheets and laundry. I have way more success with 2 ish laundry days and biweekly sheets 🤷🏼♀️ guess I'm a slob! Thanks for these, they help me gain perspective and ideas on keeping my house!
Of all the cleaning routines you’ve done I have found the one that works for me has the daily tasks at kitchen: tidy, wipe counters, do dishes. Bathrooms: tidy, wipe counters, switch toilet. Floors: vacuum and mop main floors. Then Monday, clean living room and dining room. Tuesday clean bedrooms. Wednesday clean foyer, hall, bathrooms. Thursday clean kitchen. Friday clean family/game room and stairs. Saturday: catch-up day, projects, fun. Sunday: fun and rest. Every room gets a complete and deep clean once a week and I’m not cleaning all day long.
You can damp mop with a spray mop daily, and they will look better, and last longer. You just don't want to use excessive water and floor cleaners daily.
@@blondie7740 yeah I just generally dust mop mine daily, vacuum a few times a week, and damp mop once a week. And they shine! I find the dust mopping is fine for daily maintenance.
This is actually the first cleaning routine that speaks to me! The daily task are similar, but I actually like the random tasks added in because I never really add those in to my routine.
So if you make your own cleaning schedule can someone just put in "*if you have little kids* replenish the nappy/diaper bag and nappy change stations/wipes dispensers " but especially the nappy bag because i will forget every time and be out in the world, somehow remembered the baby, the toddler AND the nappy bag and find myself in a change room with no baby wipes, or no nappies, having to stick it back on to run to a store and buy something. Dont judge me, life's hard with a newborn 🤦♀️🤷♀️
@@laura108 This has happened to me before too! 😂 Once, it was all over his clothes too! Luckily we were at Costco and I was able to buy a quick pair of pajamas to put him in! Every time I use the last one, I think, “Need to replenish that before next time, just in case!” Then, the next time I think, “UGH!!! Why didn’t I remember!?”
@@laura108Put a reminder in phone to remind you during a time if day that works for you, like in morning before breakfast, or in the evening before putting the baby down.
Love to see people try out new cleaning routines! :) I like that she focuses a lot on the kitchen/bathrooms. For most people, these rooms are the most dirty, so it is pretty natural they need frequent cleaning. I found that the daily 'must be done' is kitchen, bathroom and a quick tidy in every room. When you stay on top of it, it is much easier to complete. This routine seems to agree with this.
Cleaning with kids is hard. So if the house is overwhelming we do what we call “Frantic and Freeze” The idea is that they “clean frantically” while music plays. Then when I pause it they freeze, which allows me to give some time to instruct them if need be. After the house gets a face lift I’m more motivated to actually clean things 😅 I know I should do a checklist but we are just living day to day doing what is the biggest headache… but is still love these videos
I made my own weekly list based on all the cleaning routines you've gone over and found what works best for me! I never have enough clothes to wash everyday, it happens about twice a week.
My wife won’t make a list however many times I ask for one. And when I make one and leave it in the kitchen she complains about it. Thank you for this one as it gives me an app!
For your stainless steel, just put some olive oil on a cloth and clean with it. Works wonders! Thanks for the collab with Robyn, made me happy to see you both!
I have a Daily routine hanging on my fridge and every morning I get up, look up what has already been done (my husband gets up a bit earlier) like refill the fresh water can in the fridge, giving our cat fresh water, doing the litterbox (when done on daily basis it's a job that only takes a minute so we have a happy domestic housecat) emptying the dishwasher, you know the little things. Even my eldest son is in the game doing little chores. And when done, all you have to do is place the magnets from the 'to do' to 'done' box. This made it easier for my husband to know what he could do to help. And in the evening, checking if all chores are done, I sweep the magnets back to the 'to do' side for the next day. If I (rarely) forget this, my husband does this very easy chore too. And for me, by the time I get to the list, half of the chores are done, so happy we started this a few years ago.
Your hubby is a great addition to your videos filled with humor. Always laughing and learning a few things but this cleaning system is not for me. Glad you did the review and shared it with us. Thank you.
I hate dishes too. My landlord wont install mine😢But I do have a tip for the top of the fridge: I bought a roll of craft paper/butcher paper that had a lovely design. But you can use plain. Cut the roll to fit the top of the fridge, and tape it on the sides. When they get dirty, ball it up and throw it away!
I loved this! 😍 A trick with smudges on stainless steel is to put just a tad bit of olive oil on a damp rag and then wipe. This has worked great for me!
Dear Ariel! I am having SO MUCH FUN with your videos!!! Thank you ❤ For the stainless steel door you can use half a potato or even only the peel to rub the surface. The starch is a very potent product to achieve shiny steel doors. Have fun 🥰
@@ThatAwkwardMomdo you have Flylady cloths? I'm a cleaning lady and I just wet her cloths and use those. If that didn't work you could just add a drop of Dawn to the cloth
There is something about the starch! I have a DIY recipe that is THE BEST stainless steel cleaner: -1 1/2 cup water -1/4 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka -1/4 cup vinegar -1 TBSP cornstarch -essential oils if you want it to smell nice Seriously works so well!
Using a potato is very interesting and will have to try. Someone posted a natural recipe that sounds great....There is also a physical can product called stainless steel cleaner that I used daily when trying to sell a home and could not do without that and in a pinch when the can was low but need to do it to show the house I found that a very small amount of cooking oil, like vegetable or olive oil worked pretty good as long as the fridge was wiped down first.
For stainless steel, use a microfiber cloth that you wet and squeeze out and follow with a microfiber cloth that is made for glass cleaning. Works great.
I came across your channel by chance, possibly due to The Clutterbug Channel & boy am I glad I did. I find so much inspiration from your videos & things just don;t seem as stressful once you've worked out the kinks & shared your ideas with us. Thank you for this Awesome channel 🥰
Loved this!! My daughter and I giggled together through it. It's not often a grown adult and a 12 year old share the same taste in videos but your channel is it! Congrats on your dishwasher! ❤🎉 P.S. Can't wait for That Awkward Mom's cleaning routine. P.P.S. It would be fun to see you do a modernized version of the Little House on the Prairie weekly plan (very vintage)! Or a slightly less vintage but still retro Sidetracked Home Executives card file system. Bonus, you would love reading their book Sidetracked Home Executives: from Pigpen to Paradise - it's so funny! P.P.P.S. Loved the collab with Robin. Ok, that's enough post scripts! 😅
Try a drop of baby oil on a cloth, ONE DROP ONLY! Take the top off the bottle of baby oil, place your microfiber cloth over the bottle and then do the thing where you turn the bottle over quickly and then back to upright. Recover the bottle - so it doesn't spill - and then use the microfiber cloth to wipe down your cleaned stainless steel. I noticed that you had your rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Fill your spray bottle with tap water and then add ONE SINGLE DROP of dish soap, replace the cap and give it a good shake. Spray your dishwasher door and wipe with a damp cloth, then use baby oil as I suggested above. Save the cloth in a baggie. You will need less and less oil over time because the cloth will have baby oil on it. Why baby oil? Because it will not go rancid. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it works! One bottle of baby oil will last years. I've been using this method for about 25 years and I'm halfway through my second bottle. I love your videos. And I think, in time, you might crack the cleaning routine code and create your own system!
Finally more of these!! Please bring on all the cleaning system reviews!! You've helped motivate me to be a much better homemaker for my family, which has made a huge difference for my family and marriage, thank you ❤
List checking is building a good habit by giving a reward for your efforts. Love it 😍 Another great video that adds fun and virtue to our lives. Thank you! ❤
Stainless steel: I have learned to use Windex. Also, you could use vinegar. Basically treat it like a window. Go with the grain, as best as you can💪👍 Use microfiber cloths on a swiffer to clean big mirrors and windows too👍
We had a similar system in a lab ... daily, weekly, twice monthly and monthly maintenance set up so you walked in, grabbed the stack of cards and just DID IT. Then you refiled the cards into the next time slot they belonged in. It was set up so no day was overloaded with maintenance, and weekends skated with just the daily tasks. Longer interval maintenance had a similar system we tracked separately.
A lady I hired to clean my house once taught me a neat trick for stainless steel - after washing with a cleaner, polish it up with olive oil! I don't do it very often, but holy moly it works great!
I have enjoyed your videos since you started your channel. My son used to do videography so I know how much time you put towards your videos, thank you. You bring joy to my week when I see you have a new video. I am a house keeper. I raised 3 boys (all married) and homeschooled while maintaining a small business. I have tried lots of systems. Keep searching until you find the right combination of tasks that fit your days, lifestyle and needs in the season you’re in. People don’t always think about that. But I truly believe the season we are in dictates how we complete our tasks. As a side note, I use a food grade oil to keep stainless steel looking sharp. Thanks again for all you do ❤
Always enjoy your videos….helpful and relatable. The many tasks involved in keeping up a house while caring for others def gets overwhelming. Thanks for the humor and encouragement! 💕
You can hang your clothes on a clothes drying rack. It might sound weird but it actually works just as good and you could still do a load a day without having a dryer. This summer I lived in Germany so that was my only option and I actually prefer it now in some ways because my clothes lasted longer
I've been doing this for years, and I live in the US (I did spend some of my childhood in Europe though). My husband is very tall (as in special order his clothes tall), so it started as a way to not shrink any of his clothing. But like you, when I saw how much longer his clothing lasted I started doing it for all the clothing. I do have a dryer but it's only used for towels in the winter (I also have an outdoor line for summer) and very occasionally sheets (I have two quite large racks that will fit a queen sheet each, so I use those). I'd hate to have to go back to using a dryer.
You can dry sheets and duvet covers on an airer, folded. Just turn them and refold them the other way once or twice a day. It helps to have a wide airer, so fewer folds. If folded several times, turn and refold them a little more.
You are significantly the most naturally funny You Tuber that I've watched. I think you're charismatic and engaging - I find myself re-watching over and over again! You've also helped me get a better handle on things. I find myself slacking for a few days but then you pick me right back up! So, its not perfect...but I'm trying (modified version of FlyLady). This new one intrigues me...
It really depends upon the type of stainless steel and the finish. Trial and error has taught me three different ones: So on one of my appliances, the Zep works the best. On my other, vinegar and hot water on a microfiber cloth. And for another, straight rubbing alcohol works best. For Zep Stainless Steel Cleaner (amazon). (use a tiny amount - it's oil based, and don't use a microfiber cloth, it will never come out.) If I had to pick one: vinegar and warm or hot water: spray it, leave it, come back and wipe it. For Pots and Pans in the dishwasher: My theory on all cookware, dishes and utensils: "if you can't go in the dishwasher, you can't live in my house."
I have one more system. The Slob Sisters. Theirs is one check list with tasks for each room in the house including the barn, garage, office, etc. Once all of these are written down, each task is transferred to a 3 x 5 card in a recipe box. The system is custom, color coded by area (house, business, personal, etc) based on the colors of cards available to you. While it is a chore to begin, it is good for those who don't do well with lists and includes a Basic Week Plan balancing a personal day with a family work day and play day. Everything to run the house is included in this system. Their books are available in your local library and help you to organize your life.
If you were around 16 or more years ago you’d know that The Slob Sisters were the inspiration for FlyLady. 😊She adapted their system to her lists. It’s funny because I had come up with something similar for myself without knowing about them. Then I investigated FlyLady after seeing various magazine articles about her and switched in 2007.
@njmaryannez Yes, they were her inspiration. They also wrote about kitchen organization and menu planning to last a year as well as personal evaluation and productivity.
I am in the process of making new cards but I am using 4x6 index cards since my eyes aren't getting any younger. I like the original system that has a card for every job. I like moving those cards along instead of grouping tasks together on one card. I am also going to use a calendar, 6 months to each side, so I can circle the date. Then I can see at a glance how regular I am actually getting the jobs done.
@CLord-gs7nj I printed off a number of pages of a calendar from a small planner at the Dollar Store. I am going to use them for frequent jobs to check my progress, so I can see at a glance my 'successes' and 'need to improves'. The rest will be like the original Sidetracked Home Executives book by Pam and Peggy.
i get excited each time i see a new video from you! you have a great way of teaching/getting your point across and you have the best personality. i do like looking at these videos to see if there are things to incorporate in my daily routine. im always looking for things to make my life easier since i have had lung issues all my life and had a lung transplant in 2019 and i find myself struggling to do the basics. thank you for what you do to help breakdown things for me!
Re: Washing the bathtub/shower. When I grew up we washed the tub between bathers. Yes, multiple times in one night! Today, I wash it when I am in there to take a shower (but not when I plan to wash my hair as that routine takes a long time). It means both you and the tub get super clean in one go. Yay! We all love cleanliness!
I have certain chores that I do on the 1st and 15th of the month, and that really helps to get them done, such as cleaning the top of the fridge, cleaning light fixtures, tops of door trims, things that I don't see, but know must be done. Otherwise, it's out of sight, out of mind for me!
You know what is the best motivation for me? Your videos! No joke, I put on your videos and listen to them while i clean. I have found that while listening to music is entertaining, I don't get off task as much when I listen to your videos.
Re: Bathroom mats, I only use those that are like a thicker hand towel. Then I throw those in the wash with the towels. I own a few so I can swap them out in between washes if they need it. I hang them over the side of the tub between uses so they dry out.
I don't fill a washing mashine every day. I use the "daily laundry" more as a "Is there anything laundry related to do?" - take the laundry from the drying rack and put away - collect dirty laundry in the living room and put it in the basket etc.
Thanks for making this video. I like being able to see the different cleaning routines and honest opinions of them without having to download an app or pay a fee to just them out. Keep up the great work!
I really enjoy your videos. They make me laugh and think. After trying a lot of different cleaning routines, I’ve developed my own that works for me. It incorporates daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual tasks. It also includes outside tasks, like fertilizing plants, sweeping the garage, and cleaning patio furniture, which most of the others ignore.
As a quick microwave cleaning tip, I've put a damp towel in the microwave for about 1 min. It loosens all the food splatter, making it so easy to wipe down! Just be careful when taking the towel out! 😮
For stainless steel I use Midwest Magic's APC(a cleaning youtube channel on here that helps clean houses for free!). It's rubbing alcohol, but also water and dawn dish soap. 2/3 full of 91% isopropyl alcohol (i still use 70% in a pinch and just add less water) about half a teaspoon of dawn dish soap, and fill the rest of a spray bottle with water. With a microfiber cloth it works wonders on glass and stainless steel! I feel like the dawn helps cut through the greasiness of human hand prints.
Wiping down/out the microwave, kitchen counters, and refrigerator are all part of doing the dishes for me. I find doing it daily keeps it from getting difficult to clean. I now realize I need to add scrub the sink to that list.
Love your videos, you always make me chuckle. I have a one year old who isn’t walking yet…and I work overnight so I’m very tired and unmotivated during the day so cleaning anything other than myself and my daughter is a struggle 😫
On the topic of daily laundry, I live in Australia and we like to hang our laundry outside to dry. So the laundry waits for a good drying day or if its been raining too much! it may go in the dryer after hanging around the house for a few hours. We just don't like using electricity to dry our clothes on a regular basis. I understand that if you live in a climate with snow then you don't have much choice. BTW we do have snow in the mountains in my state of Victoria. I really look forward to watching your videos. I am happily retired and love your sense of humour.🥰
Yay for you getting a dishwasher!!! And honestly, for me EVERYTHING goes in the dishwasher. Pots, pans, dishes, wooden utensils, etc. The only reason I sometimes don't put pots and pans is if I have enough other dishes to fill it. I'm alone so even with pots and pans it takes two to three days to fill the dishwasher but if I have friends over for dinner I might have a pan or two that don't fit. Those I'll wash by hand. Would my wooden spoon etc last longer if I washed them by hand? Sure, but honestly, I can afford new wooden spoons every 3-4 years! Only one exception, a very expensive chef's knife I got as a gift years ago. That one gets a wipe with soapy water, dried with a towel and put back in its protective case each time I use it. Takes 45 seconds.
I only do laundry twice a week and occasionally 3. I mostly wear black clothes and wash my colours in with them and wash on 30c. If my husband wears white I just throw him out lol. If you want to make shower/bath cleaning easier I recommend dish soap and dish brush. Super easy! You can get stainless steel cloths that help.
Regarding cleaning stainless appliances: first get them clean in any way you want (clean off food, chunks, drips, etc) - I’ve found baby wipes are easy. Then take a few *drops* of olive oil and shine the surface. Use just enough to make them shine. Sounds gross, but trust me, it’s amazing. Your appliances look brand new!
One of your previous videos suggested one day a week for laundry and I think you said worked well for you. It has worked for me for 52 years😊. I think everybody’s favorite part of this video was throwing the list at your hubby😂
We live in a humid place and a lot of our laundry is dirty from young child pee/poop/wet food and also athlete sweat - it would mildew or develop ammonia if I left it a week. How do you prevent mildew or stains setting in?
I’ve soaked some of mine when they’ve gotten bad after being sick for months & could barely get out of bed, in 70% isopropyl alcohol, bagged it in a plastic bag & let it soak for up to several days. You might lose some pigment if the article is black or red because those colors are often over dyed, and the dye would normally come out anyway in the wash. If after soaking it still smells bad & you really want to save it, pour some vinegar in & let it soak it some. Don’t do this to leather. If you know the item is lost anyway, you might want to take the chance of saving it before tossing it. It’s worked for me on countless items of clothes…..but do at your own risk.
Now that you have deep dive into the cleaning routines, I know you can create one that’ll fit most comfortably to the average housewife. Because let’s face it! is hard to follow a routine to the T. Life every day is full of surprises. I still can’t find a cleaning plan that makes sense to me…so I know that the one you’ll come up with will make sense. Can’t wait for your method to a clean house.
I think this is what I need! 😮 Clear checklist with what to do everyday from an external source is great for people like me…with Adhd. I’m going to give it a try…Also, can’t wait to have a dishwasher myself! I also do daily laundry already…it works for me. And my machine is really small :(
Still laughing out loud here by myself - tears running from my eyes - from that first throw of the Task List at your husband's head!!! LoL!!! It just struck me so so so funny!! Obviously, that was an "we can all relate" point... And I don't even have a husband.... - Thank you - I needed that!!
Yeah that was cute! 😅 Shortly after my wedding to my now ex back in the late-70’s, I suggested we make a list to separate tasks. He was still in grad school & I was working full time. Talk about the quick reject, he was aghast at the suggestion! Should have known what the future 30+ years would be…..😂
For SO many years I didn’t have a dishwasher, then we rented a place that had one but it wasn’t very good and I ended up hand washing anyway. Fast forward nearly 30 years…got a job, made a career and one of the first things I did was buy a top of the line Bosch with a pot/pan mode and a knife trey. Life changer! Your videos are always entertaining and thought provoking!
I do something a lot like this and I use Google calendar to keep track of my tasks. I started out with basic daily tasks, and then added weekly tasks. As I run across things, I think to myself, how often do I want this done and what days? Such as dusting ceiling fans. I decided once every 3 months and I put it on a Wednesday using the "repeat every 3 months" option. Cobweb patrol is another, once every month. What is nice is you can set up a separate calendar ("Housework") in Google calendar just for these tasks (so you don't clutter your main calendar) and set it up to send you an email every day with that days list. It take all the "I should be doing so and so" out of my mind. If is something I want to defer, and is a task that is frequent, if I miss it, I don't beat myself up about it because I know it will come up soon again.
I love the change the towels bit. I knew a lady who had 2 towels in her bathroom and kitchen. One was hers the other was guests and that was changed every day. She used to be a nurse in infectious disease.
Non stick pans a no no for dishwasher, however, if you use a decent dishwasher tablet there's no need to rinse the dishes, the tablet needs something to cling on too! I have always had a dishwasher for 20years plus xx
Love your videos! You’re so funny! I wouldn’t put non-stick pans in the dishwasher, but stainless steel can. And they make spray cleaner for stainless steel appliances that work really well! 😊
I saw a video cleaning stainless steel with rubbing alcohol and then olive oil otlr baby oil. Also never use round circular motions but go straight back and forth.
I love your videos! The notepad hitting your husband’s head was hilarious (I hope it only took one take 😂). My previous stainless steel fridge would only come clean with the smelly stainless steel cleaner, I had tried all the other tricks too. There must be different “stainless steels” because all my current ones wipe clean easily.
Really great video! [I'm in favor of pots in the dishwasher but I never have room and once I scour one it's 2/3 done so handwash.] I built my own system with dailies; day of the week chores with A,B,C priorities; and once a month tasks. Friday tasks rotate for bathmats and such. I'm glad you had such a good experience with The Motivated Mom. When my kids were young daily laundry was wonderful but nobody tells retired people to do laundry more than 1x week. You're just ahead of the curve. Such a fun video! Thanks, Ariel!
I don't have a washing machine so I do laundry by hand. no way I'm washing sheets every week. I wash pillow cases every week and sheets every other week, sometimes every 3rd week.
I really appreciate this video. I was shocked by the sheets. I probably would change the pillow cases weekly. Those are easy to change and wash. My husband’s family would flip the sheets. I never did it. But, it definitely saved laundry especially with 4 kids.
Don't forget to watch Robyn's experience next!

Love your show!
❤❤❤
My tip for making stainless steel appliances look nice is a little orange glo on a dry cloth. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it works! Even a different oil such as coconut would probably work just as well. Thank you for sharing your awesome personality with us!
Using vegetable oil on the stainless steel appliances works well for me. Just apply it on a paper towel, rub it on the appliance, then buff it out a little with a fresh paper towel.
love the new bedroom it is sooo beautiful 💕💕. i love your show you are funnyy
LOVE that you talked about having a black thumb and not liking plants with a healthy plant right behind you 😂😂😂😂 also i wash my sheets every two weeks too. It's just more practical. The peace it brings our lives is worth the dust mites 😂😂😂
I love throwing the list at your husband's head. I laughed each time you inserted that. We all wish that worked.

Yep 😂
I was thinking the same thing. Hahaha!
I know, right?!
I need the dead ass tired mom cleaning system
As a dad, I have to make my own list and throw it at my own head! 😂
Ha Ha!
Hahaha that's fantastic!!
My husband is the same, lol
We'd all condone throwing it at your kid's . . . ;)
😂😂😂
I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s worth saying again. You should come up with your own cleaning routine. You have evaluated so many cleaning systems, I think you have good insight on what would work best. Something with an “Awkward” touch. 😁 Love your videos.
I'm working on it 😁
Yes that would be awesome!!
@@ThatAwkwardMomYay!!!! I’m so happy to hear this and so excited to see it!
I agree
That’s what I was going to say!
Same!
@@longgone2023Do you know what types of pans can go in the dishwasher?
Girl, I literally laughed so loud my dog jumped! Sorry Mr Awkward, that hit upside the head was funny!!!
Me too I have sniffles right now and laughed too hard a need a tissue 🤧
I love Flylady!
Emptying the dishwasher is the thing I detest completely. I’m better at hand washing. Go figure!
While washing dishes, I also watch/listen to my RUclips channels like these! Keeps my mind busy and I have company.
I'd love to see a cleaning routine designed for people who work full time
Have you seen The Organised Mum? She designed that system specifically for working moon's, but it's a really good system and very adaptable for pretty much any one. I use her method as a base line routine and then tweak my schedule and tasks according to whatever else is going on each week. I also focus on an area of my house instead of just one room for each ckeaning day, except for my Focus day (deep clean day). That day, I focus my alloted time in the room I assigned for that week.
Especially for those of us who are shift workers.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 GOOD ONE!!!!
I love how you don't just analyze the cleaning system, you actually *do* it. And you're honest about why something doesn't work for you. Maybe this system needs a timer for the de-cluttering step. You seem to like those! ❤
I never put my pots and pans in the dishwasher.
@@juliab8992same!
@CLord-gs7nj I do that too (I have also melted too many plastic things on the heat coil, but now I like saving the electricity!)
Also, my electric company doesn't give discounts...
Exactly!!
I always appreciate you trying these different methods! The clips of Robyn with your commentary were hilarious! 💖
Your husband is such a good sport, and thank you for repeating the tablet to his forehead at the end. 😂😂
Great video! I have a tip for the microwave. Put a cover right inside of it, so then when you use it the cover is right there and your microwave will stay so much cleaner! Love Robyn!

Yes, I was thinking that, too - you hair is fantastic! Also love you sense of humour!
This was the best cleaner i have bought in years!
I just have a question, sorry. So you are mopping all your main floors every day? Mine are hardwood. They'd not survive that long!
When that notepad hit his head… I spit my coffee everywhere! Aaaahhahahaaaa!
(He’s such a good sport, I can’t even take it.) you guys are so funny.
So if the house is overwhelming we do what we call “Frantic and Freeze”
The idea is that they “clean frantically” while music plays. Then when I pause it they freeze, which allows me to give some time to instruct them if need be.
After the house gets a face lift I’m more motivated to actually clean things 😅
I know I should do a checklist but we are just living day to day doing what is the biggest headache… but is still love these videos
I made my own weekly list based on all the cleaning routines you've gone over and found what works best for me! I never have enough clothes to wash everyday, it happens about twice a week.
Please could you share it with us
My wife won’t make a list however many times I ask for one. And when I make one and leave it in the kitchen she complains about it. Thank you for this one as it gives me an app!
For your stainless steel, just put some olive oil on a cloth and clean with it. Works wonders! Thanks for the collab with Robyn, made me happy to see you both!
Was looking for this comment. Some drops of oil (coconut is my favourite) and stainless steel appliances are spotless ❤
Olive oil goes rancid where coconut oil doesn’t. 💕
Clever! I use paper towel for the tops of my kitchen cabinets (they aren't very deep), but never thought to do the top of the fridge!
I use old newspaper (yes, we still read a paper newspaper 😅 and put that on the tops of the cabinets.
I use wax paper.
I loved this! 😍 A trick with smudges on stainless steel is to put just a tad bit of olive oil on a damp rag and then wipe. This has worked great for me!

Dear Ariel! I am having SO MUCH FUN with your videos!!! Thank you ❤
For the stainless steel door you can use half a potato or even only the peel to rub the surface. The starch is a very potent product to achieve shiny steel doors. Have fun 🥰
Whaaaaa? That's crazy!!! Never heard of such a thing. I'll have to try it!
@@ThatAwkwardMom let me how it works I will tell my cleaning lady friends next door
@@ThatAwkwardMomdo you have Flylady cloths? I'm a cleaning lady and I just wet her cloths and use those. If that didn't work you could just add a drop of Dawn to the cloth
There is something about the starch! I have a DIY recipe that is THE BEST stainless steel cleaner:
-1 1/2 cup water
-1/4 cup rubbing alcohol or vodka
-1/4 cup vinegar
-1 TBSP cornstarch
-essential oils if you want it to smell nice
Seriously works so well!
I just use any microfibre cloth and a vinegar/water mix (like cleaning glass). Seems to work!
And go with the grain wile wiping…and wipe with a microfiber cloth until there is no more dampness

Ooh now I feel like getting my laminator out and making like a whole setup with checklists. Might be better than an app.
A lady I hired to clean my house once taught me a neat trick for stainless steel - after washing with a cleaner, polish it up with olive oil! I don't do it very often, but holy moly it works great!
I have ADHD and have always struggled with keeping a tidy house so this may really help without overwhelming me. Thank you!
I loved 30 cats fresh on catnip ran thru with a sprinkler! Farm house family here and THIS IS TRUE!!

Today, I wash it when I am in there to take a shower (but not when I plan to wash my hair as that routine takes a long time). It means both you and the tub get super clean in one go. Yay! We all love cleanliness!
I don't like to clean the shower after I am clean...it makes me feel dirty. I will, however, squeegee the walls and door.
Ariel you are simply authentic! Lovely sense of humor!
Great skit with Robyn. Lots of fun.
You pushing the blocks with the vacuum is the most relatable thing I have seen on a cleaning video 😂
Ah yes, the patio furniture. Takes me a week every spring. Then wash the cushions and rainproof them.
Hi Ariel, for the stainless steel door you can use a very small drop of oil on a microfiber cloth, it makes the steel really shining!
And attract dust quickly ;-)
nope @@annarborthenorris5455
As a quick microwave cleaning tip, I've put a damp towel in the microwave for about 1 min. It loosens all the food splatter, making it so easy to wipe down! Just be careful when taking the towel out! 😮
Dying laughing at the pregnancy pillow bit! Recovering from covid so it turned into a coughing fit, but worth it!
@@anthropomorphisis thank you for this tip!
I loved your microwave mom comment! I am right there with her when I open my daughter’s microwave!
Congratulations on getting a dishwasher, you owned it! 🙏
You are SO much fun! Even if I didn’t care about the content of the video, it’s like a comedy bit!
And my machine is really small :(
I love the spliced in bits with Robyn. What a nice touch.
Shortly after my wedding to my now ex back in the late-70’s, I suggested we make a list to separate tasks.
Your husband is such a great sport!😂
I’ve always been told pots and pans don’t go in the dishwasher but I’m a rebel. 😎
Ariel, have you tried the Sidetracked Home Executives routine?? I’d love to see it side by side vs fly lady. Pros and cons etc. love your work.
This is my system exactly.
When cleaning the kitchen wipe down counter first ,working from outer edges toward sink then clean sink

I love the change the towels bit. I knew a lady who had 2 towels in her bathroom and kitchen. One was hers the other was guests and that was changed every day. She used to be a nurse in infectious disease.
To the people who strip beds every week, I was raised to do it bi-weekly. My mother always stripped every bed every other week and washed them.
Yup...but I still do the pillowcases weekly.
@@rebeccatrono3376 that's a great idea
I love the smell of fresh sheets, I do weekly ❤❤
always have a floor mat in front and behind of the door that goes outside - save yourself a lot of work in keeping your floors clean
Thank you! I am feeling really stressed today and I laughed so hard after "Here you Go!" *Smack* 😂😂😂😂 Infeel mich more relaxed know, thank you 😂😂😂
Non stick pans a no no for dishwasher, however, if you use a decent dishwasher tablet there's no need to rinse the dishes, the tablet needs something to cling on too! I have always had a dishwasher for 20years plus xx
Love your videos! You’re so funny!
I wouldn’t put non-stick pans in the dishwasher, but stainless steel can. And they make spray cleaner for stainless steel appliances that work really well! 😊
A load of laundry a day has been a life saver for me. I like the routine and the sit-down time I get to fold without folding 3 loads at once.
I go with white, so much easier to clean.
Hi Dorothy🌹🌹
How are you doing?
I don't have a washing machine so I do laundry by hand. no way I'm washing sheets every week. I wash pillow cases every week and sheets every other week, sometimes every 3rd week.
I really appreciate this video. I was shocked by the sheets. I probably would change the pillow cases weekly. Those are easy to change and wash.
My husband’s family would flip the sheets. I never did it. But, it definitely saved laundry especially with 4 kids.
love it!!! "Here you go" smack 😂😂😂
The best part of the whole video for sure 😂😂😂
Agreed!! 😂😂
